The main processing room of the Pokemon Center was little challenge once Beau actually arrived, and it didn't take long at all before he emerged from the wrecked door of the building, toting a heavy case with Torben carrying two more behind him.

He caught sight of Jack walking back up the road from what looked like a good time and greeted the man with a proud lift of his chin, indicating the case in his hand.

"Job's done," he quipped callously. "Time to beat it, Boss is out."

And like that, he's striding down the street, his Grunts filing out of the Pokemon Center with their own loot. Notably, those who were trapped inside the building do not follow.

"Yeah, alright," Beau affirms with a nod of his head that he feels is particularly positive despite his misgivings - not about the company, but about the content. Klaus's presence on the couch is at least somewhat comforting as the title flashes across the large TV.

Starting off, the movie isn't too bad, and Beau finds himself relaxing, nearly forgetting to be on edge for the trauma that will surely ensue with a title like that. It's two guys talking, he can handle that.

He sneaks a glance at Klaus without turning his head, swallowing. Can he handle that?

The camera on-screen zooms in to the opening of a dark bedroom, and from the shadows lurches a pus-infested, bloody creature that lunges straight for the viewer. Beau lets out a very manly high-pitched yelp and flails, grabbing Klaus instinctively and burying his face in the other man's shoulder.

Beau's attention was so focused on the pitiful sight of the spectral Skitty before him that he barely heard Beau-the-Tauros forcibly turn Eddie's attention to another portion of the platform. Reaching out experimentally, he extended a single finger and gave the kitten a stroke between its ears.

It was cold, like ice, but the Skitty seemed to appreciate the gesture nonetheless, pausing long enough to uncurl itself and stretch toward Beau with a high-pitched whine. Frowning, and not exactly sure how this would work, he crouched to cradle the small spectral pokemon in his arms and stood. It felt a bit like holding a chilly draft, if it stayed in one place, but miraculously the Skitty came with him when he stood, and he reflected that this might be one of the more amazing things he'd encountered.

The commotion over by Eddie caused him to turn, and his eyes widened considerably as he took in the sight of Eddie helping an equally translucent old man to keep him from falling over. A stray thought flitted through Beau's head - he wondered how that would work, would the man fall through the platform and keep going down? How were he and the Skitty standing on firm ground anyway?

He shook his head, shaking the thought loose. He wasn't about to get caught in that particular paradox.

The Skitty in his arms immediately began mewling louder as it caught sight of the ghostly man, and Beau yelped as the air around the spirit turned cold enough to cause frostbite. He crouched to let the creature down, and it immediately scampered toward Eddie and the man, calling out happily.

"Uh, brah?" he called out to Eddie, "I think they know each other."

"No, totally," Beau agrees. "The sea is the best, know what I mean? It's people that mess it up." He sighs. "Me an' jack wainwright had to go deal with a stranded ship a couple'a weeks ago just to keep it from leaking Arceus knows what into the water, an' if I had a nickel for every piece of trash I had t'skim out of the ocean I could probably retire, like, twice."

"Say, uh," he hedges, glancing at the other man with a curious slant. "You seen any of these crazy chain things that've been poppin' up like weeds? Any idea what that's about?" He scratches his head absently, brow furrowed. "I've seen some o'the reports, an' written some, even, but nobody seems t'know what's goin' on with that."

"Easy, easy!" Beau soothed, attempting to keep a Slugma at bay with his foot while he kept an old woman from tipping over in her dizziness. Nearby, his Gallade approached, emitting a soothing HEAL PULSE that enveloped the woman and caused the toxic chain around her head to crumble.

Heaving a sigh of relief, Beau couldn't help but notice that the Heal Pulse was having a beneficial effect on him, too - calming the upset his stomach seemed to go through any time he got near one of these strange occurrences lately. At least it was a small reprieve before trying to help the next townsperson.

He smelled burning leather, then cursed, snatching his foot away and hopping up and down on his undamaged foot.

He'd forgotten the Slugma.

Beau knew he was rarely the sharpest knife in a given drawer, but he felt pretty proud of how he was handling this outbreak.

Numerous Tinkaton, all with those crazy chains attached to them, were smashing everything in sight that wasn't a Tinkaton with their enormous hammers. Soooo...he brought a Tinkaton out, and things seemed to be going his way!

The Tinkaton chirped happily as she meandered among her rampaging kin, waiting until she had their trust (he assumed) before unleashing a vicious GIGATON HAMMER that sent the poor little things flying. At least they'd be doing less damage out of the thick of things. He turned away from the melee as his pokemon continued her devious mission, tapping out a message with his thumbs as he added to a report that was already increasingly lengthier than what he would normally prefer.

Crouching to adjust his Kubfu's form, Beau urges the little ursine forward. With a cry, the tiny bear leaps into the air and performs a flying BRICK BREAK that shatters the statue of the stout dog-looking pokemon in front of them.

"Great job!" he enthuses, staring over the area with a skeptical eye. "Let's see if you can get the next one into smaller pieces."

The Kubfu cheers happily, tottering over next to the statue of a bird. Slender legs, easier pickings, surely. At least, that was Beau's thought, his stomach once again churning from proximity to the Toxic Chains.

"Nah, brah, not having it he-hurrrrrrk," Beau offered in consternation, ending in a body-wrenching retch as he doubled over and gagged. He'd been on his way through Rustboro to the Dewford ferry, and the sudden outbreak of Bug-types had caught him (and everyone else in the city) by surprise.

He'd called out Nemo reflexively, ready to do his part in herding the pokemon back to something resembling their normal habitat, but the proximity of Dustox and the ensuing pollen being scattered with every wingbeat had rendered his already-fragile constitution from the repeated poison excursions a shivering wreck.

So it was that instead of boldly commanding his trusty companion to repel the insects, he couldn't even look up from his position on the ground, instead raising an arm and waving it half-heartedly at Nemo, urging him on. The Swampert looked at Beau for a long moment before engaging in something resembling a shrug and launching a ROCK SLIDE at the fringe of the swarm, driving many back and causing one Dustox in particular to fall to the ground.

Struggling to his knees, Beau eyed the thing blearily and threw a pokeball at it. Paltry revenge for the way he was currently feeling, but he'd take it.

Disgusting, was the only thought that Beau could muster in the current melee. Ahab, his Poliwrath, thumped itself with a boosting BELLY DRUM before launching at the nearest serpent with a series of punches that battered it silly.

Beau felt a shadow fall across him and turned to see one of the enormous Arboks raised over him, jaws open impossibly wide. Before he could duck back away from the creature, Ahab blasted it with a HYDRO PUMP that knocked it into a nearby building. Dizzy from adrenaline, Beau placed a hand on his chest and felt his heart racing.

This was happening more and more with every outbreak he was called to, and he knew that the weird chains on these pokemon were somehow twisting them beyond their normal abilities and behaviors. But...what was causing it?
