[nospaces] [attr="class","calpurnia"] [attr="class","text"] Calpurnia tries not to let her brow go upward. Obviously, many people did not consider a shift from field testing to administrative assistant to be a promotion. The mother’s job trajectory had been pretty straightforward. She’d started as an intern in an old pervert’s lab. Then, she’d been hired by the League for a junior position. After rising through a few ranks, she joined the Sygna project. Now, Kelpie sat at the same rung on the opposite side. “I do love a woman who can think on her feet.” [break][break]
At least she’s being honest now. The little curtain between them was tugged apart. Violet was now open about her role in this process. This transparency is followed up by another challenge. To say that this would be done ‘on the spot,’ implied she had not prepared for an interview. This sort of question was exactly what she expected. Calpurnia pauses only a moment before giving her answer.

“I’ve spent my entire life without a perfect answer—” She had grown up poor, the result of a deaf mother and a barely functioning alcoholic father. Then, she had to deal with assholes at every step of her career. “I find solutions.” The elder woman took a deep breath. “And my motivation for this is not just about League versus Rocket squabbles.” Certainly, she did not like the League. They had dismantled her life in many ways.

Fired her and sullied her good name in the scientific community. Chased her husband into an Ultra Wild he never found his way back from.

“I do it because I know how dangerous these so-called gods are.” A simple Onix had leveled her hometown as a child. But the scale these gods brought were much worse. “I held my own against Kyurem and that dastardly little thief.” Ugh, she hated sticky fingers. [break][break]
Then, of course, the most simple reason of all. “And, simply put, I would be an asset.” She did not make a habit of applying to things she wouldn’t succeed at. It was bad optics, after all. Practicing was done in shadows, out of prying eyes.
