He watches the Paradox pokemon approach slowly. It didn't seem afraid, or overly cautious, rather, it wanted to emphasize its own power; each step rocked the cavern like small earthquakes.

"You want to argue size right now?" He would, if not just to irritate the woman further. "And no- I have no idea what that is. Resembles something from the reports of that one-night war though."

Regardless of its name, it was clearly one thing: a threat.

"It apparently likes to act without thinking." Did that sound like someone here? "I'll distract it with illusions and you strike."

He doesn't wait for the affirmation. An ILLUSION springs forth alongside a Zorua as it peeks from his hair. It looks at Blue, giggling mischievously, before creating a dolled-up version of the Paradox mon opposite of it.

It stands, stupefied for a solid moment, before bellowing a roar that signals an inevitable charge.

He didn't have that outward fight that Calliope Alvara did; his charisma was a damp rag in comparison. Moltres seemed to latch onto this as it turns its fiery gaze onto Calli and away from River. He smiles warmly up at the legend.

Moments pass and a horse of phantasmal coins drop on the bird. A dragon's hoard wasn't fitting for a phoenix, but that did not stop the grunt from letting loose.

He rolls quickly out of the way, choosing instead to stand and fight... away from others. Let them take the brunt of it. He'd rather sink further, and further, into the shadows.

The inconvenience burned at River, who was already showing signs of irritation, but he continued onwards nevertheless.

"The gym seems solid." It would be designed to take a punishment more than most. "Lock sight with it and keep moving. I'll try and cover our approach."

From his pocket he removes a coin, holding it between forefinger and thumb.

A face forms on the surface, etched like it'd been there all along. It looked up at River and scowled.

He muttered more incomprehensible phrases.

The scowl turned into a glare, but after a few seconds of silence, the Pokemon conceded. The face disappears just as a sandstorm whips itself into fruition. Expecting this, River dashes to the Gym.

the light catches the first inklings of flesh - shards, or shard-shaped pink protrusions precede a long, curved snout. all of that comes before the massive form of a great tusk. its grey, wrinkled skin looks damp.

river sighs and returns his butterfree. he replaces it just as quickly with another pokemon entirely.

"when you catch sight of that pokemon — disable it." the pale corsola huffed in affirmation, satisfying her trainer. placing her in his arms river dashes across the street and into the building. he speaks to the fleeting shadow of lykaios athanasia.

"we paint too big of a target on ourselves in here; giratina can just bring the building down." the situation, while alarming, isn't enough to pull any real inflection into his voice.
[break][break]
as on cue a figure appears in a warping of shadow just outside the windows. the massive legendary turns its crowned head to face the building right as a disable locks out the shadow force.

"it won't disable it for long. we need to get out of here while we have the advantage."
[break][break]
a shadow breathe drowns him out, consuming the building.
