“For a moment there I thought there were two Hydreigon,” he cackled as he looked up from where he was waiting.

“Can you fly, too?” he followed up, giving Chomper the elevator look from heads to tail.

He didn’t have any of his Pokémon out, at least not yet.

One of the obvious differences was that Hydreigon didn’t have feet, but she did—and that tail, goodness, was this was a sygna suit looked like outside of the one he wore before?

His field of vision blurred, and his body—well, for that moment in time he felt that his own body did not belong to him before the tentacles were forcibly removed and he was ejected from the writhing mass of… whatever those were as his entire body pitched forward.

In his head, it was like the signals were all scrambled—he had no idea that Nihilego toxin spread that fast especially at the point where he’d been stung—everything felt foggy, hazy—the good thing about this was that the jellyfish had been knocked away before it had a chance to take full control of him and use him like a puppet, but still…

The throbbing was thrumming in his ears as his center of gravity shifted and his knees literally gave out from under him.

It was like a light switch flickering violently, only instead of said light switch it was his brain’s signals going on the literal fritz as the poison spread and overtook him—before arms that were trying to help him stand up were suddenly reaching for Fox’s throat, intent on strangling the life out of the other.

• the mess that is going on in Lars’s head is just—a mess
• Nihilego toxin spreads really fast when stabbed at the base of the neck huh
• He’s literally flickering violently in and out of existence
• Lars has no idea whatsoever that he’s attempting to choke the life out of Fox

“You really went for the big guns, huh?!” he hollered as he watched an Aggron hit the frozen ground before literally roaring its challenge to the entire of Shoal Cave, so much that the ceiling shook and several stalactites snapped off and fell a dangerously close distance to where she stood.

“Che cazzo!” he grumbled a few moments later as the smaller icicles were easily snapped and broken in half—there was no way he could use the Z-Move right now as that directly involved the actual source of the current ‘problem’ that was causing the coming of the next Ice Age to spew forth from deep within the underbelly…

The Glastrier then galloped forward, their own body suddenly glinting with a metallic sheen as the Iron Defense was cast, before standing in front of the other four Pokémon that were crowding around her; another wall of protection against whatever the fucking hell the Iceborne Mirage was going to throw at them—

The Mega-evolved Aggron slamming into the frozen wall clearly pissed off the one that was hiding behind it, and the thick layer of ice refused to budge—with some tendrils of frozen energy reaching out in an attempt to inflict some form of frostbite on the Aggron!

“Oh, come on!” he yelled, this time clapping his own two hands together before conjuring up the perfect-sized shard of ice and then hacking away at the creeping frost that was spreading across the Mega-evolved Aggron’s scales.

The sweat was rolling off of him in buckets—enough to make anyone just fucking strip and continue the rest of the trek topless.

(Thankfully he’d packed several changes of clothing but holy shit, the heat radiating from the ground alone was more than enough to make him internally scream and rage.)

“Are we really going to take a dive into the danged lava?!” he grumbled as he followed the winding path that she took. Clearly, they weren’t where they needed to be—at least, not yet anyway.

“And you think—you think we’ll be able to find what you’re looking for once we get there? To the top?” he continued as he was literally second-guessing his choice of not stripping off his top and literally continuing up Mount Chimney topless.

The heat really did a number on him and was making him cranky.

“I sweat, if we have to go into the belly of this damned volcano…”

It would… be time… for them to meet outside of this room. To talk about that particular thing, considering the fact that Callan had pretty much dropped the bomb that Adrian was a member of Team Rocket.

I can’t keep it a secret from her at least. I owe her that, he thought as he shook the cup he had with him—and to nobody’s surprise it was already empty. What a time to run out of caffeine.

“I’ll be calling a meeting with the rest of the Rangers—they deserve the right to know what else happened out there across the warfronts, and get information circulated as well about the rifts—these ‘portals’ into other realities, if you will.”

