There are many ways he can interpret their team name, but he's not here to submit a literary analysis. He's here to focus on what needs to be done, like taking care of Giratina in this godforsaken simulation.[break][break]

The briefing doesn't do much for him, only reiterates the basics of what he's already surmised. The premise, the safety precautions, the objective; Nothing too out of the ordinary for a mission. When he also considers the phrasing used in the briefing - neutralise or escape, not defeat - and compares it to what he knows of the supposed deity, this overall doesn't seem too bad a challenge.[break][break]

Just requires a lot of effort to pull off.[break][break]

As soon as the test starts, he's taking advantage of the chaos and ducking behind cover. Attacking it head-on right off the bat clearly isn't the best solution, especially when he lacks crucial information on how things might proceed.[break][break]

It happened all so quickly. Asriel didn't have time to prepare himself as the team is quickly transported into a simulation, a chaotic battlefield. Stunned at how realistic everything seemed, he was unable to comprehend reality from the simulation. Asriel is slow to react to a nearby explosion, falsely assuming that he couldn't be injured in a simulation.

Clearly he was a fool.
[break][break]
Luckily due to the Tailwind of River's butterfree, Asriel manages to escape the explosion by a hair. Taking a tumble he finds cover inside a nearby building, the infrastructure was crumbling away due to the fierce battlefield but it'd work for the time being. His breathing becomes heavy and his senses are disoriented due to the impact. Quickly realizing that his left leg was shredded by shrapnel from the explosion. Letting out a pained groan his pain intensifies while removing the shrapnel from his injury. The blood flow sharply increasing with it removed. Asriel then acts swiftly ripping off a sleeve of his shirt to wrap tightly around his leg to prevent further blood loss. He sighs uneasily, the pain he felt was very much real. Asriel had no idea that rocket was capable of producing such powerful simulations.

His attention returns to the mission with the sound of another distant explosion. While this was clearly not a good start, Asriel would not let this hinder him from the teams success. Separated from the team he pulls out his beedrills pokeball, quickly sending it out to the warzone to locate the others.

The beedrill does so with relative ease and quickly reports back to Asriel. Who decides the best thing to do for the time being was to stay put and wait for the action of his team.

While River Marx is right that it's ultimately not a game revolving around Katherine Fairburne, it would do them well to remember that avatars derive a fragment of their power from the gods they follow. There's a good chance that Giratina could simply pop out from behind them, or that it might already have grabbed Asriel Pryde while they weren't looking.[break][break]

He'll choose to withhold his silence, a ping from his pockets briefly pulling his attention to the outside as he dares to sneak a peek. Giratina seems occupied with the Rocket forces attempting to siege the land, a Dragon's Breath pouring over the rooftops of abandoned buildings down the streets and driving many out of their hiding spots.[break][break]

Add on the raging war outside, it won't be long till some other League supporters might smell their tracks.[break][break]

"We should probably meet up with Pryde."[break][break]

What was it they had said? Something about teamwork somewhere? A quick shove in and tug out of his pockets lets him pull out a Rotom, the ghost quickly attaching itself to the power lines and disappearing.[break][break]

It won't take long before the signals come back, electricity pulsing through the appliances in the area in a clear pattern: A trail towards Asriel's rough whereabouts, a status update on how he's... hurt? Injured in some way but not dead, at the very least. As for signs of Giratina -[break][break]

There's no silence to flood the streets, but the glaring lack of chaos from some giant dragon is a rather bad sign. With a tailwind to give them that push, he dares that venture out of their hiding spot, following the flickering lights from his Rotom's travels down the streets until he can slip his way into the same building that Asriel occupies.

"when you catch sight of that pokemon — disable it." the pale corsola huffed in affirmation, satisfying her trainer. placing her in his arms river dashes across the street and into the building. he speaks to the fleeting shadow of lykaios athanasia.

"we paint too big of a target on ourselves in here; giratina can just bring the building down." the situation, while alarming, isn't enough to pull any real inflection into his voice.
[break][break]
as on cue a figure appears in a warping of shadow just outside the windows. the massive legendary turns its crowned head to face the building right as a disable locks out the shadow force.

"it won't disable it for long. we need to get out of here while we have the advantage."
[break][break]
a shadow breathe drowns him out, consuming the building.

Continuing to monitor the battlefield. The beedrill returns inside the building to its trainer to notify him of the others approaching the building. Quickly understanding the situation Asriel's expression turns grim. It was a poor decision on their part to come to his aide, however, Asriel did have to accept that this entire predicament was due to his error.

It was a struggle but Asriel managed to slowly get back up. After the beedrill confirms the location of his team Asriel cautiously approaches, close enough to hear River's warning he notifies them of his presence by verbally agreeing with River. "While I appreciate the concern, you don't need to trouble yourselves with me. Grunting with pain as he drags his injured foot behind him.

