Perhaps the cavern was man-made. The researchers could've discovered a new vein of tera crystals that they decided to use to their advantage. Who knew how the cavern got here or how they managed to traverse it. Only that they now need to help the people escape it.

[break][break] Once the poachers were dealt with, Daphnée saw to checking in on the survivors. Some required medical attention. She could only do temporary fixes down here. As she was assisting someone a desperate mother quickly approached her.

[break][break] Her amber hues scanned the distressed woman before offering her a reassuring smile. "Your daughter is safe, ma'am. We took her back to the surface. She's in the care of the rangers above." She said with a nod.

[break][break] Being a mother herself she could sympathize with the woman in more ways than one. Just thinking what sort of mess she would've been in if Chloé was in danger gave her chills that ran down her spine.

[break][break] "If all of you are ready and able, we'll lead you all back to the surface." Daphnée said as she gave them all a reassuring smile. Turning towards Ollie she nodded, "Thank you for all the help." after all she wouldn't have been able to handle all of this without him.

Once the wall was out of the way the pair ended up swimming through the underwater cavern. It was much deeper than she would've anticipated. But seeing as they had yet to encounter those that were trapped within, they had no choice but to venture further in.

[break][break] Through many twist and turns it turned out that the cavern lead upwards towards a breakthrough surface. If anyone was going to be trapped somewhere she assumed that they would've made their way towards air.

[break][break] Daphnée began to push herself to move faster. Even though she was unsure of what would be waiting for them, she couldn't help but feel like they didn't have much time left. She couldn't quite explain the sense of urgency welling up within her.

[break][break] Once they broke the surface they could hear shouting and the sounds of battle further within the underwater cave. Dashing off in the direction of where the noise was coming from they were greeted with the survivors fending for themselves against rogue pokemon and what she could only assume were poachers that had been trapped here with them.

[break][break] Daphnée didn't hesitate before tendrils of fire began to pool out from behind her. Inari, her ninetails, stepped out from behind Daphnée as those flames began to spill from her maw. With a mighty breath she released a river of flame in the form of a FLAMETHROWER towards the aggressors, the poachers.

[break][break] Apollo's cry from above let her know he'd go ahead of them to lead the way back to safety. She felt more secure with him leading their little vanguard. Meanwhile Titan trotted beside the baby wailmer's helping to ensure they follow them closely and no one get's left behind.

Despite what it looked like, Daphnée and Iris, her gossifleur, were pulling their punches too. It truly was just a typing difference. Daphnée had already figured that the pokémon's rage was justified. But the rampage had to be stopped in order to ensure the safety of the other's.

[break][break] With a snap of her fingers the leaf tornado subsided and Iris returned to her side. Under Noel's instruction both Daphnée and Iris covered their ears.

[break][break] The singing was muffled for them but Daphnée knew what Noel was attempting to do. She could only watch in anticipation. The swampert seemed to resist until the very end. But even in all it's anger it couldn't resist the...unique lullaby from the paradox pokemon.

[break][break] Within a few minutes the swampert was put to sleep and suddenly everything around them became quiet and still. With a sigh of relief Daphnée lowered her hands and turned towards Noel. "Good work." she said as she turned back towards the baby pokemon. "We'll have to find these guys new homes." she said as she bent down to scoop up a few Marill and Mudkip in her arm. She couldn't help but feel bad for these guys.

Ollie had a point. She wasn't sure what sort of beasts the depths held but considering her hands were tied with the child, it would be smarter to be careful and not knowingly put them all in a difficult situation.

[break][break] To be fair, Daphnée was just used to handling things on her own. As a special agent she often handled missions on her own, it was just quicker that way. She appreciated the support Ollie provided.

[break][break] 'Reliable, considerate and cute. Quite the full package.' Daphnée thought to herself. Ollie truly made it easy to move a woman's heart. Not that she would let him know that. At least not right away.

[break][break] "Sure thing." she said as she followed them towards the surface. It didn't take long for them to reach there thanks to Ollie and his Lanturn's guidance. Once they were on solid ground again Daphnée quickly made sure to check up on the small child to ensure they were okay. Just a few scrapes and bruises but nothing serious.

