"You're definitely drunk already," That was okay though because Leif knew he was even more of a lightweight than his brother. Sadly, he was shorter so he had less body to handle the alcohol consumption. Though if it meant that Lam wasn't gonna judge him all that much, maybe this was the opportunity he was looking for? He sipped at his drink as if he was trying to keep up. In truth, he was nervous and a little self-conscious, though the reality didn't show. He should have been an actor, he was entirely too good at lying about his insecurities.

Admittedly, watching Lam stare down at his phone all dopey-eyed and dumb, well.. it made him feel lonely. Unfortunately, Leif knew he was the type of person that couldn't go a day without dating someone. He was in need of too much affirmation to go without hearing that he was cute or sexy otherwise he might die. This time was supposed to make him independent, strong. Lam went years all sad and pathetic, but totally unbothered. How did he do that? Sure, he was happy that Lam was happy, but he was also jealous.

This would be a lot easier if he didn't attract so many jerks or settle for the first good-looking rich guy to give him a compliment. He wasn't dumb, unfortunately, but he knew what made him happy and didn't ask many questions until it bit him in the ass.

"I don't know... guess I've not been a very good one so..." He sighed, it probably didn't matter right then. Lam was drunk so anything he said was probably a little null by then. "I keep waiting for you to tell me you told me so. You have every right to."

Leif didn't know how to handle guilt, honestly. Though it was, admittedly, a common affliction for him. Mostly because he got himself into stupid situations and he wasn't actually impervious to feeling at fault. More often then not, he knew he was a shithead and that he deserved what was coming to him. That didn't make it fair. He often felt like the short end of the stick, like he continuously pulled the short straw.

He was used to feeling like everyone else would be picked over him and so it was his first instinct to reject that mentality with self-confidence (no matter how acidic).

"Yeah, I'm hungry enough to eat anything at this point." Even Lam's crappy freezer food. No longer could he afford his top-tier vegan food that no longer looked fit for human consumption with the amount of gravitas it underwent. That was okay with him, honestly he'd only pretended to like that food because other people in his circle did. That was the thing about him, he had no identity except for what was popular. Lam saw through that and so did everyone else. He hated it. So yeah, he'd eat the shitty frozen food.

He'd forgotten that Lam was dating someone though, that made this difficult. He wasn't visiting, he was a nuisance. Excess fat that needed to be cut away just so that Lam could do gross things without scarring his brother. He sighed at that, "I'm looking forward to meeting him, for the record."

"What?" He paused at that, caught off guard by the question. The guy was certainly straight-forward, wasn't he? That was a trait that Leif actually admired, despite his hesitation. "Oh... no, no... I don't want him back." It was stupid, though at one time he might have wished for that. Before he'd come to his senses, he'd blamed himself for everything that happened and that was probably what Demarco had wanted, to break him down until he blamed himself.

Leif wasn't exactly perfect himself, even if he tried to trick people into believing as much. If he was a better person, he wouldn't be here hiring a hacker to ruin his exe's life. He'd have moved on and made peace with it, or whatever. "Yeah, every season or so... he releases a collection of new designs that people pay him for. In reality, he has no real talent and profits off manipulating others." At one time, he'd defended the bastard like an imbecile.

"Yeah designs, sketches, images, patterns. He has a server filled with them for safe keeping." Of course, there were material assets too but nothing could be done about that unless he hired an actual thief, but he didn't exactly have those resources. "You can do that?" He was a little surprised by that, even if he shouldn't be. The other was a hacker, after all.

He nodded as she agreed, sipping at his coffee. At least Yumi Hasegawa wasn't hard to work with, though he knew himself to be quite the diva in the past. Not that he'd necessarily changed, he'd just been painstakingly humbled recently and wasn't yet confident enough to show his ass in this regard.

"Not sure if that's necessary, but I'm down if you are." Leif was definitely extra enough to give the bodice a corset fit and yet experience had taught him that extra was not necessarily more. Admittedly, he would have taken control of this, but he felt the distinct need to seek opinion in a way he hadn't before. It was a little annoying for him now, as he wasn't quiet on his own opinions.

As she worked on lining the lower half of the dress, he worked on stitching that would go later on into the decorations on the top. It was elegant embroidery that he found he liked the more he looked at it. "So, how long have you been into fashion?" He might as well attempt to make friends while he was in Hoenn, right?

