This was bad. This was VERY bad. Rushing forth, Mitsuru grabbed Rex by his collar and pulled him back through the doorway. Okay! They could still salvage this! They just had to close the door, lock it up again, aaaaaaaaaaaaaand they broke the door to get inside. Ah. Erm. That is... Okay! There was absolutely no way to salvage this.

"Rex, I don't want to alarm you, but I'm pretty sure you just did a REALLY BAD thing!" The mystic explained, her panic evident in her tone. At the same time, her hands desperately fumbled with her belt, searching through the Pokeballs hanging from her waist. "I don't think we can beat this thing... Ack! Come on, where are you, where are you? Not here, not here, not here, please be here please be here please be-- HERE!"

Ripping the Pokeball from her belt, she tossed it forth, and out came here Klefki.

"QUICK! KEIZO! FAIRY LOCK THAT DOORWAY!"

Sure enough, the jangling keys complied, the shimmering shape of a lock forming in the doorway. That quick thinking managed to stop the ghastly spirit for about a second. It might've stopped it for more, but frankly, Mitsuru didn't stay around to check. Instead, she grabbed Althus by the arm and immediately began to run.

"Heck, heck, heck...!"

"Um."

How was she supposed to respond to that? Seriously! She basically just said "Hey, you freaking idiot! Why did someone as hecking useless as you decide to volunteer to do humanitarian work? Are you stupid?!". And what was she supposed to say? "Huh, I didn't really think about that, but I guess you're right! Yes, I am a real big dumb moron, aren't I! Thank you for telling me. It certainly made me feel much better about myself!"

Ugh. Kids these days. She remembered back in the day, when they said "Please", and "Thank you", and "Hello, miss! You look very pretty today!". Nowadays, all they did was watch Pikitok and smoke vapes and be mean to her for no reason... Oh well. She might as well try and be polite, even if she knew it wouldn't be reciprocated.

"Well, it was just the right thing to do, y'know? Helping people and Pokemon is just... good! It's a good thing to do!" She explained, leaving out all the arguably very ungood things she also planned to do while she was here. "And it makes me feel good, and it makes them feel good, too. So, I'm here for good reasons! Really, it's just very good all around."

Idly, she glanced over to the scientists as they filtered into the carrier with their modern-looking laptops and important-seeming files in tow. All very fancy, all very expensive... Then, after a too-long pause, she looked back to June and cleared her throat.

"Ah, what about you? Why the heck are you here at Sea Mauville, anyhow? I didn't think the Rangers would let teenagers on dangerous missions like this."

No, that wasn't sarcastic. Yes, she meant that one-hundred percent sincerely.

Alright, her attempts to nail the Magikarp Splash had been... Difficult, to say the least. So, time to go back to basics. Back to the Primarina Twist! She'd proven she could do it once, so surely, she could do it again?

Please let her do it again, she saw a little purple bow tie on the prize list, and she just KNEW it would look good on Trubby.

Well, this was, um...

...Not what she'd expected. When they were told they were going in to "rescue endangered wildlife" and "help with conservation efforts", she'd been expecting to find Dratini, or Goomy, or something of that sort. Instead, Mitsuru was met with a veritable flood of Grimer, packed so densely into the defunct garbage compactor that she couldn't even see the floor. Were these really the Pokemon they'd been sent to protect?

No, no, she shouldn't judge a book by its cover. For all she knew, these Grimer could be perfectly nice! Sure, they weren't easy on the eyes, and okay, they constantly made gross squelching sounds, and yeah, they smelled unbelievably rancid, but... Uh... Well... They were... Uh...

"...Oh, bother..."

DESIREE BLOOMS

The future was seen, and it was bleak. One look into her Dusclops' solemn eye told Mitsuru all she needed to know about what would come next. Sinking. Struggling. Drowning.

The vague words weighed heavy on her mind, though she wasn't quite sure what they meant. Sinking? What was sinking? Was she sinking? Was the Cave of Origin sinking? Or... Was... Was... Was, was Sootopolis sinking? No. Surely, not. Surely, she was being silly. Surely, there was no way that an entire city could sink into the sea like a stone. There was no way. There was simply no way. That was impossible!

But despite her best efforts to deny it, she simply couldn't. Deep down, she knew the truth: Kyogre was many things, but before anything else, it was divine. And when it came to the Gods, nothing was truly impossible.

No, more than that. Watching Kyogre as it loomed over the Cave of Origin, Mitsuru got the sense that doing so would be utterly trivial for one such as he.

"Uuuuuuuuu... This sucks... This sucks! What are we supposed to do, Ichi? What do I do?"

The Dusclops could offer no answer. Another Pokemon, however, had a more apt suggestion.

"EEP!" Mitsuru flinched, twisting to face the presence behind her. For a second, she was terrified that it was another Paradox Pokemon, a Gouging Fire come to finish her off. Instead, however, what she saw was an Entei. The real one. The true one. The one she'd seen before. Fear melted away, and was quickly replaced with awe. Here it was, one of the sacred beasts of her homeland, standing right in front of her... But no matter how badly she wanted to live in that moment just a while longer, she couldn't. Not in this place, not at this time. "Entei... Right. Right, I need to leave, I need to go, I need, I need to, I..."

She couldn't. She just couldn't. Everyone was fighting for their lives. There was so much at stake. She'd been a coward for so long, but now, she had to be brave.

"I'm sorry! I can't! Not yet!"

Kyogre was looking for something in the Cave of Origin, and looking up at the blue stalactite as it slowly began to come loose, she felt a thread being tugged at the back of her brain. Battered and exhausted and emotionally drained, she couldn't tell what that thread connected to, but that fact that it was there at all was enough to make an assumption. Maybe, just maybe... No. She couldn't doubt herself on this. Kyogre definitely wanted this thing, and if she it to him, then it would definitely stop it.

"Ichi! Bring that thing down!"

It might not've been a smart choice. In fact, it might've been the worst choice she could've possibly made. For his part, the Dusclops did not judge. Instead, he simply channelled his supernatural powers to increase the Gravity upon the stalactite.

Whether or not it was the right thing to do... Well, that would become apparent soon enough.

The Cave of Origin was crumbling. Its walls were coming down. What little sanctuary it provided had been torn away, exposed to the harsh waves and the lashing rain. There was no more safety to be found here. Now, this sacred place had become nothing more than the next objective in this war of faith and blasphemy.

And here Mitsuru was, stuck in the middle of it all.

B-but at least she wasn't alone, right? She was here with Aurelie Lefevre and Leilani Keawe ! The former of who was leaving to go battle a dragon off in the distance, and the latter who'd likely be heading into the fray soon after... Though, really, even if they DID both stay, it wouldn't exactly make much difference against the full force of Kyogre, would it...?

"...Eep."

Having lost what little confidence she had left, the mystic immediately scrambled for cover. She didn't know what to do. What WAS she supposed to do? What could she even possibly do in this situation besides not be here in the first place?!

Clearly, she didn't know, and she wouldn't be able to figure it out herself. So, in this desperate time, it was time to resort to desperate measures. Clutching a Pokeball in her hands, she sent out her Dusclops, the spectre manifesting besides her with a low, dull groan.

"Um, Ichi? Could you use Future Sight and see what I'm supposed to do? Please...? Please..."

It'd be fine! As long as she didn't see any of those water snakes, which she wouldn't, then she'd be fine. But she was going to stick to the shallow part of the sea. Just in case.