[break][break] "Hnng...Mommy..." the girl sobbed as she rubbed at her eyes with her hands. Daphnée finished cleaning her cuts and applying bandages on the wounds when her expression soften. "Shh, it's okay. Do you know where your Mommy is?" she asked as she gently consoled the girl.

[break][break] Her sobs grew louder as she pointed towards the water. "She...tried to help me." the girl whined and Daphnée instantly knew her mother and potentially other's could be trapped down below in that cavern. Daphnée quickly wrapped her arms around the girl in a supportive hug.

[break][break] "Don't worry, we'll help your Mommy. I just need you to be brave for a little while longer okay? The good ranger's here will keep you company while we go help your Mommy." She said as she pulled back to look at her. "You can be a good girl and wait for us, can't you?"

[break][break] The girl nodded and Daphnée smiled. "Good, we'll be back before you know it." she said as she ruffled the little girl's hair before standing up and handing her off to one of the ranger squads nearby. With that she quickly returned with Ollie back to the water. "As we suspected, there's more down there. We need to explore the cavern." Daphnée said as she readjusted her equipment. "Ready when you are."

Practiced or rehearsed, none of that really mattered. Daphnée's response was a safe one. One that would get the job done and should hopefully cause minimal issues for Penelope. She wouldn't want to dig herself into a deeper ditch than she was already on. Her's was already too steep.

[break][break] Though perhaps it was cowardice that kept her responses polite and to the script. Whatever got the job done she supposed.

[break][break] She slipped into the water after Penelope and was met with surrounding darkness. As this mission had been preordained, Daphnée had already gone ahead and prepared numerous equipment and technologies that would properly assist them in their search. As such, when they deep dived to the waters depths, images began to flash across the open space of their diving helmets.

[break][break] The latest in Silph Co. tech had been supplied, at Daphnée's behest. Surely they could offer as much when a councilwoman was involved. The images showed a rough map of the area and the route they would be taking. With a few clicks on her wristband she could calibrate the tech to use sonar to help search for their desired target.

[break][break] Clearly she had come prepared.

[break][break] In response to Penny's musings, Daphnée hummed in agreement. She adjusted her mouthpiece before continuing forward, leading the way for the 'merry' little band. "It's quite...eerie down here." she quipped. "The further down you go the more that's lurking in the shadows." She was sure they would be alright though.

[break][break] As they properly began the route, Daphnée made note of the debris and wreckage around them. "Careful, even with all the preparation I've done, all the disturbance could attract unwanted guests." she knew Penelope could handle herself but she figured advising to err on the side of caution couldn't hurt.

It didn't take long for Daphnée to relocate the baby pokemon. She chose a more secluded area out of the way of carnage.

[break][break] After they were settled she turned her attention towards Titan. "Okay boy, I need you to do me a favor?" Titan gave her his undivided attention. "Watch over these guys for me. Don't let anyone get through. Can you handle that?" the rockruff barked as he puffed out his chest. Clearly he was the most fearless of warriors to grace the earth. Surely his master knew that.

[break][break] Daphnée chuckled at his response. "I know you can do it." With that she turned her attention towards the Swampert and Noel. It seemed to be putting up quite the fight. She hadn't anticipated this much resistance. So once she was sure that the smaller pokemon were safe she approached again, this time to offer support.

[break][break] "I'll help!" Daphnée called out as she approached. Wind began to pick up slowly. Gradually building and building until a stormy vortex was formed. Her gossifleur entered the field with a timely LEAF TORNADO to surround and trap the swampert.

She hadn't expected to encounter a Swampert on a rampage but then again, she wasn't sure what to expect when she took off running. Daphnée's eyes landed on the smaller pokemon that were cowering in fear and knew she needed to take care of them.

[break][break] That's why she didn't protest when Noel made the arrangement. "Say the word if you need help." she said as she quickly took off to approach the smaller pokemon. It was a small group of mudkip, some marill, and a few wooper's.