A lot had apparently happened just before turning up in this place. Truthfully, he shouldn't have been surprised at the temperature considering he was visiting during the winter months, there was no telling how the weather would end up. Though, he knew his brother was as much of a baby as he was with the cold.

Leif wasn't sure what he'd been expecting upon popping up in Lam's house unannounced. It wasn't like they'd been on the best of terms before Lam had left and, despite himself, he'd always felt guilty for how he treated him. That wasn't the topic of discussion and he wasn't yet ready to apologize, but even then the guilt was nagging and intrusive. In truth, he probably should have counted himself lucky that Lam was kinder and more forgiving than he was.

"Yeah fine... I'm sorry." He'd have to eat an apology for that one. He hadn't be able to tell the other he was coming, because he'd been afraid he might have to explain himself. Of course, he'd inevitably have to explain himself, he just wanted it to be under controlled circumstances. Leave it to him to think he needed to be in control of how he explained his fuck up. The truth was he couldn't stay in Alola right now because he was humiliated and their dad couldn't handle it. Really, he missed his brother, but he couldn't tell him that because that was too vulnerable. Leif didn't feel good when he told the truth, because the truth exposed him for what he really was.

"I don't know, whatever you have... I guess." He shrugged at that, not about to be picky about what he ate. In truth, he was hungry enough to eat whatever was laid out in front of him. He'd not gotten much to eat on the ride over. "It's not a fib..." It was a fib and being stubborn about it wasn't going to change Lam's opinion of that, but he wasn't ready to admit the truth that he wasn't at all prepared. He had no idea why he was there or what he was planning on doing.

“What did he do?” He felt himself tense up at that. I'm not ready to talk about that, Lam, he wanted to say, but didn't. "Nothing. I don't know what you mean." As if it wasn't perfectly audible in his voice that he knew exactly what Lam was referring to. A pinched, pathetic, childish sort of ache that wrung at his throat. He hated it. Yet Lam relented, which he was grateful for. "Good, I'm... just here to see you, that's all." That wasn't entirely false either, he just didn't want to say why.

This reminded him of when they were younger. He'd always wanted to hang out with Lam back then and, admittedly, he still did (at times). Of course, he'd forced a division between them and that was his own fault. It had been beyond stupid. By the time Lam tried to reason with him, there was enough space between them for those words of advice to turn into something else. He'd looked for any excuse to turn Lam's warnings into something bitter and hateful. In the end, he was the fool.

Admittedly, his greatest fear was still to be dismissed. For Lam to laugh in his face and tell him "I told you so" and leave it at that. Then, he would have to sit in that and continue hating himself for his continual bad decisions. Leif wasn't sure he could even blame Lam at that point if that was exactly what he did. Hell knew he'd been the type of person to do exactly that to his older brother if given the chance. It was almost as if he didn't know how to do anything right.

"Are you sure?" He paused, a little smile weaseling free. "You're only saying that because you're drunk already." He could tell. Though, the bad thing was that Leif was even more of a light-weight than his brother was, which was pretty damn bad.

He smiled up at that camera, staring at the lit screen for a moment and then the bartop as Lam fumbled with the phone, likely sending it to Rook. This idiot was starting to make him emotional, which wasn't fair. He sipped aggressively at his drink, which was the worst idea if he wanted to maintain composure. "Why are you being so nice to me?"

When Lam had invited him out, he'd never anticipated that his older brother would take him to a place so fancy. Despite his best efforts, Leif still found himself easily star-struck in the face of grandeur. Even if, over time, it had turned somewhat rotten. Going to places like this used to make him feel important, like he made it finally. That wasn't the feeling he got. It felt nice that his brother (sadly quite poor) thought to take him to place like this. Especially since it was probable they'd be begging for happy hour prices.

Instead, going to places like this, reminded him of how easily he was bought. All someone had to do was wave some money and he would come running. In hindsight, it was a pathetic flaw of his. Of course, he didn't think his brother was attempting to buy his love, but it was always a possibility.

His weird boyfriend also needed them out of the house to decorate it or... something. It was actually, in Leif's opinion, kind of sweet and he hated the fact it made him feel resentful. Negative emotions cause wrinkles after all. He really hoped that this meant that Rook had bought him a hotel room at the Nimbus, so he'd been extra nice to the guy.

