The capture was successful and Anna was ecstatic. It brought a smile to his face, as she eagerly showed off the Pokéball that now held the Rookidee inside.

And with that done they moved on. The next pokemon to stumble upon them were a fish. None of them wanted a fish, so they quickly moved on.

Clad in what could best be described as combat ready attire with matching face covering mask, he stood at the cliff’s edge high above looking down into one out of a hundred of the cavernous crevices within Area Zero. The place was filled with Interdream Mist, and from the mist a near constant flow of different Paradox Pokemon emerged eager to wreak havoc.

Now usually that wouldn’t be a problem. However, Team Rocket had placed a temporary research location nearby and they’d rather avoid it going to waste. And so his job today was to deal with this little issue.

But for now he was simply taking stock and waiting for his partner to arrive.

He wasn’t trying to hide. There was no reason to as he was approaching whom he figured was the Rocket partner assigned to him today.

He approached clad in what could best be described as combat ready attire with matching face covering mask. He knew it might cause some distrust with his supposed partner. But after all, he had to protect his civilian identity during these rather obvious Rocket jobs.

“Nice to meet you.” A greeting spoken with the enthusiasm and honesty of a corporate slave. “You can just call me Titan” It was the code name he usually used for these operations, besides it sounded cooler than his actual name.

“Are you ready?” Had Sage expected a conversationalist, then disappointment would be sure to greet him soon enough.

Unfortunately for the Decidueye close quarter combat was not its forte, and so it found itself quickly defeated against the opposing forces of Taunt and Mighty Cleave.

Knowing it could do no more, the Pokemon sunk into the shadows and returned to the safety of its Pokeball.

Gerald noticed this. But by then Gerald also saw the approaching Pokemon. Two powerful looking ones, and one of them seemed to have a rider.

“Rise high and make sure they don’t get close!” Gerald commanded his Iron Moth, and with an acknowledging beep it rose into the air and fired waves of BUG BUZZ over the field hoping to hit both approaching Pokemon and their rider.

But Gerald wasn’t about to hope that such a simple trick would be enough. And so he summoned another Pokemon to the field.

The red blink quickly faded as a lithe Pheramosa stood by his side. “We’ve got enemies approaching. If they get close I want you to handle them.”

The Pheramosa nodded and bowed humbly before she took position watching and waiting, eager to jump the approaching enemies.

The next Pokemon Gerald and Anna stumbled upon was a Rookidee filled with young eagerness to prove itself.

Seeing the two humans approaching it quickly landed in front of them and challenged them.

Anna looked to her brother and he nodded. “Sure, you can have this one.” Gerald replied and handed her a Pokéball. “But you know you need to defeat it first.”

Anna nodded and summoned the Pokémon Gerald had offered her. A Sobble appeared, tearful as always, but ready to battle. And so they did. The young girl doing her best to direct the water Pokemon during the battle, as a montage of classic scenes played out in front of them.

Sobble barely dodging a Drill Peck. Rookidee hit by Water Gun. A Tearful look from Sobble giving the Rookidee a false sense of security before the latter used BIND to finally incapacitate the bird.

Now incapacitated, Anna threw a Safari ball at the Rookiedee, hopefully capturing it. And while all of this was happening, Gerald couldn’t help but reminisce about that one time Isaac Merlo had visited, and gave Anna a taste for theatrical battles. He wondered what the guy was up to now.

Gerald’s quiet moment was disturbed as he heard the water breaking the fall of something, and then moments later a taunting roar. Something or someone was here.

“Quiet down, and hide somewhere. Sounds like we have company.” He growled at the nerds pulling them all too quickly out of their debate.

Another Pokemon was released from one of his many Pokéballs. The robotic Iron Moth beeping and booping, questioning what was going on.

“Set up an Electric Terrain around us, and do it quickly.” Gerald commanded. And the Iron Moth quickly Obliged.

Meanwhile from its ethereal vantage point the Decidueye heard the taunt. And as if compelled to do so, it revealed itself to its victim and their friends. And barely had he done so before the MIGHTY CLEAVE came bearing down upon him. He tried to respond in kind with a LEAF BLADE, but unfortunately the green glowing blade shattered beneath the weight of the Iron Boulder’s Strength.

