The wind was howling at the speed Cauli was going. She was in second now, but the surge of air passed them would come in the form of Ace on his Salamance. He beat her to the end of the race, but behind him came Hosh and his Altaria. It was now neck and neck, gym leader versus challenger! He inched ever so closer while both of them crossed the finish line together. It was close enough that it would be up to a photo finish to decide the winner. The teen departed from her Altaria, the rush still coursing through her veins.

"Ohmygodthatwassointense, thanksforhavingme! Ican'treallyrfeelmyhandsandhowlongwasthat?" Vanilla was giddy, having to hold onto Cauli as she'd be bouncing up and down, trying to wear the adrenaline off. The footage was being prepared as Vanilla and Josh waited. Her eyes locked onto that badge, eyes swimming full of hope. Could she have won on her first try? All it would take was a little luck and trust in Cauli's skill. The video was prepared and the times were shown....

"I did it!" Vanilla cheered, hopping up and down as she hugged her Altaria. The drained but gleeful Pokemon cried in glory while its wings fell on top of Vanilla's back. Josh came over and congratulated her on the win, dropping the bedge in her hands. The challenger looked at it in awe, then smiled back at the gym leader once he mentioned being pinned as the champions inside of the gym. So it was kind of like Navy's then?

Vanilla pocketed the badge and then stood before Josh. "Actually if you don't mind, would you mind if we raced more one day? It would be an honor to fly or ride with the Josh Devlin!" Her eyes showcased her newfound enjoyment of racing. That glimmer of awakening, tasting the sweetest dish for the first time in what was likely ages. "Only if you wanted to, though."

Josh Devlin

As Vanilla sat on the floor, trying to work her way through the pain as she'd breathe in and out while trying to work through the brief snippets on pain. Her head looked up as she saw a familiar face of the man that had rescued her and Ribbon from their certain demise. The Sylveon chirped at seeing the man, wiggling its tassles alongside a friendly cry. "It's you..." Vanilla said, slowly clutching her way back up onto her two feet again. One hand used the seat of the wheelchair as leverage to slowly forced herself back up to her two feet. Once she knew that she could make the fall, Vanilla plopped down with a relieved sigh. "What are you doing here?"

She looked pretty worse for wear, though extremely lucked to have survived what she did. Her skin was a tad more pale, alongside her torso being wrapped in bandages and such from the explosion at the peak of the volcano. Her right leg was in a green colored cast, complimenting her blue eyes and aquamarine hospital gown. A stray cough escaped from her before she could beam up at her savior, though hoping that he wasn't going to up and take her back to her room. "I'm sorry, I never got to introduce myself on that mission. I'm Vanilla. And yes, it's my real name." She looked back to her party, leaning backwards as the drugs were beginning to work their magic.

"Thanks for-" She let out a wheezy cough, spitting out some reddened phlegm on the ground. "Thanks for rescuing me at the volcano again. The doctors said that I was lucky to stabilize...whatever that meant. But if I took the full brunt of that Tera Blast...Anyway, thank you. I wish there was someway I could repay you." Vanilla smiled weakly, as Ribbon chirped happily again. She remembered Isaac just as clearly as her owner. Her eyes fell onto her party, who would all look up at Isaac.

"I was here to work on our training for the gym challenge. Even if the doctors don't want me out of bed, I can't let these guys fall out of practice. It's just...hard with my injuries."

Isaac Merlo

With the end of the summer challenger season coming to a close, sign ups for the next few gym challenges had been full for the next few weeks or so. Even if Vanilla was still recovering from the events of not one but two outings where she was harmed, the teenager was still out and about working on her team. The trainer had snuck out of the hospital with her team and was slowly making her way towards the Ever Grande training grounds where other trainers were busy doing the exact same thing. Granted, nobody was wearing a hospital gown and in a wheelchair while read in the face, but Vanilla would pushed herself off and onto her feet. Pain shot through her body as she wobbled, gritting her teeth together. "G-Gimme a private area, please..."

After a long winded talk and managing to talk her way out of having the police called on her, Vanilla was unlucky with getting a private area and had to settle for a normal one, alongside other people that occasionally stared. All of what she needed was around the area, neatly arranged alongside the other people. She called out her Pokemon, those being her Machamp, Sylveon, Drapion, Altaria and Drakloak. All of which would help arrange stuff that they would need to go over training exercises. Vanilla helped, having dragged a wooden target across the field for target practice. During this, she tripped as part of her knee would flare up in pain again. She fell onto her knees again, feeling the pain shoot up her body while wincing to herself.

