Nereus could see truth and disposition in the young idol's words. It was even enough for him to break his firm posture and become more relaxed. In that aspect... yes, Jade seemed to be one of the best.

"I'm glad I heard that, buddy. Above all, it's very important to have confidence in what we do. That's what makes us the best!"

Now he was acting like he was some kind of ancient sage or something. For a moment he remained silent, patient and listening to the boy, then he was surprised by his attitude for remembering the restaurant's order. The old man was so excited that he forgot they were in a food setting.

"Oh of course! I really like aphrodisiacs, but I don't think it's appropriate. So, feel free to order whatever you want!" he hesitated for a moment, but could not resist the typical charms of his homeland. "You know what? I'm going to order one of those oyster potions! They remind me of home."

Speaking of his homeland, Nereus continued the conversation by asking Jade if he had ever been to Unova or Alola or if he already knew some of the traditions there.

Josh was very kind to have accepted Nereus' proposal about Horsea meeting his Kingdra. Not only that, but it would be a unique opportunity for the businessman to also get to know the Pokémon gym, its structure, operation and perhaps even take part in a challenge - even if that is not the main reason.

Unlike that time, Nereus wore more clothes although they are not as formal. He thanked Josh's team for the pleasant welcome, then waved to the boy and his Pokémon with a groovy call.

"HEY BUDDY, NEREUS HERE!" like a real child.

He was all silly about that wonderful place. The water, the scenery, the energy, the Pokémon... everything had a lot to do with Josh, but Nereus imagined that it wasn't even a third of what Mauville's gym could be. Finally, he released little Horsea to speed up the meeting with Keiga, the Kingdra.

It could be said that Mera didn't feel comfortable at first, perhaps intimidated by the size of the creature in front of her.

Quickly the conversation began to shift its tone towards Nereus. He saw a small opportunity there and he doesn't usually miss a single one! Although he was still in doubt about the woman's real identity, even with that evidence, to talk about business he needed as much fidelity as possible.

"Hulbury, hm? Looks cool to me... I've seen some pictures." he put his hand on his chin. "Milady, I would love to talk more about business with you, I believe you have given me a glimpse of an opportunity and that is great, but it would be interesting to discuss this in a more appropriate place. We could arrange a meeting if it is not a problem for you... "

He was really excited, although he would be even happier if this opportunity gave him the chance to roam the seas of Hoenn.

"Uh, Mirio? Yes, it's my Gholdengo! His life story is very long, he's been with me since..." then he swallowed the words. Nereus tried to disguise what he intended, even Gholdengo tried to get the attention of the woman and her Pokémon in another way... he desperately did little involuntary tricks with his coins.

"Oh look at this guy, always wanting to be the center of attention HAHAHAHA." It could still see his embarrassed face. "Listen Milady, I hope I'm not taking up too much of your time, but you've been in Hoenn longer, could you be my guide on a tour of the Museum, what do you think? Maybe if you tell me what the most expensive fossil here..."

Which of course he wouldn't try to buy. Right?

Things in Hoenn were not going as expected for Nereus' business. His cruise ship company encounters serious difficulties in establishing a profitable route over these seas and he does not know who to deal with to resolve this problem. He thought he was being cursed by the sins of the past and the ocean was angry with him. For all the stress, the calm of a hot spring could help.

Wearing only a towel around his waist, the giant rested in the warm water while his Simipour happily helped by bringing body oil to his master. Nereus realized that he was not alone there, but the vapor mist was so thick that he could not see who was beyond his vision. He could smell an indiscreetly delicious smell, even he couldn't explain it. Whispers and grunts, finally curiosity made him break the ice with a talk.

"I bet it was a good fight, hm." he said in his groovy voice through the mist that occasionally revealed his gaze fixed on the horizon with a smile. The conversation was just an assumption based on the odor he smelled. If the other guy was friendly on his initiative, Nereus would have no problem approaching him.

