The little girl upon Gerald’s shoulders finally got her fill with the fancy music and sensory stimuli. It was time to move on. Alas, maybe it was too late. As something flew by. Wait is that an egg? The egg was glowing. His eyes opened wide, and he began to run as quickly as he could in the crowd, a second or two later he heard the loud sound of an Egg Bomb, explosion. He felt how its content splattered out into the air hitting him and probably some others.

“Are you okay?” He asked his little sister, once they got far enough away from the eggstatic-terrorist.

She nodded. “Yes. Almost didn’t get hit!” She spoke quietly. She was too high on the stimulus of the concert to think about the bruise she was probably about to get. “Why and who did that?” She asked.

“Don’t know. But I suppose they didn’t like the crowd?” Gerald replied, though it sounded more like a question than a fact. Either way, they would both be heading out to see the rest of what this festival had to offer.

Gerald figured it would be someone like that. “Rocket, huh.” He spoke. Seizing the man once more, as if this was the first time he did so. Rocket meant trouble if he wasn’t careful. His eyes wandered for a brief second, trying to spot the goons that would surely be following this person

The person hadn’t given him a name yet. Which, while not weird, didn’t give him reasons to trust him, not even when he offered a handkerchief. Gerald didn’t take the offer, his hand didn’t move from its proximity to his Pokéballs. “Let’s cut the crap, you aren’t concerned about my appearance.” Though he might’ve been concerned with the broken skin upon his chin from that one good punch his shit-head of a ‘step’-father had thrown.

“What is it you want and how much will it cost me?” He had neither the time nor the patience for pleasantries, and his body language declared this loudly, he was almost tripping to get moving. He had to move on if he wanted to avoid getting found by the local law enforcement.

Gerald accepted the helping hand to get out of the water. He even began to listen to her lecture on the biology of Seadra. Just as the Pokémon in question returned with a now filled Pokéball.

“Well, that’s good to know. Thanks.” Also duly noted that Seadra hadn’t informed him of this on its own, so he had probably been in danger a fair amount of times unless it was something they could control. Anyhow, his thoughts were cut short by a wailing Sobble who surfaced from the depts, annoyed by the prospect of its Wingull pray being stolen by the evil Aggron.

A loud sigh escaped him. He was too wet and cold to deal with this. Oh, how he dreamed of a Pokémon with a ‘Flame body’ or even ‘Magma Armor’ nice and warm, such Pokémon would be. Alas, he was caught here, in reality with an annoyed Sobble.

“Well, Seadra you handled that Noctowl well. Could you maybe handle this one too?” He asked the Water Pokémon. It nodded in agreement and immediately began to shoot Bubble Beams after the Sobble. It tried to dissuade the attack with a Tearful Look. But it didn’t seem to work on the Seadra. Instead, Seadra was agitated enough that the Sea Horse Pokémon charged over there, grab it by the tail, and just spray Bubble Beams point-blank until the Sobble went quiet.

By then Gerald couldn’t see if the Pokémon was dead or unconscious. Fearing the first, he quickly threw a Pokéball towards it, hitting it bonk in the head, and sucking it in. The Seadra caught the Pokéball in its tail and waited moment of capture or escape.

Gerald sighed. “I suppose.” He replied in defeat. To him it seemed more like the Seadra was trying to assert some sort of weird dominance over the two of them. But he had to admit his understanding of Seadra behavior was sorely lacking.

Alas, he didn’t get much time to ask about it as something pulled the woman’s attention away. A small skirmish was had between her and a Binacle. In the commotion an opportunistic Noctowl thought that a Seadra would make for a good meal. Let’s not question its thinking. It swooped in and grabbed a hold of the Seadra whom had been enjoying the spectacle.

The Seadra began to trash about to no effect. “Hey, leave my Seadra alone!” Gerald charged out into the sea, jumping in the effort to catch the Noctowl as it was rising. But all it afforded him was just a bath in the colder seawater. The Noctowl was quick to rise higher and higher. But forgot one little thing, which the Seadra realized quickly enough. At this range it couldn’t dodge Bubble Beams. And so the Seadra unleashed a continuous stream of painful bubbles upon the bird until it hit one of the wings just right and they both dropped back into the sea.

