if he had a pokédollar for every time he'd been called that over the years -- that aside, uncertainty filled the pool of thoughts in silverio's mind; suffice to say it couldn't optimally function, unable to determine if if he should be excited for this impending journey, or bitterly nervous. in the past, if anyone were to tell him that he'd have a chance to venture into the unknown that awaits above the planet's atmosphere, then he wouldn't have believed it. in fact, to say that he would've liked to embark on such a voyage could be assumed as a basket case of wishful thinking.[break][break]

the young girl accompanying him, on the other hand, couldn't seem to contain her excitement even if she tried. the man himself stands firm as a group of workers circled him as they conduct a last-minute inspection of his space to ensure that it's in top form. with the many possibilities of things to discover, an equal number of potential hazards would follow. nonetheless, he can say with a hint of confidence that he'd been looking forward to days such as today for a long while.[break][break]

"this is a first for me too, y'know. i can't help but wonder what's out there for us to see. from afar, the moon just seems like an entire realm filled with...uhh, nothingness. but i'm sure we'll be fine, and that we'll find something that'll make the trip worthwhile...i hope..." words drifting like the space rocks they'd perhaps soon encounter.[break][break]

of all the missions that he'd been chosen for by the league...this one may be the most daunting one yet...

two heads may prove to be better than one in this instance. although, suppose that the saying 'killing two birds with stone' can be classified as something of an insult to the environemt in this particular scenario. regardless, if this problem can't be solved in a timely manner, then it's likely that someone or something could be singing their swan song today. the ranger couldn't afford to have that particular fate passed down on the feuding pokémon here, or those seeking to lend their aid to them such as this woman.[break][break]

as she offered an explanation as to how things were currently transpiring, silverio would direct his attention to the birds in question, squabbling with one another. at this rate, someone's feathers could soon shed like a snake's skin, in which case they'd be beyond saving. of course, as she had just pointed out, natural resources or lack thereof could pose as an unbearable dilemma for any and all involved. but if there's one thing that silv has learned about the environment during his studies thus far...[break][break]

"well..." sometimes you'd just have to make due with what you've got.[break][break]

with that in mind, the paldean marked a few steps with his heels whilst returning his eyes to the pinkette when asked for his insight. "both species are known to be brutally territorial, that much is true; if there aren't enough resources to cover the whole territory..." a quick look towards the ground below him then back up, his feet shuffling between small twigs - perhaps fallen from greens nearby.[break][break]

"then perhaps we can help make some; maybe there's something around here that we can use to help build new homes for these fellas without disrupting them...too much?" his own corviknight, whose clearly not biased towards her own species (yeah, right), excitedly flapped her steel-framed wings. his staraptor squawked in protest, but no move to oppose his trainer's notion otherwise.[break][break]

suppose that the misdreavus may have been signaling for someone, anyone, to come over and say hello the lone party guest, rather than to try and spook him out of dress shoes -- not that it would faze him, much. regardless, suffice to parties are better enjoyed with some good company, although the company in question presents itself as someone that silverio probably should have expected to arrive sooner rather than later. in hindsight, he will welcome it nonetheless. above all else, he'd see this encounter as a means to kill time until...[break][break]

"yeah, y'know i debated coming out here, but...huh!?" he sets his glass down as an oddly familiar voice behind a mask akin to a certain ghost pokémon moves to greet him. "robin...!? is that you? honestly, i should've expected to see you here. nice mask, by the way." of course, the one who claims to be revered by ghosts all over would be here, especially since the theme of this event can be assumed to be, well, ghostly, because that's all this man has seen to this point aside from other guests.[break][break]

as she moves aside for a drink, silv swipes a snack from another passing ghost with a platter. "it has been a while, but then again...a lot has happened since we last ventured together. how're you holding up lately?"

