This kind of thing was much more tame than the Mantine Surfing contest, but in the end, Marilyn found both to be just as amusing. One peaceful to the mind, and one baneful to the body but invigorating to the soul. Removing her phone from her pocket, she pulled up her granddaughter Yumi Hasegawa's contact and sent a message.[break][break]

"AT STLA TEAPORT BEACH. IF you WANT TO MEE MTME."

Nodding and sparking a cigar, she stood with her cane embedded in the wet sand. Not too far out, just about up to her ankle. Motioning for her Frillish to go and find her something, as she saw so many people diving.. she wanted to participate, but if she couldn't run, she certainly could not dive that deep. Floating was her forte, rather.[break][break]

As for the Frillish, it saw a sparkle in the sand deep below..[break][break]

"Don't look at me like that, little one," she said to one of the event operators, slipping on a life jacket and dropping her cane, ".. let me tell you a little something.[break][break]

Letting gravity do its wonders, Marilyn flopped onto the back of one of the Mantine, profusely turgling as she felt the water splash against her seventies-styled bathing suit.[break][break]

"Don't care how old I am, don't care how frail I look," she took a deep breath, staring to the azure horizon, ".. I'm gonna be the oldest bitch in history to do a Magikarp Splash. Stories will be written of me and everything, but your staring.. your staring is free. Don't make me charge for it, dear."[break][break]

Holding on with all of her might, the sensations of burning and screaming of her muscles numbed by a cocktail of painkillers, she squealed as the Mantine headed toward a giant wave. As it jumped into the skies, all she could do was attempt what she was sure many believed impossible for someone of her caliber.[break][break]

“Him and I will have it soon, then,” she nodded in response, taking another deep swig of her tea, “.. perhaps that is what he needs- something to make his life a little less dull.”[break][break]

At the grin that followed her granddaughter’s statement, she could not help but feel her eyes twinkle in exhilaration. If one thing was true about Marilyn outside of being an ancient serial killer, it was that business was one, if not the ultimate interest of hers.[break][break]

“An Empire, you say? Dear,” she chuckled in delight, “.. and here I thought I’d be the top dog after my release. Your ambitions make me feel.. Well, pride would be an absolute understatement.”[break][break]

Tilting her head at the tablet, for she had not seen technology of that caliber outside of a typical cell phone, she looked at the ideas sprawled upon it.[break][break]

“We played mahjong all the time in the Kantonian prison, up until one of the girls filled up a sock with the tiles and bashed a guard’s head in,” she laughed, “.. but I’ve always loved it, even if it’s been a while since I’ve played.”[break][break]

Taking another cut of the dessert and splitting it in half, she shakily held a piece up to her Frillish’s lips and then to her own.[break][break]

“And Slateport for the new Hasegawa Empire’s first expansion? There are so many places where you can pick from there, now,” she closed her eyes and blushed, lost in thought, “.. that’s where I was born, dear. Have you looked at properties yet?”

Though her mind was deteriorating with age, she could sense how her two beloved underbosses interacted with each other that there was.. some kind of underlying presence there. Perhaps the two poisoners had knocked over some vials after slamming one another down on the table- either in lust or in vitriol. She wished not to assume, but the thought led her to chuckle under her breath. She assumed anyway that it was the latter.[break][break]

“It’s been quite a long time since I’ve spilled the milk,” she motioned to her Frillish, shooting a wink at Theo in the process, “.. other than the Ducklett. Bashful, I know.”[break][break]

It was an intriguing art speaking of war. She felt pity for those who existed in Rocket’s shadow rather than projected grief- but in her eyes, speaking of those who were designated enemies was enlightening. Much more enlightening, she assumed, than if she were to exist on the other side of the coin.[break][break]

But they were serious, now- and she had many responsibilities, not only to her ranking but to her grandchildren who had existed in the ranks long before her.[break][break]

“The frontlines for you too, dear? I’m sure many won’t wish me to, but I’d love to fight beside you. Just like we did in pursuit of the light stone,” she twiddled her cane, watching the Frillish contain its fresh pluck, “.. but what is it we want, other than for the league to finally bend its knee? What is it.. both of you want from this, personally speaking?”[break][break]

She raised a curious eyebrow, grin intact.[break][break]

“Cogs’ll only do so good without oil. Buttered up is better, my dears, like a biscuit.”

