the sight of a familiar pokémon, one whom the ranger his wolf buddy once struggled with contending against for a reason that may sound utterly farfetched, triggers a particular memmory that silverio wishes that he could erase. with this in mind, he swiftly commands his pup to deal with it straight away.[break][break]

and he would. the lycanroc emphatically rushes forward and swats it away with its powerful paws. one less threat to worry about. besides, he would rather have to toy with the possibility of having his communicator being randomly shut down for a second time while out on the field.[break][break]

and so, the paldean's sapphire eyes continue to survey the field...

he could vividly recall the days where he ventured for hours on end during his time in paldea. sneaking through tall grass, scaling sharp mountains, and sliding across icy crags. however, he was only but a boy on a 'treasure hunt' at that time. and even now, it could be said that he may not have truly found that 'treasure' yet. moreover, it can also be said that silverio may not have genuinely figured out what he was supposedly looking for. alas, gaining knowledge of the world around him was the primary reason for stepping foot outside of paldea's borders in the first place.[break][break]

despite having been one of their champions (and technically still is), he had little time to celebrate the accomplishment, but one thing he could commemorate here today was his meeting with one of the rangers' captains. suppose that they could work together someday. the recon he'd been assigned to do thus far? it somewhat aligned with what shalin had just explained. realizing this, he offered a nod for confirmation, all the while his companion found itself busy swatting a few other bugs and other critters away.[break][break]

"you could say that's sort of similar to what i've been doing, plus, ensuring that the environment is safe for the pokémon that inhabit it. i figured that i'm not the only one, but i gotta say, having a whole unit for such a thing is pretty nice. although...most of my pokémon that i had used for traveling were left back at my home in paldea. you could say i'm...rebuilding? new region, fresh start. sort of."

suppose that having the suit on during this ride would pay dividends for the man's physical condition after it'd be over and done with. how the petalburg captain has managed to endure joyrides on her bug's wings consistently was anyone's guess, and despite the impending nausea that may have just been triggered as a result of this wild joyride, this was an experience he may not consider partaking in again anytime soon.[break][break]

the environment may be made up, but strenuous activity within was all too real...[break][break]

as the insect queen paused her motions, silverio found himself rapidly losing his grip, but he'd managed to retain it, all of which he'd only have mere seconds before the beedrill started to buzz away once again. only this time, he'd then find himself glowing with a light shining like a precious emerald. between him, the captain, and her pokémon, synergy may have been achieved - if only for but a millisecond.[break][break]

having lost all sensation of direction or positioning for the moment, silv could feel his head and body rushing, flooding with adrenaline, all at the cost of blurred vision and perhaps temporarily lost sense of self. "how do you...do this...all the time!? this is crazy!!" he shouted.

while he had never gotten an opportunity - or consent, rather - to venture into area zero himself, stories of what it once was had been told in paldea throughout time immemorial. such tales have become something of a second nature to silverio, to a point where they'd grown to evolve into something akin to a belief that may be deemed sacrilegious to some. nonetheless, it was a belief that he'd come to live by, an imagination, a vision even, that there truly are worlds out there other than this world. if that is likely the case, then he just hasn't seen anything of that nature.[break][break]

through the said beliefs of his trainer, ceruledge stands firm despite the change in scenery - electricity filling the air around them. and as quickly as the environment shifted, the menacing machine makes its move at speeds comparable to a fighter jet, as if the electric terrain is providing a sparkplug for the opposition.[break][break]

or maybe...that's exactly what it's for...!?[break][break]

the dark knight dares to take a step forward to meet his adversary head-on, but due to its unfathomably swift motions, ceruledge is quickly approached by the iron warrior. moving its sharp-edged arms to challenge the machine's initial attack, it clashes. and yet, it fails to match his opponent's fast pace. a downward slash strikes true, knocking the ghostly gladiator back a tad, it's armored head somehow retaining its posture all the while.[break][break]

"damn, it's fast..." silv alludes with a soft voice drifting, to no one in particular.[break][break]

"it's alright, buddy! just keep your head up and push forward!" the hard-edged soldier cocks his head in acknowledgement of his partner's words. if there's little or no chance to match roland's speed, then maybe there's a chance to challenge it's strength. with that in mind, ceruledge presses forward, bladed arms swiping across; a slash to the left, then to the right, then left once more, heat on the blades intensifying as he does so. his bitter blade seeks to find its mark.

so it's not just his communicator that's gone haywire, but all of the technology in the city as well!? not a good look for its citizens or guests. it's especially a bad sign for silverio, since he is now rendered unable to call for backup. that is to say, save for this oddly-dressed person who is apparently in pursuit of that techno pokémon - the alleged culprit. and to think that there's more than one?[break][break]

surely, if they can capture one, then they can catch 'em all...[break][break]

but supposedly pursuing them on foot is ill-advised, according to the masked citizen. in any event, silv and his lycanroc come to a stop when this person calls to the ranger once again. a unnecessary setback, for the longer they remain stationary, the more difficult it may be to catch those critters before they do any more damage.[break][break]

but...[break][break]

"i guess any idea is better than none...whatcha got?" he asks as he turns his eyes to the impromptu client. meanwhile, his lycanroc scampers over to the masked human(?), takes a quick whiff, then assumes a seat in front of them with his tail swaying to and fro, deeming that no harm may come from them. for now at least.

