was being watched, of course. a masked feline stood atop a nearby branch, lip curled in coy amusement. she was the warden of this bunker; tasked to oversee and report all strange oddities.

this certainly qualified.

the grass-type goes through a number of thoughts, and ideas, before finally settling on one. she'd prepare for them a welcoming present. from her cloak, meowscarada grabs for a small orb-sized flower. she tosses it limply into the field where stands, before she starts the long-process of reporting to her master.

not that it would be necessary. her SEED BOMBS were quite effective.[break]

river sinks to the edge of the pier, feet dangling mere inches from the water's surface. without his sweets, life didn't feel worth living.

a pair of eyes, and a hooked beak, poke themselves through the lapping waves. river feels a pressure in his mind as his eyes widen, and the urge to fall.

to sink. to submit. to drown. to-

he's pulled from the lull as a white, blubbered creature holds the squid in its maw. it wags its tail, splashing water everywhere, eager for praise.

"huh. not bad. not bad at all."

he encapsulates the squid in a ball, and decides he preferred a nice day inside.[break]

so, where he can find it - like now - river embraces it.

with a small, content smile, he reaches into his pocket for the stash of candy he'd been saving.

..only to find it missing.

river looks down, a blank stare meeting an empty palm. river pats his coat, and again, he finds nothing. only then does he turn around and spot the thievul already ninety-percent down the pier.

he stares after the dark-type for a moment.

then he's yelling.

"you son of a bit-"

what remains is blotted out by an explosive yell as a nearby fisherman lands his prize.

...there went river's peace.