An ominous presence behind them sends shivers down his back. The presence alone was enough to tell him that giratina had located them, "Quick go!" He shouts at them and swiftly swaps his beedrill for his luxray. Asriel could feel the Shadow Breathe further sap away at his energy.

With another heavy groan he manages to climb onto the luxray and it also begins to flee from the giratina. Following the others lead.

A difference in opinions will not sway him, and the way that River Marx simply follows instead of branching off to do his own thing tells him just about enough of this man's will. Perhaps, years of working undercover with rangers has clouded his judgement, making him value the lives of his teammates a little too much. Or perhaps, he'd always been this way, unwilling to leave others in the dust where it could be helped.[break][break]

The whole argument of having a target painted on their back really shouldn't even have come up - As soon as he catches sight of Asriel Pryde and his injuries, he scrunches his nose, looking around the building for alternative exits as he slips his way through the corridors. They understand the concept that they shouldn't be staying in here at least and with that, he raises a hand, making a quick sign as he goes for the back door.[break][break]

Behind them, his Rotom is hard at work, doing its best to absorb as much of the attacks and attention of the legendary with Substitutes. A floating digital clock ringing at full volume, a tv playing the latest Hoenn news, a lawnmower that begins to rev its engines - The ceaseless racket temporarily draws Giratina away from their escape route as a motorbike gets launched at its chest.[break][break]

With one injured, their chances of outrunning this beast grow slim. He has read the maps of this city, scouted every nook and cranny on his rare patrols here. They have to go somewhere, but where? If they try to hide in a normal civilian building, they'd get flushed out. The spire hadn't been accessible that day or perhaps, no one had been able to go in with the shifting of the land.[break][break]

"The gym?" He calls out. If it's built to withstand pokemon battles and has survived the Sootopolis riots, there's a chance they could use that to their advantage.

The scowl turned into a glare, but after a few seconds of silence, the Pokemon conceded. The face disappears just as a sandstorm whips itself into fruition. Expecting this, River dashes to the Gym.

River's and Lykaios's pokemon were keeping the giratina at bay. However, the insufferable roars that the beast emitted was a reminder that it was only a matter of time before it caught up with them. The biggest concern on Asriel's mind was everyone being sucked into the reverse world, figuring the simulation would be over if they were caught in giratina's realm. Failure would be unacceptable, this was a prime opportunity to make a name for himself. To showcase the skills he had been honing to the higher-ups, hoping it could reach his father. They would not fail.

The decision to relocate to Sootpoolish Gym was quick thinking on Lykaios's part. The luxray sprints faster rushing towards the gym and within moments it was in sight. Despite the chaotic battlefield that they found themselves in Sootpoli gym appeared to be untouched, they were lucky. Asriel steps off from the luxray, the pain from his leg shooting up again but he does his best to suppress it. Forcing the door open he rushes inside, closing them shut once everyone arrives.

"Smart call on the gym." He directs the small compliment towards Lykaios with heavy breathes. Asriel places his hand on his chest to try and calm his breathing. "We somehow managed to get away from the time being.. but I find it highly unlikely to defeat Giratina. " Asriel admits clearly dissatisfied with his lack of strength once again he meets the gaze of his teammates.

So.. any thoughts or ideas?" Asriel had an idea in mind, but he considered it to be risky. Unless there were no other options he didn't plan on giving them the details.

Making it to their destination is a lot easier with more hands on the job, a low breath drawn as he tries to steady his racing heart. The gym is but a temporary sanctuary for them, and he's glad that they're all acutely aware of it to a certain extent. They aren't going to be able to fell Giratina, but that only leaves two options which neither of them seem rather hopeful.[break][break]

"It's got better things to do than mess with us all day."[break][break]

If the scenario was simply playing out as it had, it would only be a matter of time before Giratina would be called back to it's avatar side in hopes of achieving something else on the battlefield.[break][break]

"We can't outrun it, even if we sacrifice someone. Our best bet is fending it off until it has to leave. Attacking it while it's distracted would be ideal but..." He frowns, briefly looking over the group. Just seconds after, a Rotom zips back towards him, peeled from the lights in the stands as it begins to beep. They don't have much time before the dragon comes crawling under their doorstep.[break][break]

Asriel Pryde is injured but seems to have several heavy hitters on his team... River Marx is capable of manipulating the field conditions to a certain extent. And he himself? Well, he'll do his best to fill whatever role he's needed in.[break][break]

"We need to make sure it stays within our sights. Marx and I are still able to move, so we can juggle its attention away from you." He knows that Asriel has been through some rigorous training and should understand his limits, even if he doesn't quite follow them. "You'll need to hit it hard in the meantime, Pryde."