Gerald, having just fought his way out of the water again, noticed this and quickly retrieved an empty Pokéball throwing it towards the Noctowl before it would sink beneath the waves. And as he stood there waiting for the result of the capture, he allowed his hand to run through his now wet hair, cursing his luck in the process.

Gerald hadn’t imagined that he would be traveling so much as a member of the Rocket. But here he was in Petalburg, or rather on the beach west of Petalburg. Luckily he had found someone trustworthy to look after his little sister while he was off doing stuff.

Now being on the beach wasn’t exactly Rocket related, rather he was here because he had nothing better to do during his downtime. So he figured looking at the sea and maybe catching a Pokémon or two would be nice. It also allowed him to bond with one of his newest catches. It seemed he wasn’t the only one having a similar idea, as he spotted a girl in a purple dragon-like onesie and a Kabuto nearby.

He threw the Pokéball into the air. It popped open manifesting the Pokémon out into the sea before the Pokéball fall back into his hand. The Seadra looked around, then immediately swam off in a fit of the zoomies in the direction of the kabuto-trainer. “Hey, where are you going?” Gerald exclaimed. Though as he spoke the Pokémon turned around sharply splashing water everywhere, even a good bit onto the beach. It then turned around and charged toward him, pulling off the same stunt.

Gerald barely dodged the splash. Leaving his black hoodie and ripped black jeans somewhat dry. “If you are going to be like that, I am going to put you in the Pokéball again." Gerald threatened, quickly followed by a sigh. He didn't want to be angry already.

Being a single parent was hard. Gerald had found himself in a constant state of fatigue, though whether that was from ‘work’ or trying to heal the wounded soul of his little sister was still up to debate. Either way, it didn’t matter, fatigue was not going to stop him from having a good time and hopefully bring some cheer to the little girl.

That’s why they had made their way to Lilycove City. The annual spring discounts had begun, and Gerald had stumbled upon some spending money which he figured would be better used upon her. They had just exited the Lilycove Department Store when the sound of a Wailord voice rang through the streets.

“Big bro, was that a…” The girl couldn’t quite remember the name of the big blue whale. But, Gerald knew what she was asking about.

“I think it was. Let’s go check it out?” He tried to sound excited, and for a brief second, it seemed like the girl was too. They both hurried towards the sound, Gerald with one hand firmly clenching the Lilycove Department Store branded plastic bag, the other tightly holding his little sister’s hand. When they reached the place of the commotion the musician was greeting all of them, just as the music began.

“Wooooah!” His sister looked in amazement at the display, clearly filled to the brim with wonder at what she was seeing. But the crowd was growing tighter, adults began to block the view of the little girl. She fought valiantly to continue gazing, but soon her view was obstructed. Gerald saw the look of defeat in her eyes and decided he had to do something.

Without further ado, he grabbed her and slung her up on his shoulders. A mix of surprise, and fear, but then excitement washed over her face as she now was fully capable of taking in the view and listening to the music. A smile crept over Gerald’s face. It was nice finally seeing her happy. “It’s good huh? Lucky that we decided to come here today.” He commented. Though he didn’t expect her to reply.

And she wouldn’t reply. The girl had already drowned in excitement. Joyful squeals of “YAY!” And “COOOOOOOL!” escaped her from time to time. Until at last, she exclaimed, “I WANT TO BE JUST LIKE HER!” as she waved towards the trainer on top of the Wailord, hoping she would notice.

“Well, I am sure you will be just like that when you become an adult” Gerald replied. He couldn’t help but feel a tightening in his throat, not out of sadness, but rather joy.

Gerald stood broodingly in the dim light of the Alleyway. Hood pulled way up over the back of his head, mask placed neatly on the front of his face hiding his identity. And a pair of torn black jeans just to finish off the thug look.

