Merlyn found it hard to remove himself from Toshiaki. As they sat, his body leaned in towards the other, eagerly listening to the man's answer to his question. "You live here!?" He repeated with a slight tone of shock. What were the chances that they'd meet again in Hoenn. "I'd love to see you run again," He commented genuinely. His speed was a spectacle to behold. "Oh! I arrived here a couple days ago." Merlyn noticed the Furret was still interested in his leftover, he couldn't finish them anyway. So he pushed the plate of half-eaten sandwich towards the Furret, gesturing that it was welcomed to have it. "I just finished an interview for a job under a well known scientist in this region." He added before continuing, "Do you know those space rifts that's been forming all over Hoenn? I came here to study it!" He said excitedly, eyes shimmering whenever he's talking about a subject of interest.

it was a late afternoon and the sun was setting. merlyn was just strolling around the city to take some fresh air after having spent the whole day sleeping, still adjusting for his jet lag. a small feline, a Litten, accompanied his side as he wandered.

[break][break]as he was merrily enjoying his time with his partner, he halt in his steps. the litten also stopped. they bought heard it. there were something producing a weird humming noise. being a curious person, he wasted no time following the source of the humming noise.

he made his way to the outskirts, just outside the city. there were a small spatial rift formation. this excited, shocked, and scared merlyn all at once. he had heard of formations such as this occurring all over hoenn, but he did not expect to come across it personally and randomly out of the blue. "Hiss," The litten hissed at the rift, knowing of its danger and urged his trainer to stay away. "It's okay," but merlyn did not heed to its warnings. The curious young man approached the rift, not touching it, but closely observing how it distorts the space around it. A smile formed across his face. "How interesting,"

merlyn could smell the salty sea in the breeze that played with his hair. the sun was shining, warm to the skin in the ever growing cold weather. merlyn just arrived in hoenn and he wanted to enjoy himself for awhile. he was already in lilycove, he might as well spend a good time at the beach.

with the cheery smile that he wears wherever he goes. he greeted a man behind a stall. he thought that it would be nice to have something to snack on while he roamed around. nothing like a treat. "i think i'll just get a hot dog," he said after ruminating over the menu. the worker quickly prepared him a nice juicy hot dog between soft buns and mustard and ketchup on top. "Thanks!" He smiled as he passed over some money for the hot dog.

The hot dog was still warm in hand, and it smelled delicious. Merlyn walked by a street that overlooked the beach and the ocean. He took a bite and flavors danced on his taste buds. "Mmm," he moaned, happy with the hot dog and enjoyed the moment to himself. But unfortunately, it would soon change as there were other creatures who desires the juicy hot dog.

to say that merlyn was excited would be an understatement. he was really looking forward for this day that he was not able to get a proper sleep the night before. thankfully he could always rely on a cup of coffee in the morning to give him the push he needed for the day.[break][break]


he made his way to where he was instructed to go. he was also quite early than the scheduled time. about fifteen minutes early. he looked around the area as he eagerly waited.[break][break]

despite his excitement he was also really nervous. he knew that first impression could mean everything and he did not want to mess this up. he was about to meet a head researcher in hoenn. this could be his big opportunity to climb the ladders and realize his dreams.[break][break]

as he was trapped in his mind, he noticed that his hand was shaking. was it the nervousness? the excitedness? or the coffee? or perhaps all three of them combined. he stretched his hands, spreading his fingers out and then clenching them back into a fist. "It's gonna be alright," He repeated to himself. He could feel the trembling in his voice.

The man was oblivious to his surrounding when he daydreamed. So much so that when the Furret appeared what seemed to be out of nowhere he jumped in his seat. "Aah!" He wailed in shock.[break][break]

Not long after its trainer came to catch it before the Furret can approach any closer to the oh so desired half eaten sandwich. "Whew," He exhaled in relief, recognizing that it was just a Pokemon curious of his left over. He nodded at the trainer's apology with an awkward smile, feeling quite embarrassed of himself as well, being scared of such fuzzy creature.

Merlyn thought that would be the end of their interaction but surprisingly, his name came out of the trainer's mouth. His eyes widened and took another close look at the other man. He could recognize those bright lit eyes anywhere. [break][break]

"Toshi?" He questioned, more so to himself. When the realization dawned onto him, he smiled wide. "Toshi!" He leaped up from his seat, thrilled to see a familiar face. "What are you doing here?" He asked. Being a very intimate person he welcomed himself to give the other man a tight hug, long before he released Toahiaki from his captivity.

the sun was high in the sky and the city was busy with people and POkemon alike on the streets. Merlyn just finished a couple interviews to be a lab assistant for famed head scientists. He was not sure how well he did but one thing for sure he was a nervous wreck during the interviews. Stuttering and mispronouncing words were out of the question.[break][break]

He was then sitting on one of the outside tables of a cafe, with a cup of iced coffee and half eaten sandwich laid in front of him. He was exhausted and somehow he did not have that much of an appetite despite having not eaten anything that day. [break][break]As he sat on the table he watched the people that passed by. He would noticed a group of people or couples, co-workers, family members, friends, seeing people talking and laughing together made him feel small and lonely in the big bustling city. He was foreign to the country and he knew no one there. Feeling lonely was something bound to happen. He immediately cleared his head of those thoughts, and instead decided to worry about how his interviews went.