"No problem, buddy." he received the young artist without ceremony or sophistication. The huge man got up from his seat and welcomed his company not only with a handshake, but also with an unexpected hug. "Ah come here! It's a pleasure, Jade. Call me Nereus, no formalities here hm"

A real bear hug, if Jade allowed it.

The man's gruff voice, although surprisingly elegant, attracted the attention of the other customers there. Nereus had good manners, but he didn't use them often. His rustic manner was always his trademark and was perhaps an asset for business. Anyway, after settling down he directed the conversation towards a more serious path, after all talking about business is always an area where he remains more restrained, even if a little naughty.

"So... you want to sing in my precious Golden Treasure, hm?" he spoke with a smile on his face and raising a glass of cold water to wet his throat afterwards. "You know... the competition is very big. My company may not be the most famous in the world or the biggest, but we have a name to uphold. That's why we only hire the best." Nereus, after drinking a sip of water, shot a penetrating look at his interviewee.

"Do you think you're one of the best?" He smiled.

Let's face it, this succession of intimidating questions is not something you expect in a "job interview", but that was Nereus' negotiating style. He may be a laid-back and slightly grotesque man, but he knows how to act with wit and pressure at the right moments. Deep down he knows that his attitude could end up causing him to miss a possible excellent opportunity. Who knows...

On a slightly warm late afternoon in Slateport, Nereus was in a sophisticated seaside restaurant waiting for his company for dinner. The businessman, owner of a cruise company abroad, was contacted by his team because there was an artist interested in the proposal for the cruise's traditional maritime event: a celebration for the Lunar New Year.

Through the company's website, artists from all over the world can follow the entire planning and respective dates for events on the high seas. Unfortunately, for them, on the last day the main attraction has been the same for over five years, however, the company always opens spaces for other shows throughout the week. There are seven days of celebration for customers on a route that leaves from Castelia City in Unova, to the typical and oriental Malie City in Alola. This year of the dragon promises great emotions!

"Mr. Onassis, your company is already on its way. Would you like to place an order now?" the waiter politely warned the businessman.

"Nah. I'll wait for him. Thanks." he replied without much refinement, he is a man who values sophistication, but does not act like one. ".. hm-- wait! You have this one..." he pointed to the menu "the aphrodisiac... with tentacles and shells or something..."

"ugh... O-- of course Mr. Onassis."

"Perfect! They're my favorites HAHAH."

"Oh, can I?" he responded to the boy's offer. So Nereus politely greeted Megalo the Milotic and mounted the sea creature of stunning beauty. "

Milotic actually had a very strong and resilient body for that man's size. The saddle on him was secure enough to perform quick and precise movements, but without losing elegance. Nereus could almost feel as if he were in one of his speedboats on the sea.

"I can get used to this, hm" his pleasure was undeniable. Mera tried her best to keep up, but she was still too young to reach Milotic's excellence. A look of envy grew on her face, but it wasn't the only face that reflected under the water. Suddenly a face showing a dark smile emerged from the surface and jumped into the sea, ejecting water behind its shell.

"No Way... a Cloyster!" exposed the man. "C'mon Mera, bring it to daddy!"

Obeying her master's implicit command, Horsea, although a little tired, expelled a well-aimed Dragon Pulse at the Cloyster, seeking to hit his face, however, the bivalve Pokémon was faster and closed its shell immediately, falling quickly into the water. Mera felt nervous at such audacity in blocking her shot. Then Cloyster opened his shell laughing at the situation. Shell Smash was the best answer he could find to then invest in attacks against the cheeky Horsea.

"That one's hard to fall... Try one more shot, Mera!"

Perhaps removing the strength of his shell hadn't been the best option. Although he used an ice strike to hit Horsea, she evaded with an Agility and then aimed another Dragon Pulse to knock him down.

"My turn!" Nereus took advantage of the fact that Cloyster was weak from the blow and threw a Pokéball at him, hoping that all of this would be enough to capture. Despite everything, Mera had done an excellent job! Nereus was contemplative about what Josh had said a while ago.

