With half their allies swallowed by the volcanic island's chaotic maw, those fortunate enough to remain where they can see the ashen sky must work twice as hard to survive. Rounding a corner filled with uneven footing, Yuina Higashi 's FERALIGATR disperses a pillar of black smoke with a SHEER FORCE-powered WATERFALL, kyle lopez 's RAIKOU-FAMILIAR ever vigilant for threats. Visibility restored, El Sunderland takes the initiative, the purple, majestic mane of the Emergent's SUICUNE-FAMILIAR keeping them cool as they ride ahead. emmett brookes ' GOREBYSS provides relief from the heat for the others not fortunate enough to be astride the Beast of Winds.[break][break]
The billowing smoke quashed from the water-type's efforts, it had masked an ember-filled, partially-collapsed tunnel, which Vanilla Kingsley 's IRON THORNS was quick to blaze a trail through. The noise attracts the attention of several wild MAGMORTAR and MAGCARGO, which Yuina Higashi 's SNEASLER is quick to dispatch. Their superheated FLAME BODIES leave the fighting-type with BURNS (SALAC DIFFERENCE) around the base of its claws, but it is a small price to pay to secure the group's way through the tunnel.[break][break]
 As the tunnel rises, so does the HEAT LEVEL, the GOREBYSS' AQUA RING causing the burning air to sizzle against the water-type's defensive measure. Though it staves off the threat of heat stroke, it does put SOME STRESS on the pink, deep-water Pokémon. The resulting steam also reduces visibility in the tunnel.[break][break]
After navigating the winding passage, the AQUA RING begins to wear off, though the adventurers briefly feel like they've stepped into an air-conditioned room from the temperature drop. The dangers of even the lower level of heat are still not to be underestimated. At the very end of the tunnel, Vanilla Kingsley and kyle lopez happen upon the charred remains of several humans, one of which is adorned with a red, orange, and yellow robe. A singular MOLTRES feather brings FARHAN, the leader of the Kindlers, to the forefront of the Top Champion's mind. While he examines the feather, his DACHSBUN's WISH refreshes the duration of the AQUA RING, keeping the squad as cool as they are going to get in such a miserable, hostile environment. After plucking the feather from the robe, the piece of clothing combusts. A refreshing warmth courses through kyle lopez as he feels a mote of divine power flowing through him.[break][break]
Near the trail's peak, emmett brookes ' presence a bit too close to the hoard of a towering KOMMO-O provokes a flourish of its loud, vibrating scales. The clangorous dissonance makes verbal communication nearly impossible. Their SYLVEON materializes LIGHT SCREEN in front of the task force. The defensive measure proves critical to survival, the air around the dragon visibly shimmering from the clangorous noise's intensity. Yuina Higashi 's FERALIGATR, El Sunderland 's ALAKAZAM, and Vanilla Kingsley 's IRON THORNS bleed from the inside out, the shockwave inflicting MODERATE WOUNDS.[break][break]
While the KOMMO-O reels from the vigorous sonic discharge, Pokémon rush it from all sides: kyle lopez 's DACHSBUN with PLAY ROUGH, emmett brookes ' SYLVEON with DISARMING VOICE, and Yuina Higashi 's FERALIGATR with ICE FANG. El Sunderland 's IRON VALIANT and Vanilla Kingsley 's IRON THORNS follow up with SPIRIT BREAK and STONE EDGE. The giant menace still stands, catching its breath between attack waves and rattling its scales for a second CLANGING SCALES to blast its assailants away. Before the scales get up to full speed, kyle lopez 's ASHEN LEGENDARIES and emmett brookes ' SYLVEON finish the job, leaving the KOMMO-O open to be CAPTURED by El Sunderland .[break][break]
With the KOMMO-O removed from its lair, to the adventurers go for the spoils. From within a pile of rare gemstones protrudes a pyramid made purely out of DRAGON TERASTAL CRYSTALS. Anyone who wishes to do so may mine a chunk of the crystals for themselves before leaving for the mountain's peak. Just after mining their shard, if they chose to do so, a SALAMENCE dives at emmett brookes , though a quick DISARMING VOICE makes the dragon think twice about making a meal out of them.[break][break]
As the Chalice looms into close view, CIAN MAHER and DEREK HOFFMAN come into view, Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki , Jack Napier , Michael Navidson , and Isaac Merlo shortly behind, many of them now sporting black spots all over their clothes. It seems like they, too, had hard-rought battles within the mountain's depths, but the two groups are reunited at last.