the battles that may have reshaped the region as he knew it had come and gone, but in their wake, silverio was left with more questions rather than answers - one of which involved the man himself and his outlook on the world as if shifts into despair and uncertainties as he speaks. nonetheless, there was a still a job to do, that being to lend a helping hand to the environment despite the some of the said questions being whether he truly deserved to call himself a ranger.[break][break]

in the midst of self-deprecation, a thought comes to mind: he needs help, from friends, both old and new - someone or something that may serve as a wildcard in the battles to come. with that in mind, he finds himself here, back in the city where he'd been stationed, scouting the fields. accompanying him today is his trusted lycan companion.[break][break]

suppose that a new draft pick for his team could work wonders; of this, only time will tell...

how has shalin managed to handle donning such attire and utilizing its capabilities for as long as she has? perhaps he may never know for certain, but one thing was for sure though: he couldn't knock this thing off until he tries it. in fact, if this whole ordeal weren't some manner of virtual simulation, then seeing him in a suit like this may be considered worthy of being a catalyst for a meme, especially with the exasperated confusion that's clearly shown on his features.[break][break]

it was only a few seconds, but in that short time, silverio strugged to witness the captain riding along her insect queen's wing, though her voice surely expressed her enjoyment of the experience. but to invite him to try for himself? he could only imagine himself falling straight off the thing in a matter of...maybe less than one second? still..."i guess it's a worth a shot...okay..."[break][break]

reluctantly, he moved to grasp the opposite wing as tightly as a kingler's claw vice-gripping a seashell, preparing himself for a joyride that he may never take part in otherwise. "okay...i'm ready...!"[break][break]

"right, she did mention having been appointed as rustboro's captain just recently. honestly, i'm excited to start working with her. nice girl, that one. definitely not the kind of princess that kids read about in fairy tales, i'll tell you that much." he couldn't imagine himself having to sacrifice his own position for the sake of another's ascension. what's more was that he hadn't envisioned himself making the climb up the chain of command.[break][break]

the woman elected to bring out another one of her own companions, an unusually large skuntank. he found admiring the sight of a trainer and her pokémon having a heartwarming bonding moment, that is to say, until a chespin shot out in front of him, rolling out like a boulder coming down a steep mountain. the dark blade pokémon moves to use one of its sharp-edged arms to stop it in its place.[break][break]

"good job, buddy." suppose he ought to treat the knight to some cake for his efforts once they return home. meanwhile, the two rangers conversation would resume as if that surprise appearance didn't just happen. "specialty...? well i'm usually out on the fields. reconnaissance, if you will. if you could even call it that, anyway."

not particularly what he would like to hear right about now. in fact, part of him is tempted to lecture his canine companion for having initiated contact with this person. but for the sake of keeping the peace, despite the sinister vibes of two strangers meeting in the shadows at this time of night, he refrains, and ultimately decides against peeking at the shots taken within the frames on that camera. that is to say, at least for the moment.[break][break]

is cleanly secured by the woman. good, that's one less potential threat to the environment to concern himself well. now he can only hope that she would raise it well - wishful thinking, perhaps. the scent of nicotine streaks across the ranger's nose as its source is tossed aside. normally, he'd be inclined to object to endangering the environment in such a careless manner, but to trigger a dispute in that sense would be merely asking for trouble.[break][break]

a sentiment he hadn't expected takes the man by surprise. "my lycanroc, a pokemodel?" he repeats as he turns his attention to the wolf, who's now found swiping at a wayward magnezone, leaving it spinning through the air. another possible danger to the atmosphere, it seems. to apprehend it, silverio swiftly tosses a ball at it. once it became immobile, the lycanroc moves to knock the ball over to his trainer as if it were an ordinary dog toy.[break][break]

"never thought of that, really." he quickly scoots down to pick up the used pokeball and stows it away, then returns his attention to the photographer. "come to think of it, my buddy doesn't seem to be bothered by having eyes - and lenses - on it at all. that's...kinda cool...?"

whatever happened here in the past, granted if time itself could even be measured here, was irrelevant to the pair of explorers. silverio would rather focus on the present, that being the objective to examine the castle's interior. a tall order for the two of them, with an emphasis on 'tall'. eerie vibes - the sounds of clocks ticking, one after another, began to ring in the paldean's ears.[break][break]

small steps taken, careful not to overstep any of the carcasses. was truly something here? a treasure buried leagues beneath the sands of time? that remained to be seen. regardless, it would be a shame to have ventured all this way with nothing to show for it. suppose that the experience in and of itself may be considered a prize all on its own.[break][break]

but the only direction this machine would be headed now is six feet under - a fate seemingly inevitable, even for an artificial lifeform. regardless, silverio would opt to look past it for the time being, and instead, focus on the matter at hand: venturing inside the castle, finally.[break][break]

the sight of the room's interior struck a chord in the man's heartstrings; the space was littered with bones all around. never before had seen such a display of morbid proportions, which rendered his eyes widening and mouth agape as he scanned the vicinity. "no way..." sure there had to have been a way for this to happen, as if their sentient selves had been sacrificed for a daring ritual.[break][break]

a theory had come to mind.[break][break]

in spite of this gruesome, footsteps draw closer, keiko's. he turned back to the door from whence they entered, and the monster that was laid to waste right outside. eyes returned to the sight before them as he proceeded to express what he may have only just theorized in his mind. no escape from the bones amassed here, despite being undone from their bodies. "if i had to guess, i'd say that it may have died while trying to protect this place, taking the lives of many along with it..."[break][break]