somewhat! cyberspace is a complex environment, but when you add wayward pokémon comprised of binary code into the mix, it's a recipe for impending chaos. alas, the sooner those critters are sent back to the digital void of whence they came, the sooner that everyone in the city could move on with their day. suffice to say that, if there's a lesson to be learned from this unusual experience for the paldea-born ranger, it's this: think outside the box.[break][break]

speaking of boxes, who knows how many will be needed to carry these bots back to whatever form of powerline whence they came. and yet, with each porygon being knocked down by the tandem of lycanroc and toxtricity, guilt eerily creeps up in silverio's conscience. under any normal circumstances, the ranger would prefer some means of non-combative measures to tackle a situation involving pokémon like this. this happenstance, however, can be perceived as anything but normal.[break][break]

strangely enough, the masked streamer attempts to console the creatures but to no avail. and once again, the internet goes down all around. suppose that the porygon had no way of knowing that they're the ones responsible for the outbreak of panic and frustration across the city. and perhaps, they were similar to any other wild pokémon -- in search of a place to call home. but is disturbing signals the only way for them...?[break][break]

"y'know what? maybe not..."[break][break]

he calls out as he approaches the pack, an arises in his mind, much like it would of any aspiring scientist. "if there's no wi-fi or hot spots anywhere, couldn't we just run our mobiles device on data alone? it may cost us a good chunk of it, but i think that's all we may have to go on here. don't quote me on this, but i think it may be possible for these guys to link up to their space through that. what do you think?"

to hear such high praise from a fellow pokémon renders the fluffy little one with a funny tingling in his tummy, and not because of his growing appetite at the mention of berries -- his favorite snack. he hadn't envisioned himself playing the role of a therapist today, but unique experiences such as this were all the more reason to embrace every nook and cranny of life, because you'll never know who or what you'll run into, and when or where. all that matters was that one looks to seize the opportunities presented to them. in the case of the mawile and eevee, the latter saw it as a chance to perhaps make a new friend here.[break][break]

"d'aw, that's real nice of you to say, and i think your princess will feel right at home having you as her protector." should the mawile ask about the aforementioned 'cool liquid', then the eevee would likely be plagued with a bout of embarrassment upon stating that it's mostly water. in any case, it's kind of a bummer that the extra mouth doesn't seem to account for a potentially heightened appetite; there's only so much that the fluffy one himself could stomach before sustaining that inevitable bloated feeling in his gut.[break][break]

still, the evolution pokémon yelps with glee, eager to invest the time remaining in indulging his newfound companion -- if only for a day, perhaps. "ooh yeah! i love berries! i especially like the round yellow ones that look like pears. i think they're called...citrus berries!? what're we waiting for, let's go let's go let's go!!" and with that, the eevee swiftly leaps off to the floow below, tail rapidly swaying to signal his excitement. "lead the way, pal!"

a rare instance, being challenged by a creature that is oftentimes speculated to have been extinct. tales of ancient paldean history have told of such a creature, but to see one himself, live and in living color? the ranger had not anticipated this sort of occasion, or at the very least, not anytime soon. regardless, there is action to be taken, that being to thwart this impending threat to the nature of all that inhabit this land. one that may prove to be a tall order, but one needing to administered all the same.[break][break]

suppose that a helping hand is needed, which is the intent behind silverio's direction for the gliscor, for it would require a combined effort to apprehend this masked stranger. but suddenly, before the flying scorpion could get anywhere, it is abruptly shot down by a heavy stream of concentrated water. "what...?!" seeing this, gliscor's trainer quickly unsheathes a ball, calling for the creature to return to its chamber for a rest.[break][break]

with his communicator on the fritz -- possibly resulting from some form of outside interference -- silverio is left with no other option but to face this timeless demon head-on. alone. if there's one thing to give credit for, it's the opposing trainer wasting no time in proceeding on the offensive, and it seems that they continue to do so. perhaps silverio can call this a subtle reminder of younger trainers waiting for challengers out in the wild.[break][break]

never having faced an entity like this one before, however, questions begin to creep into the mind of the paldea-born ranger. can he and his pokémon truly stand up to such a beast? how will failure here impact the environment? alas, these thoughts and more are tossed aside for the moment to engage this ancient behemoth that is now taking on the crystallized form of tera, a phenomenon most familiar to silv. his mind is telling him 'you got this', and his body is saying otherwise. alas, the mind overpowers the body and thus, the battle begins, with silverio and his nidoking increasingly eager to avenge their fallen comrade.[break][break]