He felt his eyebrow twitch for the briefest of moments.

“I—may need to borrow one of our Councilwomen after this meeting too,” he added as he tilted his head in his cousin’s direction. “It’s about something regarding Mount Pyre.”

Why did he agree—

He would do anything for a member of the Anderson family, especially if it was a cousin or two—but this, this was something else entirely!

The heat rolling off the entire location was more than enough to make him sweat, even though he was wearing clothing that helped with the location—light colors and a sturdy pair of boots…

A certain presence was still missing from inside his head, but who knew if the presence of another mirage would lure them back out…

“You know… there’s a reason why I avoid this part of Hoenn—like the plague!”

“You think that’ll work?!” he hollered from his position, leaning on one side of his Glastrier who was now nervously pawing the ground because holy shit the air within the cavern was getting uncomfortably warmer now due to the rising heat haze coming from the four Pokémon—two Fire-types and two that knew some kind of Fire-type attack.

“It only got colder, apparently!”

This was just him observing, because even though he was immune to the cold, his cousin wasn’t, obviously referenced by the reaction the four Pokémon did when they approached to shield her from the arctic wind blowing through the place.

Ugh… why did shit have to be like this?

A few moments later, what appeared to be a mass of icicles—of multiple sizes, mind, not just one single uniform one—formed from the same direction where the wind was blowing from before hurtling towards where they—

Lars knew exactly whose tactic this was and yelled, making a mad dash forward and attempting to stave off the incoming attack with his own conjured icicles—which were smaller than the ones that were hurtling their way!

At that moment a familiar mudfish Pokémon’s face appeared from the edge of the pier, wiggling with excitement as his fishing line suddenly went into this dramatic bending gesture, and he had to grab onto it to begin hauling the catch in.

“And my younger brother’s the better fisher, I suck at this shit,” he laughed as the sounds of a line being reeled in erupted from his line.

“He’d have caught several by now.”

timeline: a few months after arriving in Alto Mare, so basically sixteen years old. He has like extremely limited knowledge of that language so RIP his accent

Three of the four Pokémon looked familiar, one of them… looked like a Braviary? Only with different feathers—

“Oh, you bet your ass I’m getting the hell back,” and to prove what he just said he made to rush some distance away—because the way the heat haze would be rising off the flames in waves was going to definitely make him uncomfortable.

All too soon aforementioned heat haze reached where he stood, the four Pokémon trying to scorch the ever-loving shit out of the thickening ice wall—

Only, instead of the ice thinning out, an equally-cold wind blew through the area, chilling the place even further than it already had been.

Clearly someone behind the wall of ever-thickening ice wasn’t taking this well at all.

“Oh, boy.”

Even the frozen equine galloped away, seeking refuge closer to Lars as the heat haze threatened to melt their shaggy mane of frozen ‘hair’.

This was… going to be terrifying in and on itself as he passed on the offer of another drink and paid for not only his, but her drinks as well.

“If… if we’re going to go to the Cave, we need to come up with a plan for it,” he hummed as he got back to his feet. The world wasn’t so spinny, and therefore he was still… sober.

For the most part.

“Because I’m more than sure if we go in there guns blazing—and I mean that figuratively as well as literally—you might end up a frozen popsicle. Or worse.”

Instead of being met with the same, familiar voice in the back of his head—there was nothing but…

Dead. Silence.

Never had been so frightening.

Lars never thought he’d break out into a cold sweat so fast his eyes snapped open as he looked over at his cousin.

“I… shit,” he hissed as he shook his head. “I’m not getting anything…”

It was like the ice wall outside the cavern heard him—and in response the already-thick ice grew even thicker than it already had been.

“What—what the fuck?!” he exclaimed as he saw a new layer of ice forming on top of the already-existing layer that was… there.

“Do… do you really have to incinerate the ice?” he grumbled some time later, already mentally preparing himself for the fucking heat wave…