He looked up at the familiar voice, squinting at Lam because the other decided to wear that to a fancy hotel. "It's a..." He plucked the drink menu back up, "Negroni... it's featured so.." There was a bit of a discount for it for the holiday, but he didn't want to be perceived as caring about the other's wallet. Despite his apparent nature, Leif didn't want to be a mooch (unless they were rich enough to afford his taste). He wanted to be rich himself, famous with his own designs, not an accessory. He'd just... gotten lost at some point.

Leif didn't often feel nervous when it came to fashion, yet every piece of fabric felt wrong in his hands. It might have been humorous under other circumstances, in a self-degrading way, that the great Leif Logan was struggling from inferiority complex. How laughable. He knew plenty of people that would get a kick out of such news.

"Thanks," He said, a touch quietly as he stared at the unfinished dress. The ribbing in the upper bodice was the best in the class, in his modest opinion. He might have even chanced saying theirs was the best, but he knew his opinion was ultimately biased. "This seems flimsy, does it need inner-lining or am I being picky?" He angled his pencil at the silhouette of the gown, specifically the lower half, which probably could use added strength. Then, he sipped at the ice coffee, surprised to find that it actually met his rather picky standards. "This is good."

Leif didn't play well with others, he was a hoarder of his fashion. However, admittedly, Yumi Hasegawa wasn't terrible to work with. That, or maybe his recent tragedies had made him less picky by necessity. He couldn't afford to be a total asshole about it all.

"I know I am," He waved the other, shirking off the rest of his jacket. Only to be further insulted. Leif scoffed at that. "It was warm and sunny in Hau'oli when I left. I'm not prepared for all of this cold shit. Snow though... that was kind of cool in a freeze your ass off charming sort of way." It lost it's charm having the traipse across the parking lot to find a taxi cab. A good record five minutes of fascinated glee before it melted to misery.

"Oh please, it's not acerbic when it's the truth, dear brother." Hardly acerbic, considering he'd refrained from calling it trashy. Leif somewhat envied people that could wear ripped and baggy clothes unironically. He was always so hyper-aware of how he looked, it didn't mean he was better for it, but he could certainly pretend to be.

Sometimes, he regretted the way he treated Lam. It didn't always make sense to him, but there was always a strange taste of relief whenever he'd pissed off Lam to the point that he left the room. Like a weight removed from his shoulders. It didn't make sense still, but it sometimes felt good. Leif found he was a chaser of relief, of temporary good feelings. They never lasted, but at least they felt good at the time.

Leif offered the jacket over as Lam held out his hand expectantly. "Okay yeah, guess I should have... done that. Didn't really plan that much into it." This was clear to him as he found he had no actual plan for what he was going to do after the day or two of offered space from Lam. There was still the possibility that Lam said no though. He hadn't expected Lam to have a boyfriend though.

He knew when his lie wasn't strong enough to convince Lam. He knew that he was a tenacious bastard that demanded convenience. Lam saw straight through him. His temper pitched, panic making his voice pitched like an angry child's. "I just wanted to visit you okay!? It's nothing big. I just couldn't get a hotel room. That's it. Why do you have to make things so difficult?" He swallowed and his throat felt raw, in the way it did when he wanted to cry. Pathetic.

He tapped his heel anxiously. "Can I at least like sit and marinate before you grill me?"

"If you weren't gonna pick me up, you could have just said, asshole." He hung up the phone, bitter taste rising in his throat. To make matters worse, it had been over voicemail. It wasn't until the silence followed that he regretted it. Marco would call him bitter, say his temper made him childish. It was probably true, but he knew the bastard didn't approve of him finding other jobs. However, this was an opportunity he'd be an idiot to ignore. Not a designer, but a fashion show coordinator. Close enough, right?

There had been at least a chance he might get it until it started raining and he didn't have a ride. Maybe this was karma for something. There was certainly a long enough list that made him well enough deserving of it. But, really? A monsoon? Not to mention, one of the frail limbs of his umbrella had snapped, doing very little to stop the downpour.

Stuck, the same goddamn feeling he always got in these situations. You are stuck here, happy or not. So much for a great trip to Hoenn. He lived in a literal tropical paradise and thought travel would help him, obviously not.

"This is so fucking typical." He was going to be late, this was so embarrassing.

Leif snorted at that, surprised the other had offered the sandwich at all. Shaking his head, he took the knife and cut a much smaller piece out of the offered half. He was not about to feel like he owed that much at least. It would be just enough to quiet his stomach until he could return to Lam's house to sneak food from a cupboard. "Thank you," Not a common occurrence for him, but even then he smiled just a little bit. Maybe, one day, he'd pay him back for it.

