The static in the air is mirrored under Blue’s skin as she waits for her next match to line up. The threat of a storm hangs in the sky in the form of dark, rumbly clouds. Waiting to break open like she threatens to break apart. On the cusp of it.[break][break]
It’s only the jangle of her nerves. The anxiety of being out in the open. Would THEO BECKETT disapprove of this? She can’t bring herself to care. And what does it matter? She spent months in the wake of that day out on Route 120 hiding from him and from the reach of Rocket, only for him to find her regardless.[break][break]
Blue can’t waste anymore of that time feeding into the fear he coaxed out of her. It’s a bitter taste in her mouth. The weight of stares from spectators and fellow tourney participants alike makes her skin prickle. So many eyes make her feel like a cagey, cornered dog.[break][break]
Her red-eyed stare hones in on her opponent– a pale-haired woman she should probably recognize for her standing, but doesn’t. She cuts an intimidating figure, but that is okay. If this is where Blue keeps her focus, and on the match itself, she will be fine.

It was anyone’s guess as to how this match would go.[break][break]
Early enough into her own string of matches, Blue has seen both wins and some losses. Maybe more of the latter rather than the former, but she’s undeterred by the stats. And she definitely isn’t about to underestimate her competition.[break][break]
Even when they’re way younger than she is.[break][beak]
Honestly, those are some of the tougher opponents to go up against. Definitely for the likes of herself, who has only ever trained her pokemon as a means of helping her in work and to get by, rather than for formal battling. All of this..? It’s new.[break][break]
Blue’s expression, normally severe and stoic, cracks the tiniest bit for the girl who stands in front of her now. The hint of a smile, a real one, worms its way to the corner of her mouth and she lifts a hand to wave back. She remembers being a girl like that once, and how tough she had it. Even then.[break][break]
Blue hopes that is not the same for her.[break][break]
But that does not mean she will go easy in this match. Her mightyena takes the pitch up ahead of her, fur glimmering with the crystalline shards of poison tera-typing.

Bonnie was on her game this go-round–perhaps too irritated by prior losses to tolerate another. She crouched as the bull spun around, keeping low to the ground as she prowled forward with legs ready to spring out at Big Bert. The mighyena leapt, claws out, but was knocked away by the ZEN HEADBUTT. With a yelp she rolled–the hit actually registering where it normally wouldn’t have.[break][break]
But that was okay. She was doing relatively well, all things considered. Springing back up to her feet, the canine struck out again–that time in a full leap toward the tauros’ back as she tried to SUCKER PUNCH it in the ribs with her back paws.

Its attack smacks the mightyena away with little effort, even with the bolster of terastalization. Bonnie rolls across the floor and refuses to fight any longer.[break][break]

It would be an exercise in lost causes. Blue recalls her in a huff, and watches as MATIAS SILPH leaves. “Yeah. Sure it was,” she replies sarcastically to his retreating back.[break][break]

Matches like this don’t really matter anyway. Not in the long run.

The hint of a smile returns when Bonnie manages to knock into the meowth.[breaK][break]

The big cat sways, even if it isn’t toppled—which seems like a good sign.[break][break]

Her emboldened mightyena surges forward despite the pulse of thunder that comes for her. Electricity makes her jump, fur standing on end. But doesn’t halt her from slamming against the feline again, in attempt to TAKE DOWN its larger body.

The blast of the POWER GEM sends Bonnie skidding back with a yelping cry. But soon she’s charging forward again, ready to spring at her opponent once more. [break][break]

“Careful,” she says simply, encouraging the canine to PLAY ROUGH without getting too close to the oversized pokemon.

The removed criticism of the meowth’s efforts is strange to her. But Blue doesn’t care to criticize how another person trains their pokemon.[break][break]
Large, spectral claws rake along the mightyena’s sides, earning an angry growl. “Don’t get distracted,” Blue tells her simply.[break][break]

It is enough to pull Bonnie back on track.[break][break]

The hound, glistening with violet crystals, lunges in to bite at the pesky cat again. This time with POISON FANGS.

It’s actually quite nice that he doesn’t try to fill the empty gaps with pointless chatter. Her eyes dart to the mightyena as she terastalizes into poison type.[break][break]
She whistles, and the canine darts forward.[break][break]
Only to be beaten at her own toxic game.[break][break]
Bonnie skids to a stop, looking up as the meowth stretches in size. Undaunted, her jaws snap at the meowth’s feet, trying to CRUNCH down.

“Good, Bonnie,” she called out to the mightyena as she successfully latched onto the tauros’ tail. She held on, though the bulk soon started to buck and yank her around. Bonnie growled through her grip until she was finally flung away and sent tumbling by Big Bert’s retaliation.[break][break]

She yelped before rolling back up to her feet. No matter how ridiculous the sight had looked, the canine wouldn’t be distracted. She lunged forward again, snapping at the bull’s legs, seeking to CRUNCH down on one.
