If you worded it like that and typed it up in a neat little report and submitted it to the Rocket Admins, they'd probably think you won, too. BARNABY FINCH wouldn't blink twice at it. jayden cross would congratulate you on a job well done. fern delaney would... Do something, you assume, you don't know, you've never met him. Later, you'd go out for drinks in Sootopolis with howard slayte, and he'd have that look in his eye as he told you it didn't matter, really, in the grand scheme of things.

And right here, right now? As the gym leader flees atop his Gouging Fire, and you revel in your so-called "victory"? You can't help but feel you would agree with him.

Pointless. Fucking pointless.

Breathing a sigh, you tap your Pokeballs. It's closing time at the bar, and you're the pianist playing it out as the depressed drunks shuffle out. With every keystroke, a Pokemon returns to its ball. By the end, you're left alone, truly alone.

And, more than that, you're left just as empty as you were when you came here.

As the wire lashes out, you duck down, the cable narrowly missing your head, but successfully knocking off your hat. Shooting back up, your first reaction is to mutter a curse under your breath. Shit, dude. Nothing can ever just be easy, can it? No bundle of wires can ever just be that. They've always got to have a Xurkitree in there! Fucking hell...

The second thing you do is immediately reclaim your hat, returning it to your head. Unfortunately, the newly made dent on it makes it an uncomfortable fit, but hey, not much choice, is there? It's this, or bald, and you'd rather shoot yourself than be bald.

Third, last, and certainly not least, you turn to your own Xurkitree with wide, annoyed eyes.

"Hey, HEY! GET THEM TO KNOCK IT OFF!"

Your Xurkitree, as usual, stands there for a moment. After that, though, it delivers a slight shake of its bulb before stepping forward. Turning itself up towards the tangled spaceship, it communicates with its peers... Or at least, you think it does. Hard to tell. It doesn't make any noise, but you hope that--

THWACK! Another Power Whip flies out, this one catching your Xurkitree by the body and sending it flying into the nearby wall. And that? That won't fly with you.

"Oh, you son of a..." You growl, before glancing over to Lulu and her Pokemon. "HEY, ALAKAZAM! FUCK THAT GUY UP!"

How did Quagsire even breathe underwater, anyway? Did they have fish lungs? No, that couldn't be it. They could breathe just fine on the land, too, so they had to have human lungs as well. But when, what? Did they have two sets of lungs? Fish AND human lungs? No, that was even more absurd. It'd be excessive. It'd be wasteful. It'd be like you having one set of human lungs and one set of smoking lungs, reserved exclusively for huffing cigarette smoke...

...To be honest, you were never really into surfing. Always seemed a bit bourgeoise to you. Still, it's novel, and intriguing, and they've got prizing, and that's all you really need. So, you watch a Youtube tutorial on Mantine Surfing, change into the most watertight bandages your doctor can (il)legally prescribe, and mount your stingray steed.

"Alright, bud, here's the plan - We hit eight Primarina Twists, and I clean sweep the prize list, so let's make out like bandits and--"