The thought that her other grandchild was not pursuing business the way she and Yumi had been was all the more unsettling. She wished not to believe him to be the black sheep of the family, but the mannerisms provoked by speaking of him made her think the young woman before her was a few leagues ahead with those notions. At least he was keeping business with the family somewhat, however.[break][break]

“He’s devout to Rocket like the rest of us, is he not? That could be it, dear,” she smiled, sticking her fork into the dessert, “.. some men are far too worried to communicate what they are made to encounter. Dirty work and all that, he may be embarrassed.”[break][break]

If that were true, there was no need to be embarrassed in her presence. Marilyn had seen it all in her time in prison and before- it was how she made the prison and all the other women serving their sentences her pawns. But she loved her pawns, as they were the only ones to keep her immersed in the real world and the passage of time.. With equal exchanges and benefits[break][break]

Now, Yumi could be that and so much more, as she was special. “Thank you, dear,” she responded in delight, plopping her cut piece between her dentures, “.. as long as our casino and tea house stay afloat, and we remain devout, our sect of the family should be able to thrive- all frills. You’re a hard-working woman- keeping my blood alive.”[break][break]

The blood of her grandfather, too, despite all the transgressions. He was always a hard worker, especially in delegation.[break][break]

“I hope Rocket recognizes that about you, too- our renowned strength and vigor.”

"Good, that's good," she responded first to Hitoshi, dotting any remnants of her joyous tears away with a handkerchief, ".. sounds like a plan, puppy. Don't forget to hone your teeth, I'll be ready before you know it."[break][break]

There was only so much catching up she could do in the fleeting time; though she felt a pang of sadness in her heart, being that she also picked up that her dear grandchild wanted some alone time, she trusted that whatever he needed to tend to would be of use. And besides, that gave her even more opportunity to dig her loving claws into every facet of Yumi and learn of all that had been deprived.[break][break]

"I would love a tour, dear," she smiled, willingly taking to her arm without further thought, ".. this is quite the beautiful place you've got here. If I had come here in my twenties, I'm sure I would have taken home the jackpot!"[break][break]

Sending off Hitoshi with a shaky wave of her hand and a wink, she leaned in closer to her granddaughter, her heart beating rapidly in joy. There was not an inkling in her mind that led her to believe she would not be safe in the city of sin. All of those thoughts of peering eyes and ears were trivial now that she had arrived after decades of being a dreamer in captivity.[break][break]

"You better keep that one around, dear. He's one of the best of the best," she whispered to her softly, before she whipped her head in the opposite direction to cough, ".. and I am so happy you two found each other. With that look in his eyes of care, you've surely got it made- never take someone that stands so closely to your side for granted."[break][break]

She would never make that mistake again.

There was a certain charm that came with being in the presence of Theo's, partially due to elder naivety, but mostly due to the subtle knowing of their shared interests in poisons. An eyebrow raised she did not catch, for her thoughts and opinions of Elisabeth Fiorelli could not be swayed easily yet at all; ultimately, she wished for more men to fear powerful women in the world. Through the power she knew the feminine underboss took upon with the taking of her title and torch, it let her live vicariously through another than had not had her life taken.[break][break]

"Oh, my dear Elisabeth, the business has been running impeccably," she nodded, a cough straightening out her cane, ".. so much money to spoil my grandchildren with.. and so much more. And not quite, we were talking about Beckett here's muscles. Ha!"[break][break]