"C-Come on, get up..." Vanilla Her hands dipped into her bag slung across her shoulder, pulling out a pill bottle and downing two painkillers before laying there, waiting for them to go into effect. Her Pokemon slowly crowded around her as the teen tried to catch her breath and slowly crawl back into her wheelchair...that was across the area. Other people watched, either in disbelief or concern, though she didn't care much about it. Humiliation and her were well acquainted given her ridicule about her baking skills.

Isaac Merlo

Isaac Merlo & Vanilla Kingsley

Sure, Isaac's known Vanilla for only one mission or so, but the girl's a bit of a trooper as her track record shows!

Although She's still young and green to the hostile world of Hoenn, the girl never says away from any type of challenge or fight. Vanilla came from Hoenn close to a year ago in search for her father, a former Ranger Captain that went missing years ago. She's inherited his stubbornness and is deadset on finding him, even if naive.

I could see her and Isaac getting along well! They share a lot of the same characteristics and she definitely would ask for his help to become a better battler. More stuff they share hobbies with could be exploration and gardening. Vanilla's a good cook as well, so if he ever needs a hearty meal, she can totally provide!

The massive Charizard is bombarded by every little attack that its new typing would be weak to, significantly damaging it in the process. Yet as the dust settled, it would throw out one last desperation move while utilizing the full power of the terra crystals surrounding it. A fine dust begins to be picked up in the air, as a dark blue is able to be seen coming off of the fire type. It's power radiating from it is massive, and this attack is going to hurt if it lands. Her SYLVEON, meanwhile, continued to attack the Charizard as it would launch another MOONBLAST at the enemy.

As the crystals started growing brighter and brighter, it became very evident that the worst was yet to come. She had to get Ribbon out of there before things became unsalvageable. "I can't lose you too, Ribbon. Let's get you back in your ball." Her hand reached for Sylveon's Pokeball, but only found a void where it normally was.

"Huh?!"

She looked down to confirm that the Pokeball wasn't there and cursed to herself. "Nonononono..." she said to herself, eyes looking all around the ground for the capsule. No shiny red balls within the nearby vicinity. It clicked in her head about what must have happened when she fell. "Damn it, I must have dropped it. But with much the ground's shaking, it could be anywhere!"

Panick erupted in her system as she whistled for Sylveon. "To me!" The Sylveon spun around and looked at her trainer in confusion before bounding over quickly. Unfortunately, the blast was much too near. The energy coming from the Charizard was far too great to ignore. Ribbon wasn't going to make it to her in time. Panicking, the girl did the only thing she could as the blast was coming. The Charizard unleashed its Tera Blast as the energy would close in behind the Sylveon.

Her feet moved before her mind could register. Vanilla was in no shape to take off into a dead sprint, but it's what had happened. Nothing else mattered in that moment. Just somebody desperate to not lose another member of the family in her life. In an instant, Vanilla dove towards Ribbon, embracing the Sylveon in her arms. As they fell to the ground, she turned to face away from the incoming TERA BLAST, shielding the Sylveon with her body as the blast encapsuled them both...

With some trickery and fancy flying, Vanilla and Josh were neck and neck for third place. They comitted to the S-turn as the challenger would look over at the gym leader, her mega evolved Altaria keeping its wings to the sides while cutting the corner as much as possible. She was smiling, her hair blowing in the wind as she laughed. "Woohoo!" They went back and forth onto who could overcome the other before Josh's Altaria would scratch on the ground in order to slow down long enough to regain altitude. The two of them surged forward, overtaking them both as Vanilla now placed in second. With the final obstacle coming itm it was down to the wire. Anything could happen in these past few seconds! "Keep on going, Cauli! We're almost home-"

Her voice faltered as the mega evolution wore off. her trump card had run out at the worst possible moment. Her Altaria would shrink back down into her usual form, looking up at her trainer as Vanilla cursed to herself. She leaned down as did Cauli, as Vanilla pointed forward. "Full steam ahead! We can still win this!" The Altaria let out a shrill shriek of angreement as they dove towards the finish line.

Josh Devlin

"Agh!" Vanilla yelped as one of the Glimmora's MORTAL SPINS can impacted her, scratching her arm as she was pushed back onto the ground. It sadly ricocheted over towards her ALTARIA and would share the same fate. Once the Pokemon were dealt with, Vanilla groaned and felt her body lag behind whatever movements she wanted to make. "Ugh, l-lucky shot..." It was like a culmination of every bad feeling condensed into one feeling. Her movement was slow coming up from the ground to push herself onto her rear, but Vanilla is able to move around somewhat, albeit pained. Cauli remains mostly the same, coming over to check on her trainer some as she put on a brave face. She thought back to when Thomas Benoit was able to pull out an antidote for the Nhilego poison back in Ultra Space, but now? Maybe not. But for Cauli, she recalled an option. "Cauli, REFRESH."