a thundering roar stuns the nidoking. then a steaming burst of aquatic essence -- boosted in power by the fiend's terastal energy -- knocks him back a few feet. "we'll be alright, now let's go get 'em." he encourages his beast. nidoking pushes forward with static energy building around his horn, and after a few seconds, a thunderbolt cracks, shooting towards the terastallized menace. a lesson pertaining to such a feature that silverio vividly recalls from his time at the academy in paldea: tactical analysis -- a pokémon's type may change, but so will its weaknesses.[break][break]

to attempt to make heads or tails of this scenario would likely induce a sharp pain on the paldean's mind like a vespiquen's fell stinger. then again, blending in with the masses - especially a horde of fellow masked party guests - had never been a particularly strong suit for silverio. come to think of it, when has he ever done anything to try and stand out in a crowd? apparently, perhaps never. regardless, it's easy to say that he's here for a good time, much like anyone else.[break][break]

but not for a long time, as one may say...[break][break]

another sip of wine. meanwhile, a misdreavus floats towards him, circlin around him then darting off in a way leading to a table loaded with refreshments. it's as if it was directing him there; did it sense the inaudible rumbling in his stomach? or could that it be offering some company? no matter, but in any case, some hors d'oeuvres ought to do the man some justice right about now. probably![break][break]

indeed, he sets a course for the said tables, with the ghost pokemon trailing off to his side, as he the thought of a 'plus-one' lingers -- suppose he shouldn't have come alone after all.[break][break]

any ordinary canine would have already been put down for a dirt nap much sooner, but not this one. this boltund was certainly one tough pup, but the combined efforts of lycanroc and mismagius have ultimately proved to be enough of a match for the golden specimen. had either trainer or their pokémon been alone in this endeavor, it'd be doubtful that they could've stood up much against this beast, if at all.[break][break]

with the attack from silverio's wolf striking true, the so-called 'noble' hound is left open for the ghostly witch to follow-up as it hits a home run with a shadow ball, potentially disorienting the boltund even further. the paldean's lycanroc reciprocates growling despite the opposition being rendered immobile. "nice battling there, captain; looks like it's...huh!?"[break][break]

suddenly, the golden light quickly dissipated from the electric pup's body. "i'm not sure what that was about, but it looks like that'll be one less environmental threat to worry about now..."[break][break]

alas, this masked stranger wasn't looking to evade the crosshairs of battles that can potentially shape this landscape, that much is made clear to the ranger. but now this begs the question of why were they here to begin with. suppose that this stranger was correct in alluding to the idea of a sneak attack, but that's not the type of person that silverio was raised to be, and certainly not the type of battler -- or the type of champion for that matter -- of which he was back during his days in paldea; he would rather face the opposition head-on. while this can be assumed to be a critical flaw of his, it does not deter him from the matter at hand.[break][break]

"alright buddy, class is now in session..."[break][break]

playing into a scholastic metaphor now, silverio unloads two balls from his strap, both bearing green spots and a red stripe around around their circumference -- dusk balls -- and launches them in a swift side-armed motion, in spite of the stinging sensation that tainted raindrops instill on his bare hands, rendering his calloused fingers fidgeting in search of relief. for the sake of those that inhabit these grounds, he will dare to endure it in this fight. "first lesson for you..." from the two dusk balls come a beast donning a a sturdy iron hide and a fanged, flying scorpion.[break][break]

"is that i'm not backing down." not from this masked minion, or anyone else. but...something was off!? "huh!?" as the rain pours, both metagross and gliscor are drenched in the strangely toxic rainfall. suddenly, they are taken aback by a terrorizing sound of an explosive, not from a bomb however, but from a punk-themed pokémon that is now opposing them. "we'll be fine...now let's...go get 'em!" the ranger's words separated by whooping coughs, likely a result of the acidic downpour. the feminine gliscor looks to strike despite the severity of the situation, dancing her way to the bulbasaur in a round of acrobatics.[break][break]

meanwhile, metagross diverts its attention to the toxic punk rocker, zooming forward with its adamant willpower to unleash a zen headbutt. and the while, the poisonous rain would begin to take its toll on the ranger's duo, slowly but surely...[break][break]

he had heard about the madness that ensued in sootopolis when the primal beast known as kyogre had struck, unleashing its tidal fury on the land, resulting in flooding that was categorized as catastrophic for the most part. upon hearing this, waves of second-handed guilt had crashed down on the paldea-born ranger's conscience like a tropical storm slamming a gulf coast. although that may sound illogical otherwise, the self-loathing endured was rather justified, or so he had led himself to believe...[break][break]

