her reference brings an amused smile to his face along with a snort of a chuckle, but he's not nearly witty enough to come up with a response to that in time so that's all he does.[break][break]

as his mouth opens again, the words never come out as he feels a tug on his jacket. like a leashed poochyena, he follows, trailing after her before eventually catching up to her side.[break][break]

Island Hopping [DW]

as they approach the island, the other person comes into sight. to be polite, james offers them a small wave as they hit the shore, his arctozolt laying flat across the sand immediately to recover from their long swim.[break][break]

"i hope you don't mind the company. just taking a breather, won't be too long."[break][break]

he pays them not much attention beyond that, keeping to himself as he watches a tirtouga swim by.[break][break]

inspired by FERNANDO SILPH's glalie, james takes an active interest at the sight of a wild one. he whistles, pointing over to the ice-type to the right. type: null handles the rest, catching it off guard with its IRON HEAD that stills it into a pokeball.[break][break]

while not a big fan of the ocean in general despite having grown up in ever grande, a city so close to the ocean, he finds himself island hopping today but only because he has to due to work.[break][break]

his arctozolt is defensive at first but concedes, slowing down as they approach a small island that appears to be inhabited. at least temporarily.[break][break]

as they begin to map out more of the rift, they happen to stumble across what appears to be an old megalopolan spacecraft, one james recognizes as it looks similar to the one they had flown together with wolfgang volkov.[break][break]

approaching it, he takes a moment to examine it for parts, eventually finding saved recordings.[break][break]

"there are a few recordings saved in here..."[break][break]

20 excavate or stumble upon an old megalopolan spacecraft or dead celesteela in a crater that has been buried deep underground; in the process, encounter evidence that only ultra beasts used to live here.

it's with curiosity that james watches the crabominable's approach. it seems consistent with the expected nature of the species but it does appear to be heightened. he looks away in time to throw a pokeball at the ferrothorn before it has a chance to EXPLODE.[break][break]

he walks over and picks it up, then looks back at his friend. his breath forms a soft cloud that rolls over his winter jacket, making him seem far cooler than he actually is.[break][break]

"do we know why they're getting more aggressive? more restless?"[break][break]
