The dreamscape has tried to contain two powerful opposing forces that cannot be balanced and has failed.

Turmoil. The dreamscape around you shifts, jerks, then shatters. You find yourselves standing in some expansive white space with no borders; only chunks of the reality you had just been in float around you, sometimes shifting in color like aberrations on a TV screen. These pieces move in erratic ways and are unreachable and untouchable regardless of what action you take to chase after them.

Blight. The reality of your reality is that you are dreaming and something is wrong. Awareness burns in your throat like absinthe. Deep in your subconscious, your mind is tangling with an understanding that there is an unavoidable choice coming. Time is running out. You know you will lose something regardless of what you choose. What happens now either has severe consequences or none. What are your final words?

She didn't like the loss of sensation the deeper they walked into the shadow. Maybe Cillian felt comfort in the darkness, but she wouldn't be able to relax in it until she had a pokemon that could commune with shadows and offer some kind of guidance. [break][break]

"I will be requesting a meeting with Naomi Sato if our Unown experiment is successful. But I am optimistic we can douse it in shadow." Not that optimism impacted research experiments, but she was confident her first sacrifice to Cillian's shadow methods would work out. [break][break]

She felt the scene threaten to shift around them, which she was thankful for. "There is something so unsettling about the Unown. I wonder how she tolerates their... watchfulness." She wasn't sure how else to label it. But being surrounded by them, even in the simulation, made her feel like she was in the same panopticon as that of the penitentiary.

She felt uninclined to use normal type pokemon because of their limited advantages. She also felt like a lot of canine and feline pokemon were underwhelming in nature. Still, she found herself drawn to the Delcatty that was feasting on some foraged berry in an alleyway. "Drop down there," she instructed, and Cora banked to get closer to the lone pokemon. Perhaps it was the stunning purple color that suited Ameena's aesthetic, or just the visible grace of such a pokemon, but she wanted the Delcatty. Ameena disembarked from Cora in the alleyway and produced a juicy pecha berry for Delcatty's consideration. She clicked her tongue until she got its attention, and she lowered herself to the ground slowly to seem non-threatening. The Delcatty's look of suspicion at Ameena told her that the cat had good instincts. An ideal partner...

The relief is so overwhelming she has to fight tears as he finally kisses her. She pulls him close even though they're already touching, desperate for them to feel like one. He tastes a little like smoke. She isn't sure if her head is spinning or the world is, but she feels anchored underneath him. Several heartbeats later, licking her way into his mouth, she realizes that odd sensation in her chest: she feels safe. [break][break]

It's part of the reason, she tells herself, she doesn't notice the Brute Bonnet encroaching on their moment until the sickly sweet scent of its secreting poison overpowers the gunpowder scent of Montgomery.

"What is that one..." She said as she peered over Cora's wing. It looked shelled. She hadn't seen this one before, but she took that as a negative. She was surrounded by so many competent trainers that she should be familiar with the most powerful by now. It certainly did not give the aura of a deity, though she didn't like how it was perched on a building. It was watching people. "We can keep looking." Cora cawed her confirmation.

The scyther was interrupted in its fleeing by a Capsakid. The newcomer launched razor leaf at the bug. It shouldn't have done much, but the scyther was so weak that it fainted. Capsakid chittered with pleasure. Magearna and Ameena shared a knowing look. That kind of conniving behavior was suitable for their purposes. It was a lot like Espathra. Ameena pulled an oran berry from her bag and clicked her teeth. The Capsakid looked at her suspiciously, then scurried over. "More where that came from," she insisted as it took to the berry like it'd never eaten before.

She isn't fast enough to duck the stun spore. Gardevoir and her are struck by the speedy production of spore from the Breloom, giving her only a moment to dread the impact as he tackles her. She hits the ground hard. Her mind spins, unable to process the last few seconds until his Claydol explodes above them, disintegrating a large metal shard. [break][break]

The tell-tale scent of interdream mist, like raspberries, fills the air around them just before Ameena notices the pink fog blur her vision. "Oh," she says limply, devoid of rage and rendered more aloof than apathetic because of the mist's soothing properties, "there is interdream mist here." Laughter bubbles from her chest and spills from her mouth like a brook, something staggering and improper and deeply unlike her. A soft amusement. [break][break]

She reaches for her pokeball with all the grace stun spore permits and returns Gardevoir to her pokeball, not wanting the pokemon to be trapped in the unfolding scene. It is too unavoidable now, and she does not want to make a mistake with Gardevoir because they're both under its influence. [break][break]

The world around them shifts fluidly. They are no longer on a residential path in Mossdeep surrounded by unconscious bodies. They are on a lush hill, and the sky is not on fire, and there is no distant clamor of war. A light breeze tickles the long grass she lies on, and her peripheral suggests there are countless dark blue-purple pansies surrounding them; her favorite, though her father always thought them ugly and bruise-like. They were resilient flowers, probably the sturdiest of all pansy species. And beautiful. [break][break]

The context of battle slips through her fingers like sand as the interdream mist settles. Montgomery is on her, and she finds herself cradling his face instead of trying to strangle him as she would otherwise. "Hey," she says simply.

