This was so much fun—like they’d come to a temporary halt to discuss plans and put them into action.

“A pincer attack—I like it. Let’s do it,” he agreed with a smirk. “Ready when you are!”

In no time at all he would wait for the other to go off to the right, while he would split off and head left, before attempting to head off the driver of the yellow bumper car in the agreed-upon ‘pincer’ movement!

“That’s for interrupting a legendary showdown!” he shouted once he was close enough.

Time to ride and die and bump into one another!

When she mentioned her cousin, he couldn’t help but laugh a little.

“Look, I don’t give a rat’s ass whether or not you’re royal or not. At the end of the day, we’re all people, so why not think of it this way: another way of getting closer to the people you care about is immersing yourself in their day-to-day lives,” he mused.

Sage advice coming from the one who had the ex-Galarian ambassador for a ‘brother from another mother’!

A few minutes passed, and thankfully the line shortened enough they could make a break for it.

“Want to go now? We can get on the ride quick, look, people are headed towards the rollercoasters now apparently,” he cackled as he tilted his head towards the pendulum ride that they were supposed to have gotten on earlier.

At least the line went through quickly and they were strapped in!

(Down on the ground below, he could see the Lucario looking up at the ride and snorting at the ride itself, again, in disdain.)

“Even faster than Tornadus?” he challenged, eyebrows raised.

He was sure the other knew of the Wandering Stormbringer’s existence, but then again this was comparing spaceflight speed to atmosphere speed through the air.

To be fair, though, this was Hoenn and not Unova—so there was that, too. While the cab was making its descent, he considered the merit of it.

“Let’s hope the line isn’t too long, then. If it isn’t, we go there next to the rollercoaster ride. Should the line be long, though… want to hit up the house of mirrors while we wait?” he offered next.

In no time flat, their spin on the merry-go-round had come to a close, and they were out on the fairgrounds once more.

“Oh, you’re into baking too? What’s your specialty?” he inquired, keen to know what she would be bringing along should they have a baking contest in the future. At the mention of the badge, though, he gave her another grin.

“You know where the find the Sanctuary, right? Just out near the city limits headed to Route 120. Ask around should you get lost, you’ll find it in no time flat.”

Now that they were headed towards the booths, he chuckled.

“You want to try that?” he asked, tilting his head in the direction of a booth that had a very large jar filled with jellybeans, that had a sign stating “guess the number of beans, win a prize!” stuck up behind it.

From the looks of things, nobody had managed to guess the right number so far?

And why did it have to be jellybeans?!

“I’ll guess if you are, too,” he cackled afterward.

With a title such as the Birdfather™ it was no surprise what he was going to choose.

Of course he was going to model his mask after his shiny Braviary, Kyouya. Of friggin’ course he would.

He was no stranger to arts and crafts (the perks of being a drag queen on hiatus) so with some of the feathers he was going to use for the mask actually donated by said avian, he set to work.

The vibrant blue feathers from the shiny coloration make up the front and the sides of the mask, stitched on very carefully to the mask to resemble the avian it’s inspired from. He’d deliberately leave some of the other feathers stitched on with near-invisible thread, dangling as they blew in the wind—

Much like the Tailwind that the Flying-type species as a whole were known for.

Okay, that was the cake done.

Now it was time to wrangle the birthday boy out of hibernation and feed him cake the whole day.

To be fair, though, he’d tried making one of those other cakes that had surprise goodies in them, so he wasn’t sure if the other was going to appreciate all the chocolate and the caramel squares in them when he cut the cake open…

Either way, after applying liberal amounts of sunblock, he then took another dip into the dark, murky surf before groping around and pulling something at random.

Oh boy.

(Even though he’d already said he would cover the cost for the other man’s stuff, Memo vehemently said no, so he wasn’t going to push the issue any further.)

“It’s better we do,” he said, grimacing in equal measure as he sent out—this time—just his Kleavor and Garchomp. His Lycanroc was taking a rest today, however these two weren’t (and looked ready to go digging even further.)

“And the next trip we’re taking here? We’re splitting shit equally, no takebacks!” he yelled afterward as the wind spurred them on to safety with their precious cargo.

This, thankfully, wasn’t his first rodeo here—although to be honest having a companion along relieved the feeling of being constantly mentally assaulted from all sides, all at once.

“I’ve been here before, so it’s nothing too big. Thing is… the longer you stay here, the more this place messes with your head,” he hummed quietly as he brought out a Kleavor, a Midday Lycanroc, and a Garchomp—his usual suspects when it came to digging.

“Go, start digging,” he said to the three—and off they went, destroying as much dirt as they could with their claws and scythes.

“And the longer one stays here, the… the more… potent, those visions become. You’ll know when you see them.”

If he only had some way to control time, then he’d have enough to actually get the frosting on the cake done!

As it was, he already had the cake done, he just had to be an indecisive asshole and not decide on an icing flavor because… what would the Frog like this year?

Last year… well, last year was one for the books, so this year he was hoping for something quieter…

Anyway!

Maybe a quick dive into the ocean with the remaining Wingull floatie would help him get ideas on how to decorate Memo’s birthday cake… Poiltoeds aside, of course!

Thankfully the packages he was waiting for finally arrived, and so his gift to the love of his life the other half of his soul was finally complete… and he had to let out a little guffaw.

If last year was water-themed, this year was fire.

So what’s next? Earth? Air? Are we going for the Avatar state here? he cackled quietly to himself as he realized that…

He’d forgotten to bake the birthday cake.

Uh-oh!

“Are you kidding me?!” he exclaimed, his voice going so high as he jumped down into the water without hesitation—he would have to make today’s dive extremely quick because he still had to pick up baking supplies!

“Alright, good,” he nodded with a beam on his face. Hey, she was catching on with the talking more casually now, which was promising!

(Now if only he could teach her how to flip between being formal and informal when the situation called for it…)

A few moments of rummaging later, he pulled out the bottle of pills, and shook it so he handed her the few pieces he was holding.

“Here you go, let’s wait for the line to shorten a little,” he went on as he led the way to the nearest tree where they could wait and she could catch her breath.

(And give the Lucario a break from the heat, of course.)

“By the way… doin’ good so far,” he continued with that knowing quirk of his eyebrows and an approving nod.
