Despite his earlier disdain, he curled his lips inward in a subtle attempt to stifle an amused grin, only for the attempt to falter altogether at the note of his own Gyarados surfacing a bit further away.[break][break]

His jaw dropped, dumbfounded, as the beast spat a few objects onto the stones of a nearby tide pool.[break][break]

”It…looks like someone had some better luck, though…” he murmured, furrowing his brows as a curious glance cast itself upon the waters.[break][break]

As if needing another moment to process the object so close to him, he eyed the tool for a little while longer before finally turning just enough to be able to pluck it from her hand. He eyed it for a couple of moments before spinning it betwixt deft fingers, touching it down into the dirt.[break][break]

”Noted,” he hummed, already beginning to loosen the roots gripping within the soil beneath him. With a handful of them within his grasp sometime after, he shook as much of the excess dirt off as possible before reaching over to place it into the sack.[break][break]

”...You think we’re actually in for the worst?” he hummed idly, turning back to search for the next bunch of plants.

”...Do you think it’d be possible to recharge it?” he mused, equally parts curious and skeptical of his own suggestion. ”Like…if we used another Pokemon to transfer electricity.”

With a new bag of snacks cradled within the nook of his arm, he couldn’t help but find himself taking a pause upon noting the sidelines.[break][break]

A familiar sight of a weaker, golden pelted sheep caught his attention from within the shade and lull of the crates of a nearby alleyway. As those around him continued bustling and striding along amidst the nightly festivities, the Stone glanced to and fro for a moment; a gesture made in attempt to see if anyone else saw what he did.[break][break]

After seeing that he’d been the only one to see, he began walking off to meet it.[break][break]

Met with an initial glance of wariness and borderline defense, the man smiled softly as the creature began to shift and stand, noting an immediate limp and offset of balance within its form while doing so. His brows furrowed in concern and thought upon seeing as such, and after a couple of moments’ worth of mulling, he slowly and gently sat himself down upon the concrete beneath him.[break][break]

”You’re fine, buddy…” he cooed softly, reaching within the aforementioned bag. He watched as the darkened, beady eyes of the electric type lingered upon him, only to trail towards his hand as it returned to view with a small, fish shaped pastry between his fingers. ”You want one~? You look like you might be kinda hungry.”[break][break]

He held the baked good out for a while longer.[break]
His smile broadened as the beast finally began stumbling forward.[break][break]

As its small, weakened hands took the confectionery from his hands, the trainer softly and slowly reached over, taking high care as he brushed his fingers against the Ampharos’ cheek as it began to nibble the treat. He took the moment to examine the sheep further with a returned, yet subtle look of concern.[brea][break]

After some time, he reached over for another piece of bread with one hand, and a capsule with another.[break][break]

”Here. Have another for the road~.” The words came within a gentleness amidst the ongoing activity of those around them, and once the second offering had been taken from his hand, he deftly hooked the remaining around, tapping the Pokeball within his grasp against the Pokemon’s leg. ”We’ll get you more food and a checkup soon. Promise~.”[break][break]

And he did. After a quick return to the surface, he’d already gone back into the waters alongside his Gyarados after leaving the original parts of his haul in the security and safekeeping of a couple of his other Pokemon. Again, he held onto the scales of the serpent as a means of quick travel before spying another item worth nothing within the waters.[break][break]

The lights strewn along the banisters were just as he remembered them.[break][break]

Before taking off for other regions in his youth, the night markets were always a guilty pleasure of his. Though raised in what felt to be a different world than the rest of the people in the region sometimes, it was always a way he felt he could connect to everyone else. There was always enjoyment. There was always room to enjoy the simpler things.[break][break]

All things considered, it felt like home, just as almost everywhere else in the region did.
