Calla can’t help but laugh at his forgetfulness. “Yeah, we were here for publicity reasons, if you recall.”[break][break]

Or rather, he was. She’s just there to assist.[break][break]

Her hands rest on his arm in a balancing act to keep herself afloat without having to kick her legs quite as frequently. Tucking her hair behind an ear, she glances back over her shoulder toward the tents down the stretch of beach.[break][break]

She squints, but she can’t make out the Pokémon they’ve left things to. “Dunno, but I have only the most confidence.”[break][break]

Twisting in the water, she turns to face him again. “Do you actually like doing all this?” A pause, before she clarifies. “Running Akura, I mean.” It might sound a bit nosy, but it’s genuinely asked.

“Can’t believe I let you talk me into this,” she grumbled as she smoothed down the front of her skirt, then tugged at the hem of her knee socks. Blue eyes drifted over to Liam Cassius as she shot him a flattened look, deliberately avoiding looking down to where her bulbasaur and vulpix hovered by her ankles—looking exceptionally cute and wide-eyed to make sure that she didn’t change her mind and tote them back inside to the comfort of her anti-social tendencies.[break][break]

In one hand, a treat basket dangled from a plastic handle—holding onto it for Turnip for the time being. At least until they got to wherever they decided to shake down houses for treats. Maybe she should have tried to persuade Liam that a night in was superior—spooky flicks and take out or whatever could be just as fun (preferable, obviously, in her opinion.) And he’d still have the benefit of hanging out with her, but no—somehow she was outside in the crisp autumn weather as the sun began to sink lower and lower.[break][break]

“Can’t believe I’m wearing these, either.” Sighing, Calla reached up to tug at one pink skitty ear on the headband pulling some of her long, silvery hair back. It was low effort, though, at least.

“Mhn.” Her own hum of agreement was equally as grumbled. Extra hands would’ve been useful—they could’ve assisted her easily, but nooo. Calla can do it all, or so her department thought. She shot him a finger gun at his assessment, winking in tandem. “Bingo.” It wasn’t a glamorous job, and low level, but she supposed it could be lower still had she not been the PA of the company’s CEO. Plus, Calla liked working for him. Uriah was easy to get along with, even for a prickly pear like herself.[break][break]

“That’s sorta understandable, given how big the family is,” she shrugged loosely. Or would that make it easier? Calla couldn’t claim to know—she’d only personally interacted with Uriah. She sighed, looking at the line and sullenly accepting the fact that it would set her behind schedule a bit. There wasn’t any use trying to rush the situation, no matter how gogogo Calla could be.[break][break]

She turned curiously, back to Paxton, brow lifting. “Hm? I never said I wanted to work here.” Her lips curled just a teeny tiny bit, “I suppose you’ve caught me, though. I would. Someday, maybe.” She liked the idea of making a difference. Or maybe the illusion of making a difference. She’d always felt so helpless to the tumult around her, back in Kanto. But Paxton was more or less a stranger, and she was not about to unravel all of that on him.[break][break]

“An interest in being ground moving, I guess.”

Hoisted up over his shoulder, she doesn’t attempt to wiggle free. Instead, she goes limp like a sack of potatoes because she’s pretty sure if she tried anything she’d just fall off which has the same exact result as being dunked.[break][break]

She almost asks where are you going? but it’s sort of obvious, right? There’s only the shore and…more water. “Oh wow, you’re so benevolent.”[break][break]

Cal sinks and pops back up like a buoy when she’s carefully released, arms fanning out to keep her floating since she’s definitely above her head in depth now. The knowledge prompts a slight flicker of uncertainty because with a bad leg she’s not an exceptionally strong swimmer beyond the basics. So though he lets her go, she hovers. “Wonder how Chad’s faring.” Almost sort of easy to forget they’re supposed to be working.