"You know what, Josh... I think your Keiga can teach my Mera many things and make her even stronger. We can schedule this meeting, what do you think?"


Catching Cloyster

"I see..." replied Nereus. "You must be a very important woman for your country. I've only been to Galar once. It would even be interesting to establish a route there for my cruises. In case you didn't know, I own a 'small' cruise franchise called Golden Treasure, which sails between Unova and Alola to more tropical destinations."

He always spoke of business with a twinkle in his eye, although it was fleeting to recall his intentions for Hoenn. Hoenn is a tropical continent too, but Nereus is having serious problems bringing his franchise here. For the time being, he's keeping this information hidden from the female royalty, but perhaps there's a gap in that tour to take care of business, hm.

"Did you say something about the archaeology department?" he asked with a slightly devious pretense. "Hahaha there's nothing Mirio can't easily 'hide' with a coins trick, right pal?" he concluded with a playful tone. And of course it was all just a bad joke, he really wouldn't do that... maybe. Gholdengo certainly wouldn't mind, he was already cracking his knuckles.

"Hmm... ok, that's a problem." said Nereus after hearing Josh's proposal. "Unfortunately the only pokémon capable of supporting me to swim isn't here with me. He usually stays on the boat where I live, protecting..."

The pokémon he was referring to was a Dhelmise. The huge anchor was responsible for keeping the boat steady on Slateport's docks.

"But I don't mind swimming alongside my Horsea! I just can't guarantee that we'll be able to keep up with you and your Sharpedo HAHAHA"

So they both headed out into the bay as agreed. Horsea was a little nervous and intimidated by the Dark-type, but Nereus ensured her comfort by swimming calmly alongside her. Suddenly he got carried away and ended up leaving Horsea behind for a while. In the meantime, Mera was surprised by a friendly but showy and competitive pokémon who, like the pair, was simply swimming nearby. Simipour tried to get along with Horsea anyway, but as a defense mechanism she used a Smokescreen to ward him off.

"Hey! What's going on back there?" Turning around, Nereus noticed a puff of dark smoke slowly dissipating to reveal the ape pestering his pokémon. "Come on, Mera, show your power!" Then, encouraged by her mentor, Horsea fired a Dragon Pulse at the ape's face, confused by the smoke, and knocked it out with the blast.

"I can't miss my chance, right?" Said the big man, then threw a pokéball at Simipour. "I hope it works out... I really need a species like that to look after my boat."

"Yeah... I tend to have a bit of an affair with aquatic pokémon, but not necessarily the water type, if you know what I mean..."

Nereus showed off his little Horsea on the edge of the pier as he braced himself with his strong arms to climb up in a single bound. "Nereus, Nereus Onassis by the way." He held out his hand for a greeting and was shocked at the idea that he was talking to an official gym leader. "Impressive! I haven't met many gym leaders in my life, although some of them are my clients out there..."

In the meantime, Josh spent a few minutes rescuing a Buizel, a maneuver that left Nereus very impressed. In the end, the pokémon stayed with the boy. "What a feat! It's full of pokémon around here, hm? Look over there!" To the right in the sea, Horsea was trying to get rid of a bothersome presence. A Wattrel was disturbing the water-type on the surface, perhaps it was thinking that it would be eaten...

"That's Mera. Listen, she's not so good at swimming yet, but her real talent is at aiming. Her aim is as fast as you, buddy. Check it out. Hey Mera! Fire! HAHAHA" he brandished loudly with a certain pride.

Horsea, realizing that her trainer trusted her, concentrated and focused on the flying opponent that occasionally crossed the surface. She decided that this was the right moment to attack, so all it took was one well-aimed Water Pulse bullet to bring the bird down.

"It's Gone! HAHAHAH Well done, Mera!" Finally, Nereus threw an empty pokéball at the fallen bird. "Well, I hope it works... that nice shot would be a waste, huh?"