"Slower," she instructed. Cora coasted instead, letting Ameena get a better look at the cityscape below. Moving too quickly by any mode made people nervous these days. They feared a terror attack constantly. Corviknight had a dark and intimidating look to them that only added to that anxiety. Air travel made seeking pokemon more effective, but they had to be casual enough about it to avoid unwanted attention.

"Well, it sounds like no loss to try out." She was pleased to hear his attitude towards it was relatively laidback. All things violence and war seemed to be high-pressure affairs throughout the organization, but Temp made it sound like trying out for the school debate team. She liked that he was approachable, and she trusted that his position in Rocket was proof enough that he didn't attitude or demeanor to avoid fights because he could always finish them. [break][break]

Gardevoir teleported around an odd-colored Raichu that continued to try and quick attack her to no avail. Ameena spared some amusement, though she could tell through their bond that Gardevoir felt rather annoyed about this one. [break][break]

"A Sygna Suit after my Genesect project, then. I am unsure who to bond it to. Gardevoir is my most capable, but she fights so well on her own that I do not suspect it will add to her capacity, only mine." Their telepathy kept them in sync anyways. "How did you choose your partner?"

"Little is known about Necrozma. It is powerful and otherworldly." It scares her like Eternatus, but at least Necrozma is contained in Zev's body to some degree or another. Avatarship was difficult for her to parse, still, and she did her best not to look at it too closely lest the questions it raised made her crazy. [break][break]

Ameena followed Gwen and her bright pokemon closely. "I believe there is -" In there path stood a dark Delphox. It was bathed in shadow. "Careful!" The being struck, but Gardevoir used psychic to push it backwards. "This pokemon is going to be very hard to predict." Shadow pokemon always were. They were beasts of war who spoke only in the language of violence, in a dialect none of their species could understand - to stretch the metaphor. But they were unpredictable to their own nonshadow kind which made them hard to predict in combat. [break][break]

Delphox launched shadow rave at Gwen, sending sharp spikes of shadows towards the Ranger.

Her willingness to take on the simulation was a great sign. The RKS was naturally horrifying in many routes, so it was hard to properly prepare folks for. Regardless, it was simulation, so it was necessary for their members to bear its horrors to gain its powers. It offered a lot of opportunity for learning about their universe, strangely enough. And it often led to Paradox pokemon. [break][break]

"Beyond RKS, I recommend regular battling and strategy training. Leaguers, particularly those of a higher rank, are known to offer training courses. I actually recommend you attend one so long as your civilian persona is in tact." She looked forward to seeing what Alison had to offer after a little practice. [break][break]

Her phone went off. She silenced it immediately, but her laboratory demanded her attention. "I must take my leave. But I will pencil you in for a RKS run whenever you have the opportunity. I will do my best to navigate us carefully." Indeed, she did not want to re-experience the hands of god ripping them out of a spaceship. It sounded almost comical, until you were there and experiencing the existential dread yourself without warning.

Really, an excess of power was such a terrible inconvenience. But they both had people to answer to. It was important to get these charged for the war effort. Excuses would not be tolerated. Claydol tanks the hit. Ameena wants to imagine strangling the life out of it, but her tired brain is wracked with guilt and regret and grief and an overwhelming numbness. Duchess is gone. Ameena could not protect Amor's gift after all. Amor was gone, and he had left overnight with only a letter left in his absence. Ameena lost her opportunity with Montgomery and gained nothing in exchange. She is here for Rocket to protect her research interests and she has done nothing but lose everything in the process. Her entire life is losing things over and over and over and over and [break][break]

Claydol's ancient power forces her to look up and see the scattering of fiery metal debris like freckles against the sky. She hadn't even noticed. Her mortality comes to her full force. "Gardevoir," she says softly, and Gardevoir uses life dew on Ameena while Claydol handles the sky. Thankfully, it seems the downfall of debris is not so serious as to require sustained attention. [break][break]

Montgomery's choice to handle the debris before handling her is either an insult to how threatening he finds her or a consequence of his ideals, choosing to handle it rather than flee while she was unaware and easily struck by the deadly debris. She doesn't think about the latter. "You know how this ends," she says, soft but lacking warmth. Her side is coated in her own blood. She feels cold, but now that the wound has closed thanks to Gardevoir, the only ticking clock she feels is that of the battle. [break][break]

She finds she doesn't even care. Why would it matter? Her righteousness, her anger, it didn't change a thing. It doesn't matter. None of it does. What she loses now is immaterial, as much as it hurts her, for it can be regained once she accesses the dream realm. She just has to make it to that point. Nothing else matters. [break][break]

She is unaware of the pink mist curling around her feet, seeping out of a crack in the ground from the earlier use of earth power.
