Pet was overstating things, she felt, but if he had offered, she would have accepted. [break][break]

Her mind raced at his question, but she believed, ultimately, he would have approached her differently if he really thought she was a Rocket. Minimally, if he did believe it, he still wanted her help. She was confident his interest in her potential to fix things was genuine. [break][break]

She would do him one favor in return for his research potential, and that was to tell the truth. "My allegiance lies with the scientific endeavor I have dedicated my life to. It may not be the answer you want to hear, but it is the truth. Everything that happens in this world is immaterial to me so long as I can find my way into the dream realm." Who cared how far-fetched the idea was. It would solve everything. [break][break]

"My allegiance is with the alternate reality I seek to join, Matias. Examining what your mind has been experiencing lately will bring me closer to that goal, and that makes you a dear ally of mine." She spoke slowly, aware this looked crazy to anyone unfamiliar with the unbridled purpose an obsession filled you with.

Maybe it was delusional, but her at-all-costs attitude and Lulu's confidence was a dangerous combination. Ameena was positive they could parse every mysterious detail of the interdream mist in the coming hours just through their will power. As it, and Lunatone, descended, she took a few centering breaths. "We get closer each time," she murmured. "What will we see now?" [break][break]

Then, in a brief tinge of panic, she realized she had to be careful about her thoughts. If this interdream mist played with her subconscious like Musharna's newfound z-move, she was going to get in trouble fast. It was nearly impossible not to think about him (Montgomery James ) and his smile, his swagger, his untouchability. He was a Leaguer, and consequently a temptation she couldn't indulge. She had her work cut out for her to entice him to her side of the aisle, but her efforts needed to be secret. At a time like this, with war looming, it was dangerous to demonstrate a lick of sympathy towards the enemy. [break][break]

She cleared her minds with an instant palette cleanser: Galar. [break][break]

The mist settled around them and Ameena sucked in a deep breath, letting it overwhelm her senses. "I tire of nightmares," she sighed as rivulets of blood poured their way from the misty unknown. For a moment, her potential to create was absent of her mind.

He seemed a little proud of himself. [break][break]

She was used to breaking people, breaking enemy combatants back in her service in Galar and breaking those that stood in the way of her current goals. She felt an urge to knock some sense into the brat, but the only manifestation of it was a twitch of her finger. She had to preserve her civilian ID, though it pleased her that her face as a CEO was not so widespread as to make her instantly recognizable. It gave her a little leeway. [break][break]

Not enough to bust the kid's nose or anything, though. [break][break]

"And you won't." She returns Xurkitree to his pokeball because the giant is a little too unusual and intimidating to be seen roaming Mauville's streets. She turned from the kid easily, dismissive of any threat he could've posed to her, though he seemed to be the brave and rambunctious breed of youth that was exclusive to Rangers.

Truly, it was her fault for thinking anything could go her way today. [break][break]

But she really doesn't see it coming, when he reaches for her arm and drags her. She has no prepared defenses, nothing but a few choice expletives as the sparking distortion consumes them whole and spits them out back into the streets of Mauville. [break][break]

Her breath comes out heaving as she breaks from his grip mid-flight - though they're only about three yards from the ground - and lands roughly. In a moment, their pokemon descend from the rift too, far more controlled. Even her Xurkitree makes it look easy, hanging from the rift with one lengthy limb before plopping onto the ground beside her. [break][break]

With both pokemon free, the rift closes. [break][break]

Ameena has half a mind to tell the kid off for his behavior, but he did help with the troublesome Avalugg, and he'd followed along with her gameplan otherwise. Still. She felt more animosity than gratitude. "That could have ended badly for you," she says instead, brushing herself off.

Have you ever seen a woman eaten by a god?[break][break]

The ice rider is down, the sea god has consumed the dragon-like beast of a woman, and Ameena's lost. The seas have risen to unprecedented heights. She can hardly make out the bodies beneath her in the water, those of allies and those of civilians and those of enemies. [break][break]

She feels it just before it hits; Gardevoir reacts faster and generates an IMPRISON around the two of them midair to protect against the ORIGIN PULSE. She clings close to Gardevoir, heart racing. She's paralyzed by choice. Gods are fighting all around them and the human cost is incalculable. [break][break]

Gardevoir takes them higher into the air but Ameena feels exposed and unsafe, just like she would if she were in the water. "Is there anything left to save?" The question needs an answer, but Gardevoir has none. The two of them are weakened from battle, exhausted, and unable to coordinate well with the mutual distrust between themselves. Ameena feels a seed of worry unfurling in her belly about the well-being of Montgomery, but she cannot afford to check on him. She can barely support herself against the rampaging Kyogre's tantrum.