The Altaria would puff itself up, shaking its plumes as the poison effect would wear off from itself, which at least put some worry out of the girl's mind. She looked up at the approaching DESIREE BLOOMS with worry in her eyes and tried to at least offer some kind of way to ease her stress. "Ah-I'm fine, Desiree. R-Really." The pink Pokemon that sat in her lap made the girl looked down and come face to face with the Hatterene as it would use HEALING PULSE on her. She was filled with a comforting warmth, although it remained yet to be seen if it would have any effect. "Thanks, Hatterene." She had collected enough of herself to slowly force herself back onto two legs again.

Still, the teen pushed on with everyone else, just at a slower pace. Everyone wandered closer until they came across another gruesome sight. There was a small field of herbs that Vanilla had thought as familiar looking. She recalled seeing them one some advertisements for cooking things, although wasn't familiar enough to pinpoint what they could be used for. Not like she could at the moment, as she held the Hattrene in one hand and slowly moved towards the bowl with everyone else. Or tried to. The poison had ebbed and flowed in severity, as she stumbled and clutched her stomach in pain. She fell to her knees as another wave of illness washed over her. Not wanting to get in the way, she crawled over to the cliffside and put her back against the wall to prop herself up and scout out over the horizon for anything of note.

"Atta boy, Chum!" Vanilla called out for the smaller horde of Pokemon crashing against the larger one. But the celebration was short lived once the Eternatus slipped through the cracks of the Wishiwashi and slammed its body against the walls arena of the sea as a cloud of toxic debris began to spread. Vanilla felt Tsubaki's arm tug her away as she recalled Chum and then followed the woman to wherever she was swimming to.

"Where?! We've got nowhere to go to besides swimming back up! And we're like a million leagues down!" Vanilla said before Tsubaki brought her close and whistled to her Gengar. The ghost type would open its mouth as the child still stood confused. But it wasn't until she was told to close her eyes that Vanilla hugged Tsubaki's side and closed her eyes, bracing herself for the warp. As the Gengar closed its mouth on them, they were warped out to safety.

Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki

She was pushed behind Tsubaki as the gigantic Lanturn aimed to make lunch out of one of them and missed, thanks to some intervention on the older woman's part. Once behind the girl, Vanilla watched as her glasses would begin to shine as something would be happening around them. Shadows were growing more and more as any little digit of light was snuffed out before a Gengar emerged, though colored different. "What is that?" she asked, squinting her eyes as the strange Pokemon. "It's a Gengar but...it's white." It would mega evolve soon after and begin to do battle with the large Lanturn as sludge erupted from its mouth.

This battle wasn't going to end too easy though, as the attacking water type spit out water to clear out some of the poison around the area, which kept it at bay. There was no leadway in the fight yet, but anything could happen. Vanilla racked her head for somebody on her team that could help. She could send out Proxii, but shocking the water with them inside sounded like a horrible idea. And she didn't really have anybody that could help against some giant fish that was going to-

Wait, that was it!

"I think I have one!" she said, dipping onto her belt and tossing out a Pokeball. "Let's go, Chum!" The ball opened and summoned a horde of smaller bodies, swarming together until a Schooling form Wishiwashi would let out a cry, using its mighty form to antagonize the shadowy Lanturn. "Take it down!" The school of Wishiwashi would slam into their opponent, using its full force to push the enemyy back some and begin to fighting with it by chomping down on its side.

"That should buy us some time. Do we have a plan to get out of here?"



Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki

Vanilla was pulled back from the geyser blowing bubbles around them, and for good reason. Vanilla was likely going to just pop one out of interest had Tsubaki not intervened. Intrusive thoughts aside, the two continued their slow descent into the darkness as the lone Nhilego would continue to follow the only source of light leading them into the chasm. They passed by clusters of crystals on the walls of all colors, ones that Vanilla had wondered if they had some sort of energy like tera crystals. But they were too far away to really investigate, and she doubted that Tsubaki would let them stop and look. SO they kept swimming, swimming, swimming.

Their light source had soon come into view after some time had passed. As the two drew closer, Vanilla was surprised to see a broken spotlight, its power source somehow not fizzled out in this sea. She stopped alongside Tsubaki to watch the light swing around on the end of a huge broken chain. Just swinging back and forth in the depths. "Huh, I guess this was what we were looking for." she said, sounding a little disappointed at the discovery. "I was expecting something more...helpful than a broken warning light."

Just then, a great creature rushed up in front of them, its massive size apparent as it showed itself to the two. Vanilla yelped and swam backwards towards Tsubaki as a giant crystalized Lanturn would look at the two, its form twisted into an ethereal shadow that always seemed to shift around. It didn't seem to happy to see the two of them once more, opening its maw to display giant, sharpened teeth. "U-Uh....Maybe we should get out of here now?"
