things were looking up. the stress melted off her shoulders in the ocean breeze, as she approached the beach to leave again for the main island. she guessed she’d be able to make it through at least a couple of cities before dark if she hurried.[break][break]

that was before she saw several beached wailord lining the shore. leaving them there was not a thought that crossed her mind.[break][break]

”do what you can for them, ondine.”[break][break]

her beautiful milotic floated across the sand towards one of the wailord, unleashing a hydro pump that, while powerful, barely seemed to move it an inch.[break][break]

”if only kairos was here…” his surf would have surely done the trick. unfortunately, it was only the two of them on their journey – one that had made her realize that one pokemon was not enough in that big, dangerous world.[break][break]

for generations, my family has worshiped jirachi, singing songs in our small temple and pinning up notes in hopes to be blessed. other people have visited to do the same for many years. they ask for fortune, health, power, and more.[break][break]

since hoenn became a place of bloodshed and otherworldly phenomena, those notes have become so abundant that you can no longer see the walls around the altar. many of them wish for my father to return from war – but that war has been over for years, and there have been many wars since.[break][break]

i’ve grown tired of wishing. i don’t sing those songs anymore, except to my mother. her mind is old and frail after a spacetime distortion. she forgets that i no longer pray — at least not in the way i was taught.[break][break]

the temple is my responsibility now. a part of me feels stuck here, but i love living on the river. the water is my god. when i stand in it, i feel strong and at peace. i can accept the world as it is, beautiful and flowing, in life and death.[break][break]