because he couldn't be there to help...[break][break]

today, however, would be another chapter written in a seemingly never-ending tale of increasingly vile woes for the people of hoenn. "let's take it easy guys, we don't wanna rattle them anymore than they already appear to be." silverio advised the two avian critters he has chosen to aid him in a rather daunting objective, a steel-framed raven and an amped-up starling. the task? help mediate a developing dispute between a flock of skarmory and corviknights.[break][break]

the lady bird knight accompanying silverio seemed especially eager to help her fellow kinfolk along the craggy peaks surrounding lilycove. his staraptor on the other hand? he would prefer to scratch stuff up with his talons first and ask questions later. indeed, his trainer would rather not resort to extreme measures. not yet, to say the least. "oh?"[break][break]

it would appear that someone may have beaten silv and his birds to the punch. "looks like someone's gonna have to play the role of 'referee' here..." he thought aloud, then suddenly, he spotted a woman, perhaps instilling some element of surprise, of which he'd be sure to apologize for later. "oh, hello...! you're here to try and help these birds too?"

he hadn't expected to receive any invitations anytime soon, yet here he was, getting an offer to join a captain on a leisurely excursion, in a return to his homeland. indeed it had been a couple years since he had departed from paldea, but not a single day has passed where he hadn't thought about the family and pokémon that he had left behind. suffice to say that letters written to his old man - literally or digitally - were enough to convey all of his experiences clearly. still, the idea of going back would instill some hints of excitement in the man's veins.[break][break]

"sounds like a plan, but first..."[break][break]

look out! before the man could cap off his ongoing statement, a skrelp came flopping into his line of sight, flattened on the soils beneath his feet. "whoa there...!" like a magikarp out of water, the mock kelp pokémon stood at silverio's feet, nearly lifeless. he deigned to bring himself to his knees to secure the creature in his hands. "it's alright, i gotcha." he'd be risking the chances of sustaining some hazardous effect by merely touching the poison pokémon, but as a ranger, it was a risk worth taking to ensure the well-being of such a creature.[break][break]

he then diverted his attention back to the petalburg captain. "we can talk more about that trip later, yeah?" but first, as he had intended to say before the unexpected surprise, there was something he'd like to do in hoenn: learn more about its environment.

not quick enough to react, was he nor his lycanroc. trevenant is downed by the radiant beast, prompting an appearance from elise's spectral witch, seeking to avenge her fallen comrade. "two can play that game..." silverio mutters to no one in particular before issuing his next order to his partner. suppose that it wouldn't be much longer for the electric canine to endure this impending two-on-one assault, as it may be shaken up by mismagius's psychic attack. "use rock slide to trip 'em up!"[break][break]

immediately, the lycanroc summons a trial of rocky crags, shooting up from the ground beneath his paws en route to the golden pokemon.

in the minds of those driven by peace that is seamingly out of reach, some battles are better to be won off the fields. today, however, this was not to be the case, or so it appears. livelihoods lost, and may others are put at risk in the midst of a time that silverio wishes he may have never lived to see -- war. the events of recent memories far outweigh the impact of anything he had ever experienced during his studies and esteemed 'treasure hunt' in paldea. his conscience is rendered uncertain of what the future of hoenn may hold for him. but one thing he was sure of is this...[break][break]

saving that future will be a tall order.[break][break]

alas, this is the reason why he stands here, along the routes connecting to the crippled city of petalburg -- a ship whose crew is currently rendered immobile without its captain, Shalin Nariya, to command them. a mission to evacuate any and all that may be potentially caught in the crosshairs of an ongoing scuffle. the paldea-born ranger embarks through the routes, with his trusted frog ninja scouting the fields ahead of him, and a draconic entity said to be an abomination in this realm's reality serving as his eyes in the sky. the greninja alerts his trainer almost immediately of a presence sensed in the vicinity.[break][break]

"who's out there...?!" silverio calls out to the unknown, which is revealed to be another human and what appears to be an armored dinosaur. "it's not safe here; i would strongly advise that you get as far away from here as possible."[break][break]
