The hideous, pitiful scream of extremely potent fear continued for who knew how long—until his Absol had had enough and decided to headbutt him hard; knocking all the wind out of him and forcing him to double over in pain!

“Ow! Ouch, C-Cordy, what was that—” he trailed off, before he heard a familiar voice in the mist…

“Oh, shit. Don’t tell me I’m not the only one who’s lost out here?!” he exclaimed, sighing as he realized that the owner of the other voice was all too familiar—

Clambering onto the Absol’s back, palms all sweaty and trembling from the extremely potent fear that had frozen him in place, he rested his head into the Dark-type’s fur.

“Take me… get over to where that voice is coming from.”

Because if Cordy was smart enough, she would eventually recognize just who was having their own little moment in the fog as well…

He had no idea how much of a prideful little beast his Absol was, but the last attack was enough to send it careening to the floor, knocked out cold.

He had to bite back the cringe that was rising up from inside, swallow that pride, and quickly clambered onto the stage to get his Absol out of there.

“Close, but not quite… I almost had it, yeah. Good luck to your other matches!”

And away he would go, rushing to get his Absol treated.

He knew that the Pinsir had definitely changed form—as his Absol was also capable of that, however fact of the matter was that he wasn’t sure if…

No, no. Best not to think too negatively.

Instead, he squared his shoulders, and gave his Absol a tiny little knowing nod.

“I believe you can do it, Cordy. Let’s bring this match to an exciting end!”

With those words, the Dark-type would then charge forward for one last time; with a surprise Psycho Cut coming in really fast, really close, and really—

“Let’s go!” he continued to cheer; even though the odds were against him.

“Nice match, you had me worried for a few minutes there, if I’m being honest,” he called from his side of the field as the bell signifying the end of the match went off, and he was proclaimed as the winner of the current round.

“I wanted to ask where you found that! Your—the uh, the Gardevoir and Gallade combination Pokémon. Really threw me in for a loop there,” he continued before his Absol was shunted off the stage and cleared out for the next battle.

Thankfully, though, the screens would change and the crowd would disperse; mostly. There were still a few people gawking at them like they were some kind of statues at a road show, before he looked around and saw that there was a food stall that practically had no people buying from it—

And they were selling musubi sandwiches, ooh!

“Hey, let’s go over there,” he gestured; because man he wanted a snack from home—yes, he could tell right away that the stall sold Alolan snacks…

“And I also wanted to ask you about your Samurott, if you don’t mind… but like, after we get our snacks, of course. No, no, don’t worry about paying—I’ll cover our food.”

He would mentally cross his fingers while the Absol backed up and decided to put her all, her everything into this last Night Slash attack—hopefully; this would be the one that would decide the match!

Okay, wait one second, hold the fuck up this Pokémon could also Mega Evolve?!

He couldn’t help but take out his tome, along with a pen and flipped to a fresh, blank page before quickly scribbling down notes as fast as he could in his shit shorthand while the Absol had to back up a little bit—since when did this thing get suddenly big?!

“Careful!” he called while still scribbling onto the paper before allowing himself the briefest of glances. “Don’t lose your cool!”

And with that she would charge forward again; this time with a surprise attempt at a Sucker Punch attack!

The moment the amalgamation Pokémon lashed out with the exact same attack as she did, though—

“Don’t take the bait!” he called from his side of the field, clenching his fists as he did so. “You can do this!”

Taking a deep breath, the Absol turned to stare at the combination—well, it was definitely a combination to say the least—before switching tactics and going for the Future Sight attack this time—she didn’t know if it was going to land, but she’d cast her net.

Maybe she should start matches a little differently next time…?

The moment the wind cut through the arena their Pokémon were fighting on, hell even the Absol had to squint for a few moments before the much-larger-than-a-Skarmory avian took off and charged forward; wings grating like streel bars clanking against each other…

“Don’t just stand there, move!” he all but yelped; and the Absol quickly reared up before lashing out with a surprise Psycho Cut attack!

That bird was coming in way too fast for her own good…

The way he’d gotten so inexplicably lost in the fog made his senses go on high alert, despite the fact that they were walking in a straight(?) line and the Absol was keeping an eye out for them no matter what happened in case they were—

A loud screeching noise echoed through the fog; and he felt a bead of sweat roll down the side of his face. What… what could possibly have caused that loud noise?!

Were there… were they dead coming out to play?!

Never had he felt the fear lay down thick on him, suffocating him like a blanket as the screeching, shuffling—yes, there was shuffling now—got closer and closer and closer and closer—

He then let out a scream; and the Absol’s cries of distress cut like a knife through the fog.

If this next attack didn’t land, this would be the very first fight where he’d lost in a clean sweep—

“Snap out of it!” he continued, mentally crossing her fingers as she came down with a surprise Psycho Cut attack—if this one didn’t connect she would completely and totally be in for it!

The next attack would also come from out of nowhere, catching the Absol by surprise once more!

“Whoa!” he yelped as he looked up at the screen broadcasting their fight because the retinal burn was still seared into his eyeballs—looks like that’s going to be there a while—before the Absol shook her own head and took a breath to calm herself down after getting socked in the face with that surprise attack.

And from out of nowhere, she would then drop a Psycho Cut attack on the strange amalgamation Pokémon as well; hoping to either knock it off-balance or surprise it for once!

It—they—definitely looked unfazed.

He pulled out the black orb, and threw it at his Absol—and there it was once more, the funny-looking balloon-shaped hat atop her head!

“No more messing around,” he said quietly to himself; the fierce determination mirrored in the Absol’s eyes, who then swung her head forward and attempted to lash out with a Night Slash after the earlier attack had rammed into her.