The other woman takes things in stride, all things considered. Ameena finds her interesting, but Hoenn's filled with interesting characters. "I need a Rowap," she finally says, looking at the various offerings of the shop rather than at the woman herself. "One that is a bit along in its life cycle; seeds tend to disagree with me." [break][break]

A sapling, an adolescent. She liked their early stages, but she might have to start settling for grown ones if she couldn't find them early. Her uncanny ability to kill sprouting seeds disrupted the vision she held for the plants. [break][break]

"But I must ask," she adds, offering the woman her undivided attention, "if you recommend terrariums. I have negative space to fill." Her house didn't look lived-in. It largely wasn't. She'd brought a secretary there and gotten the feedback that it looked too sterile, too clinical. It would damage her civilian ID if it looked like it was actively on the housing market rather than the lavish home of a CEO. [break][break]

"I have not seen the appeal of self-contained ecosystems, but the glasswork is pretty." The geometric shapes were easy on the eyes. The store had a decent inventory for the logistical problems surrounding the region. She wondered if it could survive a period of purse-clutching and penny-counting, should the war drain the resources of the public drastically.

His flying type was fast. She was glad they had a solid scouting pokemon, especially as she was losing feeling in her fingers from the stark cold. [break][break]

"No time to waste," she agreed as they followed the sound of his Staraptor. Xurkitree followed with tiredness, but he had far more energy than she did as the icy tundra sapped it from her bones. Thankfully, the rift appeared before them, yawning open. Even with the knowledge of her home being on the other side, she always felt a tinge of hesitation at the mouth of a rift. They were symbols of chaos, and the ones that appeared in nature felt more unpredictable than those she wanted to summon through the dreamscape. [break][break]

She gestured to it. "You first, for all your help." She did her best to not look nervous.

The battle happening before her held no interest, now. "A physical letter from the dream." Not a question, but filled with such disbelief as to sound like one. She had only heard of that kind of thing from tera crystals, and even then, the physical manifestations were largely fleeting. [break][break]

"Do you know of any other relics from the Dream?" She wanted to see the letter. She wanted to see what else had come from it, a divine production. She wanted to know if howard slayte had any similar souvenirs, or if all he had was the distorted, over-developed dreamscape that she felt lost within.

He's looking forward. Anyone who seeks to improve has some crumb of optimism, some degree of hope in themselves or in the tentative promise of tomorrow. [break][break]

She wishes, not for the first time, that the dream study data had been uncorrupted; what she could gleam of it had suggested that he and Elisabeth existed like a tumultuous, tipping scale... except the scale wasn't moving at all, in reality. Two people stubbornly pulling each other together while forces, including an internal and wretched one, pulled them apart, too. [break][break]

No use crying over spilled milk, she supposed. That he didn't outright reject the notion suggested a possibility of getting into his head again, anyways. "If the nature of the upset of your mind is internal, likely subconscious, then pulling it out and examining it directly is the best possible cure. Otherwise, you must consider pills or meditation... remedies for the symptoms, not the disease." [break][break]

She allowed her Musharna to come to rest on the desk between them, looking sleepy and uninterested. Likely, she was. "She has the ability to create a dreamy terrain, one that keeps you in a semi-waking state while your subconscious dreams are projected, not unlike light projected onto clouds or onto a screen." It wouldn't hurt, but she had done it so few times that she couldn't speak much to its capacity to help.[break][break]

"It is an open offer, but I insist you do not advertise it. I believe this special ability of my Musharna is rare, and I do not want public scrutiny before I have fully understood the mechanics of it." Experimental, indeed. But if he were haunted in his waking and sleeping hours, how long could he lose sleep before his impaired judgement costed him his life?