At the least the Decidueye had managed to save itself from some of the damage it might otherwise have sustained. But the situation weren’t good.

Gerald’s attention turned away from peering around and onto to of the nerds that began to squabble. They had found something, though what that something was, Gerald could not tell as they argued in science-mumbo-jumbo.

But while everything seemed nice and quiet at the base, Decidueye found things less safe. From its vantage point amid the shadows in the air he noticed something flying toward them, something unknown, and something clearly looking for something.

There was only one thing to do.

From its perch in the ethereal ghost realm it poked out and aimed an Arrow at the Roaring Moon and let it fly as a SPIRIT SHACKLE.

Unfortunately Gerald had no Infinity-Energy sensitivity. However, he was sensitive to loud whip cracks that could be potential danger.

He set off in a run, making his way as quickly as he could toward the sound, forgetting all about the tracks in the process. The Absol followed him in an effortless jog. And as he came closer, what appeared before his eyes were definitely not something he had been expecting.

Expectations aside he took stock of what he saw as best he could, a Vensuaur and some weird person riding its vine? There were some other Pokemon too, but right now he was kind of fixating on the vine-girl.

“Is everything alright here?” He asked bewildered and worried in equal measure.

Gerald’s gaze wandered as his worry began to take root. It wasn’t a baseless worry, but it was something he could do woefully little about, save for perhaps a single thing.

Moments later a Decidueye had been summoned from its ball. Gerald commanded it to scout the area, and deal with anyone that looked too snoopy.

And so the Grass-Ghost soared into the sky quietly like a shadow, higher and higher. And for a while nothing out of the ordinary caught its watchful gaze. Five minutes or was it perhaps an hour later a Roaring Moon caught its attention? However long it had been, it did not know. And it didn’t matter as the Decidueye began to try and stealthily follow.

For the moment his time at the Research Station protection unit had come to an end. It had been a bag of varying success. But such is life. Now he had been moved over to the search and capture unit.

While the move irked him, he made the best of it. It allowed him an opportunity to work alone for the moment. An opportunity he relished as it made things so much simpler. This time he had decided not to wear the Rocket Gear, but rather keep it more modest.

His civilian persona would surely not raise any suspicions since from what he had heard many League and unaffiliated trainers had joined the fray in exploring this place. Right now, Gerald wasn’t doing much exploring, but rather tracking as he had stumbled upon a set of peculiar tracks which he decided to follow alongside his Absol.

The crashing sound of water hitting rock at a nearby waterfall echoed over the small Incognito Research Station hidden near a rocky cliffside, no safety perimeter save for a quick makeshift fence. No, the only proper investment in this place’s security was the fact that Gerald was currently watching over it while the Researchers did their job.

The job had so far been rather uninteresting save for a few unfortunate Rangers that had found them and discerned the truth of them. He had dealt with them quickly, capturing and securing them as best he could given what he had to work with. Which wasn’t a lot, just some rope and a tent.

But now with nothing to occupy his mind, he was starting to feel the itch of looming danger again. Surely the League would find them soon enough, and he was certain they had some way to discern their own research stations from fake ones or locate the missing Rangers.

Luckily he was clad in his work gear, which admittedly made him stand out like a sore thumb against the more casually clad nerds. But did keep his face and identity hidden. His clothes, combat graded, and colored in blacks and grays.

Gerald gulped. He could feel the sweat slowly trickling down his back while he did his best to keep his gaze from wandering to the ominous Sylveon.

“Well, the League had made it clear they knew our affiliation. I figured we couldn’t talk our way out of it…” He began to speak, nervousness making his tongue slipperier than usual.

Gerald then realized instead of actually answering the underboss’ question he was making excuses.

Gerald took a deep breath, nodded and said. “We began to fight on my orders.” There was no way around it. He was certain that even if he hadn’t given the verbal command some of those under him would’ve still joined the fray the moment he charged.