He was looking out upon the busier street which the alleyway lead into. His eyes gazed like a predator upon all the pedestrians trying to spot his target in the process, though the mixing lights of the sun setting and the street lamps turning on were making this a bit difficult. The few people who accidentally met his gaze quickly looked down and moved along. It was only natural, nobody wanted any trouble, but the trouble was always looking to find its next victim. Just like Gerald right now.

He had been given a mission. For the services Team Rocket provided him with, he had to return the favor. And that was what he was doing right now. To be honest, he didn’t much care for old or new Rocket. But those at the top did, and so he was given the task of dealing with a ‘troublesome connection to the past.’

To be honest, he still wasn’t sure how he would go about it. He wasn’t even sure if there were anyone else on the case, but he would have to figure those details out as he went along. Either way, he was prepared, or so he thought as he clutched the knife in his right pocket and the Pokéballs in his left pocket.

As they stood there in the area. The local wildlife slowly became used to them. With each minute that passed, more and more Pokémon gathered around. Some flew high in the air, and others swam boldly in the seas. Gerald looked around, but then at his sister. She didn’t seem excited at all she didn’t seem to react. I suppose it isn’t enough. The thought pained him, but he knew that it was only natural for this to be the case.

“Alright.” He said. A sigh escaped his lips. This sudden sound made the little girl jolt as if caught in her mind and now she was finally free. “I want you to pick whichever Pokémon you see, but only one. And I will catch it.” Gerald promised.

The girl looked thoughtful for a whole minute, while she finally actively looked at all the different ones gathered around them. But then she pointed at one out in the sea. It was an angry-looking Seadra, swimming about as quickly as it could.

“Are you sure?” Gerald asked. She didn’t say a word, instead, she nodded with a certain amount of certainty. “Very well then.” He fetched a Pokéball, and out of it burst his Tropius. “Do you see that Seadra out there?” The Tropius nodded. “I want you to grab it and get it onto land so I can catch it,” Gerald explained. The Tropius nodded and with a few flaps of its leafy wings, it flew off.

Now, all they could do was watch as a battle ensued. The Seadra not keen on fleeing began to battle the flying banana monster. Though, it fought valiantly with Laser-Focused Bubble Beams. In the end, it was no match for the height advantaged flying Pokémon with Leaf Storm and Leaf Tornado. Though all the other water Pokémon quickly took their distance. Even Gerald made sure to stand in between him and his little sister so she wouldn’t be hit by stray attacks.

But in the end, the Tropius carried the defeated Seadra onto land, gently placing it on the ground. Gerald made short work of it and threw a Pokéball at it. Hoping that it would stay in rather than prolong the capturing process.

Gerald looked upon the Swarm of Snorlax. It was a rare sight for sure. Today he was alone. Having left his little sister in the care of a babysitter whom he trusted. He was here for one purpose, and one purpose alone. To catch one of these sleeping giants. His sister had always been a fan of the big fluff balls, just as much a fan as he was off eating omelets with bacon.

Though as he stood there and tried to figure out which individual he would want to catch, he realized that since they were all asleep, he would be unable of seeing what he presumed would be waste differences in personalities. Really should’ve brought a PokéFlute, eh?

He sighed and decided he would just have to let it come down to luck. He could always teach it manners later. He took one of his Pokéballs and threw it in the general direction of the swarm, hoping to catch one of them in the process.

Sootopolis City, Huh… It was weird to think that not too long ago, the closest he had been to the sea was the few times they had gone from Fortree and to Lilycove. Small pleasant memories found within the haze of darkness that was his life. But now, here he stood, atop the cliffs that looked out onto the oceanic route of Route 126. It was these very Meteor cliffs that separated the city behind him and the ocean itself.

Gerald had been granted a chance at a new beginning, helped along by Team Rocket. He knew the price for their help would be steep, but he would willingly pay for it if it meant his little sister could have just an ounce of a better life.

Speaking of. To get her acclimated to the area, and to give her something else to think about than the soul-crushing events of the last few days he had chosen to take her to go Pokémon catching while also getting an amazing view in the process. Pokémon catching was something they had both enjoyed doing together in the past, hopefully, it would get her in a better mood in the present.