[break][break] She approached them gently as she held out her hands. "Shhh, it's okay you guys." She said as she slowly approached. "I'm not gonna hurt you."

[break][break] They seemed hesitant at first but the more that the swampert raged and destroyed everything around them, the more they must've felt like relying on Daphnée wouldn't be such a bad idea.

[break][break] "Come with me, I'll get you guys out of here." she said in a soothing voice as she scooped up a few mudkip and marill in her arms. "Titan, help me lead them away from here." she said to her rockruff who barked happily in response.

Despite all the chaos things were going smoothly with little hiccups, which she greatly appreciated. She couldn't help but believe that was thanks to the security and experience Paxton brought.

[break][break] But it was also moving to see even the survivors attempt to assist in any way they could, despite going through the horrors they went through. Daphnée couldn't even begin to imagine what it was like. But it was certainly encouraging.

[break][break] Daphnée offered a smile as she turned to the sky. "You got it, boss." she said as she whistled for Apollo to do another round of surveillance around the perimeter they had set up.

Daphnée agreed, setting up a perimeter would be best, but she also didn't have any water pokemon she could utilize. Seemingly sensing her hesitation some of the people she had medically assisting reached out to her.

[break][break] "Here, use my Mantine." an elderly woman said with a smile and nod. Other's began to offer up assistance too, not satisfied with just being sitting ducks. Amber hues blinked back in surprise before a tender smile graced her lips.

[break][break] "Thank you." she said as she quickly made work to utilize the new pokemon she had access to. She barked out quick orders which the pokemon received well before carrying out the tasks she had assigned.

[break][break] While she took care to establish a protective perimeter for them, she heard the whirr of motor boats in the distance. Apollo's trill from above confirmed her suspicions. "Help is here!" she spoke, loudly enough to reassure those that were in the water as well.

The worst of it had passed. Luckily Daphnée had arrived in time. Not to mention this bright girl was quick on her feet despite seemingly being overwhelmed and stressed.

Daphnée gritted her teeth as she racked her brain for something she'd be able to do. They didn't have a lot of time and Paxton was right, this smoke was getting to be too much.

[break][break] Daphnée whistled again and this time Apollo swooped near her. "Try to clear the smoke while we get help!" She asked as she pointed him in the direction of the fire.

[break][break] Soaring high into the air Apollo began to gain speed as he flew in circles. As he did so he began to gather and circulate the wind currents into a turbulent whirlwind. As he rotated within his TAILWIND the smoke began to gather within the vortex it provided, hopefully offering up an opening for Paxton and his pokemon.

Daphnée watched as Ollie passed by her. Her amber hues couldn't help but linger on the way his wetsuit clung to his body. Perhaps it was due to his occupation that the man before her had such a...sculpted frame.

[break][break] Shaking her head she attempted to refocus. They both had a job to do, this wasn't the time to daydream about her partner for the mission.

[break][break] Once Ollie and his pokemon had removed the obstacle Daphnée swam over to offer assistance. Apparently a hurt mantine and their trainer had been trapped under some rubble. The mantine was doing it's best to supply oxygen for it's trainer with a BUBBLE around their head but it wouldn't last long, she was sure. Not in the shape it was in.

[break][break] "It's alright," she said softly as she scooped the frightened child. Holding her in her arms reminded her of her own daughter at home and she couldn't help but feel her mother's heart break. "We'll get you both out of here." she said as she attached an additional breathing device to the child that was connected to her own rebreather. It was a temporary fix but they would have to act quickly.

[break][break] "I'll take them to the surface." Daphnée said to Ollie with a nod. The little girl tugged on her arm and pointed in the direction they had been trapped in. Immediately Daphnée understood. "There might be other's down there." she said as she looked at the cavern below. "Will you be okay on your own?"

Despite the warmer temperatures, the moment her boss entered the room she could've sworn she felt an arctic front. Mmm, perhaps that was just in her mind. Who was she kidding, ever since she'd stepped foot in this region she'd been aware of the friction between herself and Penelope but she wouldn't allow that to get in the way of her doing her job.