Looking out at the sloshing of the water, the thoughts of everything sloshed together in her ancient mind; her memory was surely deteriorating faster than any of her counterparts, so much that she could not remember what led her to request either of their summons for just a moment. Her nails clicked against her cane as a Ducklett landed nearby in the water, which she was quick to fire ammunition into through the barrel of her cane. A fresh meal for later.[break][break]

The blood splatter ignited the old lamp in her mind, flickering effervescently. "Heard some war is imminent," she said with a smile, bouncing her eyes between the two and her Frillish tending to the newly deceased, ".. both of you will surely be taking part, yes? Or are you going to leave all the slaughter for your dearest granny to tend to?"[break][break]

Perhaps souls were what the light stone needed to hatch. Her curiosity about that big glowing orb could wait for just a moment, their lives meant far more than that, now. Not due to titles, but due to admiration.

Her gaze wavers upward from your officer's belt of weaponry and pokeballs alike- only to catch that you've been staring at the various teacups and pots on display. Your words seem to calm her slightly, but only slightly, as you've finally mentioned indulging in tea.[break][break]

"Fine, as you wish." She says, guiding you to the displays you've already inspected from afar.[break][break]

What she grabs, and what you had seen while she was focused on your belt, appears to be an unmistakable poisoner's pot. Oddly enough, this one happened to already have contents inside.[break][break]

"This is one of my special teas, dear. It does not lose its flavor at room temperature."[break][break]

She pours both you and herself a cup- hoisting the pot's handle with a finger when pouring yours, but holding it freely when pouring hers. She maintains eye contact with you the entire time but closes her eyes and maintains a smile as she places the kettle next to the sink.[break][break]

"And if you want to hear what's been going on, you better get comfortable.. it's quite the story to tell."

Death to the old man was a concept to be refuted. Of course it was, it was absolutely unsurprising to hear that he had likely amassed even more power than he already retained amidst their shared youth- the very quality that once drew her in, once provoking love as it did lust. The love that she still retained for the man after all these years would be something he would inevitably use against her if she were to pursue the spilling of his blood, as were the erratic emotions that led her to wish to plunge the knife inside. Yumi was right, she had far too much catching up to do to resign her newfound freedom so early.[break][break]

Yet, the words that followed the discouragement brought a tear to her eye, answered by a shaky blotting of a handkerchief. "Oh, my dear granddaughter. You are most certainly right," she moved to advance in search of a loving embrace, dropping her support in the process, ".. my damn cane. Chamo.. pick it up, chop-chop."[break][break]

The ghost of tea levitated forward to bring the handle back into the tears of her ancient palms.[break][break]

"I worried the world would be too far changed when I'd come crawling back into it.. that none of you would ever dream of speaking to an old crone like myself," she said as another salty droplet manifested, ".. how right I was in some things, and how wrong I was in others.. if I cry too hard I may croak, my old heart is filled with so much joy in hearing that, my dear."[break][break]

Delights allowed her to shelve the wish to meet, or better yet save her sons- perhaps they were too far gone, too far involved in the affairs of her ex-husband. They never did come crawling in to meet her after the shackles had been placed on her once smooth skin. She never got to be the mother she wished to be. But now, now was the time to be the grandmother and live that life she always dreamed of having return- to the good ones, even if they did not share her exquisite blood and genes.[break][break]

"I'm no stranger to sticking it to the man, Hitoshi-kun! You'll see me out there," she chuckled, smoke billowing from her nostrils, ".. makes me want to take you both shopping for guns and knives.. and all that other fun stuff. I need more gunpowder for this shotgun, dear."[break][break]

It was only an assumption to think that her two grandchildren, one bound by blood and one simply by earned respect, would enjoy the same things that she did- they were both involved in Team Rocket, after all.[break][break]

"So Team Rocket has given you both what you've longed for, then? Taking care of you in every which way?" she asked, ".. that makes me love em' even more if so."[break][break]

In her absence, they better have.