There was very little he knew about this guy, but that was to be expected. Secretive hacker dork, seemed par for the course that he might not want his name out. If anything, he'd worm it out of him at another date, if necessary. He was good for things like that. Plus, he was fairly certain even he could bully him until he cried, maybe twisted his arm a little.

"He is a prick. Among other things." He said then, with a nod. He tried not to slip into a somber mood because he was hellbent on believing himself over it all. It was easy to say he'd been a stupid, naive kid then. It's less viable to still be sad about the whole ordeal. No, he was angry.

Granted, if he was well and truly over it, he wouldn't be here. He wouldn't be in Hoenn or this diner, plotting over how to get back at him. No, he'd be contentedly moved onward, finding out his next step in life. Sadly, Leif was not that kind of person. He was bitter and mean and he didn't like feeling like a fool.

Still, he sighed. "Well... his spring collection is paramount for him so I figure that is a good place to start." With what, exactly? He didn't know how far he was ready to go. Or, more so, how far he could go. Not far on his own.

Leif laughed at that, "I thank god for that every day." Fuschia eyes rolled before he kicked the door shut behind him. It was cold, his nose was red and he hated it. Beggars can't be choosers, he was versing himself in this saying to such an extent that he notably hated it as well.

Lam looked.... well... "Wow, you haven't changed much." Not that he'd expected much of a difference. There was something so quaint about Lam's lack of style that felt strangely like a familiarity he hadn't realized he'd craved. The very sight of Lam wasn't supposed to make him feel all warm and fuzzy like a second home. It was supposed to fill him with dread and vexation and annoyance at his situation. It was supposed to remind him the very daunting question: why am I here?

Lam reworded the question and asked him anyways. Leif pouted, shrugging off his jacket, which was pelted with thick droplets from melted sleet. "What a thing to ask your dear brother after he's been traveling hours just to see you." He could lay it on thick when needed. Guilt tripping was second nature. "I wanted to visit, is that really so bad?" In hindsight, he should have come up with a better reason than that. While he did admittedly enjoy the sight of his brother, he didn't wish to admit to that and it wasn't the primary reason for being there. Lam likely wouldn't buy it either.

Had this been a year ago, he might have made fun of Lam's living situation simply because it wasn't his own. His own, currently, was far worse. It could be said that at least Lam had a place. Leif hadn't even planned that far ahead or seen if he could find work out here. It was a disaster so far, but that was too serious to bring up.

"I don't know, you left. When was that?"He paused, because it needed to be said. He had to admit to something. "SO... the hotel had made a mistake and I'm in need of a place to stay... just for a little..." Little white lie.

This felt like a cruel dose of karma.

Years ago, he'd gotten the chance to go to Hoenn with Demarco. He'd spent all the time preparing for it by making Lam feel bad for not being able to. And yet, now here he was back in Hoenn under much different circumstances, hoping his brother would have mercy for him.

Lam had no reason whatsoever to be merciful, Leif knew this. He knew he could be a pain in the ass for his older brother and their memories weren't always fond. Though, there had been a time he'd looked up to his brother and thought of him as his best friend, that changed the second he'd determined he could be so much better than that. As most determinations were with him, it was fueled by a driving insecurity, but he wasn't about to admit to that.

Now, he was here with daunting realization that he might actually have to admit that his doofus brother had been right. Again. It was so damn frustrating he could scream, but alas... unnecessary emotional outbursts lead to early facial wrinkles. Even more so, he was here knowing he had next to no plan besides the burning hatred he held for that old bastard he had the misfortune of calling his ex. It was just a little bit of fun. If an ex is even the term he could use, considering the bastard saw it as a good time. Two years was not just a good time.

So, yeah... he had no plan, no money, no place to stay. And Lam was probably going to laugh in his face and send him away. Not to mention, it was snowing outside. He was not impressed. Okay, maybe at first he'd been, but within a matter of minutes he was over it and craving the beach again.

Still, he knocked.

And nothing happened. "Open up, you jackass." He grumbled, before the familiar voice filtered through the door. Clearly, Lam had no sense of stranger danger, but oh well... he wasn't a stranger.

Alright, well... here goes nothing. He pushed the door open, roller suitcase in tow. "Lam, darling! I'm in town."
