A genuine laugh escaped Yumi's lips, melodic and soft. "I don't know if I would call it heresy, though my mother might. No, a Galarian fog is not quite the worst of teas," she teased, her tone light.[break][break]

Nikkari's question about home made her pause, however. While she was quite open about her past and the circumstances leading up to her leaving home, she was entertaining her companion as a host to her place of business. They weren't meeting as friends or even acquaintances.[break][break]

Yumi did not prefer to avoid speaking her mind, but some matters required a certain delicacy. "Johto," she replied, before taking a sip of champagne. "I was born and raised in Goldenrod City, though I had the opportunity to travel a lot when I was young."[break][break]

She smoothed the front of her dress, easing away imaginary wrinkles with her slender fingers.[break][break]

"Such as Galar. I studied at Wyndon University for my degree. That was several years ago, though." A mischievous smile curled her lips then. "I wonder if we might have almost crossed paths."

Yumi's first prize from Clamperl Diving was quite extraordinary, so she thought there was no harm in trying again. Once more, her Sharpedo accompanied her to the bottom of Slateport Beach. She reached out a hand and grasped the first item that caught her eye, then kicked her legs until she reached the surface.[break][break]

For the second day in a row, Yumi strode up to the throwing line of the dunk tank without recognizing the person on the hot seat. She eyed sven korolev critically, then the distance between the target and where she stood.[break][break]

Without saying a word, she picked up a Pokéball and threw it with all her might.[break][break]

When fern delaney invited Yumi to a poolside catch-up session, there was absolutely no way she was going to miss out on it. She showed up in a daring pink swimsuit and oversized floppy hat, her things carted behind her by henchmen.[break][break]

And she'd brought all the goods: two enormous picnic baskets full of delectable finger foods, sliced fruits, and bite-sized desserts; a cooler with two large bottles of wine; and a bartender she'd hired to mix cocktails, just in case.[break][break]

Yumi lay back on a pool chair with a strawberry daiquiri in hand. "Hmm, well…"[break][break]

She launched into several sordid tales, each one more salacious than the last. None of them were about higher-ranking Rocket operatives, however; she knew better than to spread rumors of the upper brass.[break][break]

By the end of the conversation, she had finished her daiquiri and was laughing fit to burst.[break][break]

"What about you? Anything fun happening lately I need to know about?" she asked as her Popplio hopped into her lap. Her fingers stroked the sea lion's fur.

"Ugh, typical," Yumi said without missing a beat. "Hopefully the food they're selling here is just as good as the snacks back home."[break][break]

She fell into step beside him, watching as the staffer at the gate checked their tickets and waved them inside the park. Yumi thought about telling Sen 'thank you' for buying them ahead of time, but she let the sudden display of light and color distract her from being grateful.[break][break]

"Wait, Sen." She took out her phone and brought up the photo app in selfie mode. "Pose with me for a picture. I'm going to post it on Instagram."[break][break]

Squeezing in close, Yumi pursed her lips in a flirty duck face and threw up a peace sign. Clickclickclickclick! After four shots, she stepped away from her cousin and checked the images.[break][break]

"Good enough." A moment of rapid thumb typing later, and she'd uploaded it onto social media with the tag #Funtasia. Then she pocketed her phone and tossed her hair over her shoulder. "So, where to first?"

Yumi couldn't believe it. Of all the people to reach out to her about the Magnificent Funtasia scheduled to travel around Hoenn, the first to do so was none other than Sen Hasegawa. Her ungrateful, unruly cousin.[break][break]

She almost declined the invitation, but memories of how much fun she and Sen had at festivals as children rushed to the fore of her mind. As much as she hated to admit it, she'd missed their good relationship when they were younger. Now it seemed all they did was mistrust each other.[break][break]

So, against her better judgment, Yumi agreed to meet him in Lilycove.[break][break]

Since there would be games and other physical activities, she chose an appropriate outfit, with houndstooth trousers, a black crewneck T-shirt, and sneakers. She carried her essential items — wallet, phone, quick fix makeup kit — in a small leather backpack.[break][break]

"Wow, you're actually on time," Yumi remarked to her cousin when she saw him at the main gate. Her Stoutland, Kiba, trotted at her side like a sentinel. "So we're actually doing this, huh?"

Yumi stepped up to the fabled dunk tank to find a stranger (Julia Davis) already in the hot seat. Cocking her head to the side, she tried to determine the strength and angle she'd need to dethrone her.[break][break]

"Time to lose your crown, princess," Yumi declared before throwing a ball at the target.[break][break]

Yumi had heard about Clamperl Diving during last summer's Splashfest, but she had been too busy establishing a residence and work in Hoenn to participate.[break][break]

This year was a different story. She waded into the water at Slateport Beach until it reached her waist, then took a deep breath and dove down. With her Sharpedo's assistance, she was able to reach the bottom in no time. Reaching out a hand, she grabbed the first thing that caught her eye.[break][break]