"I couldn't have said it better myself!" She responded enthusiastically. Youth was, truly, wasted amongst fools- the chairman of the prison, the guards that were considered his 'immortal' underlings, all those that thought it was in their best interest to try and short-hand their beloved granny. Such was an inevitable process of life, assuming that they all would make it that far. But Marilyn would go to any length possible to feel her mind and soul float out of her elderly body and into the shell of someone as beautiful as she once was.[break][break]

All to live on with those who had not wasted their youth- the ones that she had loved above all, the ones she considered her honorary children and grandchildren. And of course, those bound to her by blood that did not continue to stray.[break][break]

"Oh, dear Kazu, it's okay! Your little beary-boo is just so cute, even with its taunts." That was not a lie- it was just so precious, so vibrant with all of its colors and grins it possessed in its excitement. Had it been someone she had grown to dislike, her feelings would be different. But it was an innocent or perhaps not-so-innocent creature.[break][break]

Holding onto her newfound grandchild's arm with delight, and all the more exhaustion, she soon collapsed beside him. It wasn't the most painful feeling in the world, as it would have been outside of the simulation.. but it felt defeating, to say the least. The last time she tried to crawl up some stairs it didn't end well, so as she watched his crawling, all she did was sit and look up to hear or see anything this rather redundant-feeling reality had to offer. She plucked up a piece of the trail mix and ate it like popcorn at a movie theater, too.[break][break]

What was the central circle? Was it.. a metaphor for something? Her companion seemed to be exhibiting distaste, or rather upset, at the sound- but it was all so confusing.[break][break]

"My central circle is my family," she said raspily, spitting empathetic phlegm as she deduced it to be an insult as per Kazu's reaction, ".. you aren't my family, dear voice. Just a silly little thing that thinks it's hot shit because it made it up the stairs nobody else could."[break][break]

And then it all went fuzzy. Being that she was desperately attempting to keep a mental notebook of what she had seen, she figured it would be wise to find Kazu and transfer it onto paper. Surely he would remember more than she ever could. Taking off the headset and placing it on a nearby table with the help of those who conducted such experiments, and taking her midday pills, she giggled with delight.[break][break]

"That was so delightful," she said, ".. odd, but delightful!"

Marilyn could not help but wonder what it would have been like had she died while serving her sentence; would it have been that another underling would have felt the power that came from the light stone upon catching it, or would it have fallen into the hands of those who licked boots? There were, of course, intrusive thoughts that led her to wish to sneak in and take the stone for herself.. but all the young ones could run faster than she ever could, and surely that would lead to ending up in a ditch somewhere.[break][break]

It was just so curious how it felt, feeling power tenfold in her hands that had previously been deprived in her far-away youth. Being that she was a people-pleaser when it came to those she grew fond of, especially when it came to the organization's hierarchy, she knew it was best to repress those feelings. All for the glory of Team Rocket, yadda-yadda, she knew that if she stole it, it would only be a matter of time until her certain death. If not for murder, for old age.[break][break]

She wanted to see all the good youth be happy instead, which hopefully would last a whole lot longer than her well-medicated heart. Visits with the stone of draconic truths and learning more about it were all she truly needed at the end of the day- they wouldn't hurt, they would, if anything, give even more eyes to know that it was being well-kept.[break][break]

"Theo, Theo, Theo..! Good evening, my dear," she said raspily amidst her approach, ".. I've been walking around these waters every day, and I still find myself almost falling in each time.. all of you are so lucky to have muscly legs."[break][break]

The repressed part of her wanted to hop up and down in tears and beg him to show 'what was left' of Kyurem once more. In looking her youth in the eyes came a wish to fall back into it, but those possibilities were shed far too long ago. It would be unwise.[break][break]

"Is my sweet Elisabeth coming, too? She always gives such good, loving, new perspectives.. I was just like her when I was young, you would have fallen in love with me with a single sight! All the men did, dear.. I was unbelievably beautiful."

The door to the back room appears to be painted a bright red and cracked ever so slightly open. Coincidentally enough, a cooing baby can slightly be heard from within. But in all of your looking around, she seems focused on that officer belt of yours.