Damn that Ranger and damn that girl. Ameena and Gardevoir were out for blood, and she had nearly tasted victory as the flames sped forward, as the girl foolishly stood in front of the fairy that had guarded them all in the penitentiary and had now become her guardian. Indeed, Ameena had thought the girl would be burnt to a crisp, but she was shielded. Worse still, Necrozma loomed above them all and his laser... [break][break]

Well, Ameena had witnessed enough of Necrozma's power to know better. [break][break]

It was time leave. Celebi copied her mega evolved Gardevoir and launched a mystical fire back, just as Ameena tugged on Gardevoir's arm to urge the psychic what she'd already telepathically ordered ('Get us the FUCK OUT OF HERE'). Gardevoir, stubborn and filled with blood lust, craved this battle with Yuina so badly it tunnel visioned and ignored the impending doom. "NOW," Ameena shouted, her hand grasping at its pokeball, her heart beating out of her chest - this was her moment of clarity, the bucket of ice water drenching her. [break][break]

She could not trust Gardevoir. Gardevoir's judgement was so skewed, so overwhelmingly hateful, that it would pay both their lives for a chance at revenge. Gardevoir sensed Ameena's shifting loyalties to it and finally yielded, TELEPORTING them away from the laser, but not before a ball of MYSTICAL FIRE struck Ameena and singed her arm where she'd been tugged on Gardevoir. [break][break]

The duo floated above D2. Ameena looked below, panicked and painfully aware that Gardevoir had been the source of her uncharacteristic sadism of late. The emotional roller coaster was not yet over. [break][break]

Montgomery James was below, along with Cillian Quinn and Tempest Quinn . Ameena didn't have the capacity to help all of them substantively, but she could offer each of them something. Montgomery was clearly engaged in a fight, and while she didn't recognize the other woman, it was obviously a Rocket. She could not sacrifice her allegiance for him in Mossdeep, and she could not do it now. Similarly, she could not trust Gardevoir without a short leash. [break][break]

Clinging to her pokemon, she ordered, "Use healing pulse on the waters below." It would help the civilians that she saw her superiors helping, and hopefully offer Montgomery some aid without appearing deliberate. As the curing pulse spread out, Ameena took a long look at her companion. knowing now that she could not bring out Gardevoir again without sacrificing her own mind.[break][break]

Ameena had few hobbies. This was the nature of a woman who spent all of her time researching or contributing to some type of Rocket project. Even her rest wasn't restful, as it fed back into her dream research. [break][break]

This also meant her skillset was built taller than it was wide. In other words, the plants in her house kept dying. [break][break]

She had claimed countless victims, but she still wanted a small blooming Rowap. The colors were pleasant, and the berries were delicious. Hers always died shortly after sprouting from a seed, so she had taken to buying them further along in growth. Of course, those also died, and so she was on her monthly pilgrimage to replace it. [break][break]

Ameena was content enough to wait for the shopkeeper given the gorgeous array of plants she had lined the room with, but the shattering of glass interrupted her serenity. Their temperament was unpredictable and their lack of self-preservation only multiplied their danger factor. She feared the Megalopolan mob not half as much as she worried about the exploding ultra beasts. [break][break]

She was admittedly glad their route minimized contact. [break][break]

She followed in line with Nenet and the Clefable that seemed a little standoffish towards Zev if she was reading his body language correctly. A few questions sat poised on her tongue, but whatever she could glean from a conversation would change nothing about their mission, so she let it pass. Instead, she considered the Tapu. "I have yet to fight a Tapu," she said with an obvious glance at Fern. There was a concern more pressing than the deity they were going to find, and that was the one they were going to summon. "Has anyone traveled through a rift summoned by Necrozma before?" Would it kill them? The otherworldly being would have no attachment to her, so would it abandon her in another world? She felt no one had addressed the cufant in the room, that this was a huge amount of trust to put in one another - or, at least, for her comparatively powerless self to put in them. [break][break]

Even with that hanging over her head, she couldn't have said no. The potential knowledge on the other side of the rift outweighed any cost.

She had yet to meet Father Winter. From the sound of Matias' earnest sharing, she wasn't sure she was interested in it, even if he had special prowess to show people hyper-realistic dreams. [break][break]

She tried to read between the lines. "Do you think you are carrying parts of these recent dreams with you?" Was it a bad thing? She didn't have a complete transcription of his dream with Elisabeth; the corrupted data had hindered most of it, and it was nearly impossible to parse meaning of what was left. A picnic, a oil slick, an earthquake. What any of it meant, she couldn't say. [break][break]

"Are you here for advice, or for a cure? I must warn you, a regular sleep study will not reveal much - those are primarily for REM data and apnea evaluations. If you are asking me to look into your dreams... it will require my Musharna." Not strictly illegal, no different from an effective dream eater mechanically. Certainly nothing to advertise publicly, of course.