ESCAPE FROM THE DEPTHS
 As the unfortunate souls tumble into the volcanic island's depths lit only by red, orange, and yellow magmafalls, Michael Navidson 's GRENINJA creates several SUBSTITUTE clones of itself to break the falls of those who do not have other means to do so. The air within burns the lungs to inhale; Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki 's POISONING is becoming increasingly less effective in staving off the pain as time passes. The ember-filled air is the least of their worries, as the spacious, magma-filled cavern is home to a DRUDDIGON who looks none too happy to see the out-of-element motley crew.[break][break]
The preemptive ROCK TOMB barely scratches the creature's scales, but does restrict its movement long enough for Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki to land a COUNTER-blow. It gets a mighty roar out of the wild dragon, though the menacing Pokémon still stands. Michael Navidson 's GRENINJA opens fire with an ICE BEAM, though the burning air causes much of its cold energy to fizzle out. Jack Napier 's GARDEVOIR glows with a DAZZLING GLEAM that blinds the cave dragon, its eyes adapted for low-light vision. The opportunistic Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki and DEREK HOFFMAN order the use of BOOMBURST and STRENGTH from their NOIVERN and MACHAMP. The vibration reverberates throughout the cavern depths, a small section of the ceiling collapsing onto their foe.[break][break]
Seconds later, a TERASTAL GLOW escapes through the cracks. The immense energy behind the DRUDDIGON's DRAGON TERASTALLIZATION sends rocky debris flying in all directions like explosive shrapnel. With nowhere to hide from both the rocks and the echoing BOOMBURST, all active Pokémon suffer MODERATE WOUNDS but remain standing. In a vicious OUTRAGE, the dragon lunges toward the NOIVERN. Right on time, Michael Navidson 's GRENINJA comes to its rescue, collapsing a larger section of the roof on the TERASTAL DRUDDIGON and leaving it open for Jack Napier 's GARDEVOIR and DEREK HOFFMAN 's TERASTALLIZED GRIMMSNARL to finish it off with DAZZLING GLEAM and a FAIRY-TYPE TERA BLAST.[break][break]
The DRUDDIGON's hoard is filled with rare gemstones and a pyramid of DRAGON TERASTAL CRYSTALS. Anyone who wishes can carve a DRAGON TERA SHARD from it. Isaac Merlo and Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki make an even more striking discovery: the crown jewels of the creature's treasure vault are two rubies carved in the shape of a miniature SALAMENCE, each warm to the touch. After experimenting with them, it seems they greatly amplify fire attacks, like a superpowered version of a FIRE GEM.[break][break]
Rather than pack away all the treasure for themselves, Isaac Merlo brings up a point: what good will the treasure do them if they do not make it out alive? Using it as the world's most expensive trail, he uses the multicolored gemstones to track the adventurers' progress through the Depths' labyrinthine tunnels, preventing the group from getting lost. CIAN MAHER at last wakes after the battle, sees the strange trail of gemstones, and follows it to catch up with his compatriots. And not a moment too soon: magma begins to seep through the collapsed ceiling, flooding the cavern and putting pressure on the task force to find a way out before the chamber completely fills![break][break]
 The flooding has caused a trough on the upper levels to form a magma lake. Variations in tectonic pressure cause it to rise and fall like the tide, but it seems to rise more than it falls with every cycle. Toward the end of the crossing, Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki and DEREK HOFFMAN show the first signs of heat stroke from their repeated close proximity to the bubbling goop. The former Gym Leader's GRIMMSNARL tosses up LIGHT SCREEN as a heat shield, keeping the group from being cooked alive by the lake's convection. Once they are far enough from the magma lake where water will not instantly boil away, Michael Navidson 's BLISSEY bathes the group in LIFE DEW, staving off the threat of heat stroke.[break][break]
As the group approaches the top of the chamber, still unsuccessful in finding a way out, several DELPHOX jump Jack Napier on a small, elevated rock formation, pointing their wands at his neck. This formation quickly turns into an island from the rising molten rock. One holds a searing FIRE BLAST at the tip of its wand, threatening to cook the Lorekeeper with it; the others point them at the adventurers trying to save their distressed ally. DEREK HOFFMAN 's GRIMMSNARL REFLECTS one of the FIRE BLASTS into a crystalline lava tube, Jack Napier managing to duck out of the way of the shrapnel resulting from the colossal explosion. The magma pressure builds to unfathomable levels until it reaches its breaking point, sending the many DELPHOX flying into the all-consuming molten sludge below. Magma spurts out of a newly-created hole in the cavern wall. Though it is impossible to tell how far the molten rock went, it is safe to say some of it will impact the nearby seawater violently. The hole serves as an escape route for the task force to vacate their fiery prison.[break][break]
After getting back on the trail and following some recent footprints, Michael Navidson catches sight of kyle lopez , followed by the others, who were getting a good view of the Chalice at the volcano's peak. The two groups are reunited, but they are not out of danger yet.

The reunited task force carefully makes their way to the volcanic island's peak, doing their best to stay out of sight of the many dragons that patrol the Chalice's immediate area. The heat as they approach the crater becomes immense; while those underground may have been used to the kind of heat blasting them, it may have been stifling for those who did not.[break][break]
Within the crater is a large, arena-like platform surrounded by molten rock below. In the platform's center is the Chalice: an enormous TERASTAL CRYSTAL in the rough shape of a wine glass. Though it at first appears unguarded, an angry visitor emerges from below, splashing magma all over. Underneath the erupting goop is a gigantic CHARIZARD. While not Dynamax-sized, it is the largest one anyone on the task force had ever seen by a long shot. Those on the platform risk being singed by the falling, dropping magma.[break][break]
The angry, orange dragon stretches its neck out of the magma. Roaring and loosing a cone of FLAMETHROWER across the crater's highest turret, it threatens to reduce anything that touches it to cinders. The roar has also beckoned a small storm of normal-sized CHARIZARD to fly in as reinforcements. Diving at those too occupied with the crater's guardian, they seek to knock the task force down with powerful FLARE BLITZES and DRAGON CLAWS.[break][break]
As the battle's heat continues to grow, so does that of the Chalice, radiating purple DRAGON ENERGY...
