indeed, silverio can easily recall the exact location of that venue. what's more? his canine companion could sharply trace the scent of coffee beans and hardwires back to the outskirts of the city, and with the wolf hot on that scent's trail, neither human - or what appears to be a human behind a mask - could afford to waste time in pursuing the alleged culprits. getting into position to set a trap is one thing, but catching an offender that's constantly on the move? good luck.[break][break]

the venue in question soon comes into the ranger's line of sight, several feet away from the city's entrance. now to hash out this plan, except..."huh...!?" was the masked civilian looking to record their exploits in the city prior to its entire network going haywire? what manner of content...actually, never mind! for the sake of serenity, or lack thereof at the moment, he'll go along with whatever this person has in mind. for now, to say the least.[break][break]

"sure, sure. just...try to keep it clean, yeah?" the content, that is. all the while, he signals for his canine to find a safe place to hide, and he does so within a patch of tall greens. can't afford to intimidate the porygon or any passersby for that matter.

he managed to grab the mawile's attention, but for how long will it humor the eevee? perhaps the entire day, or so the acclaimed evolution pokémon would only so. a greeting, welcoming the eevee's presence. suppose there's too much fluff in that tail of his to ignore after all. and so, silverio's little four-legged doll would indulge; it props into a readied stance, like a proud lion in pursuit of its prey.[break][break]

one hop and...oof! he makes the jump, just barely though - maybe he ought to work on his timing, positioning, and...legwork! upon a somewhat rocky landing, the eevee claims the seat offered, beside the mawile. "hey there! i'm doin' just swell, thank you!" answers the eevee, but a huff passing through the steely critter's lips raises concern. "you're lookin' a lil down yourself. what's wrong?"

personally, he would prefer most other aquatic creatures over the aforementioned gargantuan catfish. while dondozo sure as heck is big and bulky, it lacks in speed. and while cyclizar is predominantly known for their speed out in the open, their off-road traction would be oftentimes be brought into question. simply put, there was just no surefire way of traversing paldea's vast environment, but honestly, its unpredicatability was the one thing that made it all the more enjoyable.[break][break]

still, foreign pokémon were a topic of discussion that silverio would never mind engaging in. "yeah, cyclizar are native to paldea. they're good for driving out on plains and fairways, but not very good for climbing." the mention of a vacation sunk deep into the man's pores. meanwhile, the dark knight pokémon found itself mingling with other plant-like pokémon in the background.[break][break]

"y'know i would like that. it would be nice to take a trip back home every once in a while; i haven't been back there since..." well, since he started all this ranger business. times had been tough, and the many phenomena that threaten hoenn have been even tougher. nonetheless, some reprieve was needed, sooner rather than later. or so he'd hope. "maybe when this region is under less duress...but i suppose that's wishful thinking at this point..."

surely, silverio has started to learn much of this land outside of his borders. particularly, the many anomalies that shroud the horizon in a veil of mysteries. today, however, he is contending with no such thing. here, near the city where he's been stationed, he's essentially on cleanup duty; a mess of fur littering the grounds along the routes surrounding rustboro, as if someone had been out here hunting rabbits. alas, there were no carrots in the ranger's possession to lure them out with.[break][break]

instead, he relies on his lycanroc's sharp nose to sniff out the discarded furballs and track their scent. accompanying him also is a fiery stallion, in the event that the man would need a quick ride back to the city upon completion of his job. the creatures in question are notorious for their powerful legs, but simultaneously, silv's rapidash could kick equally hard if need be. thus, the hunt begins...!

"it could be..." was she hearing the same thing...!?[break][break]

probably not, but on no faults, safe to say. there were still many unknown variables to consider in these lands, the first being that massive obelisk, and whatever's making that obnoxious slicing sound being another, in tandem with multiple footsteps. like a buzzsaw carving through stacks of lumber. although, silverio could hazard a guess as to what may be causing it. "pokémon - a group of them, i'll bet."[break][break]

with keiko's slowking taking point, the team sought to get a clue as to what may be lurking in these depths, only for it to trigger...a trap!? no, an opening of sorts, towards the left of the fork. surely the events of today leading up to this point ought to be more than enough to trigger one's anxiety, of that silverio can agree on. suppose that keiko wouldn't be the only one looking to engage in any recreational indulgences after this expedition would be done with. "you and me both."[break][break]

the ranger met her gaze with a stern visage, perhaps a facade masking more growing concerns. "let's check the passage, although i'm pretty sure i heard footsteps coming from the other way, probably of other creatures..." and yet, the sound grew louder by the second. "if i'm right, then there's a chance that we may run into them sooner or later..."

what was that saying about three being a crowd? actually, that might in fact be the exact quote for all they know. regardless, the adventure through the organized wild area continues for silverio and his wolf pup, despite the latter unexpectedly serving as a caravan for some of the safari's inhabitants.[break][break]

soon enough, they come across a small pond, the waters as clear as crystal. within the depths, silv spots a small school of fish roaming about, until one decides to launch itself at the unsuspecting party. with a quick swipe of his paw, the lycanroc instinctively swats it away, treecko and mudkip barely hanging on to his fur for their dearest little lives. "uhh...moving on now...!"

further along the trails, with two new accomplices now in tow. the more, the merrier! right? right!? new traveling buddies and all, if only for today at the very least, silverio continues leading the newly-formed pack of poképals along. before long, a creature akin to a camel comes into view, blockaded their path.[break][break]

a numel! well, an attempt was made to impede on their trek at least. silverio and his lycanroc swiftly maneuver around the critter, but little would they know, the little one would commence its pursuit of them. slowly, but steadily, yet there's no race to be won here. alas, the numel finds itself drawn to the beast, perhaps by its beauty -- that fur looks awfully comfy in its eyes.

indeed, only way to find out, and it would not be by walking in the opposite direction. with his bearings gathered for the moment, silverio commenced his steps, albeit a bit shaken by his brief immobilization from just moments ago. but even so, he wasn't planning to sit out for the duration of this expedition.[break][break]

upon entering the depths below the ground's initial surface, he discarded his sunglasses, deeming the area too obscure of a view with them on despite the torches lit in lines along the walls of the tunnel. noting the footprints on the ground, most being too small to fit that of an average-sized human, silv would follow along to keiko's theory - suppose he wouldn't be the only one thinking of any possible scenarios.[break][break]

"you might be right, the question being what kind of a pokémon would wanna be running around down here..."[break][break]

faint sounds of footsteps upon reaching a fork in the tunnel, lots of them, from the right side. "you hear that...!? it's coming from that way...!"

it all happened so suddenly...[break][break]

and because he'd been rendered immobile by the that obnoxious ostrich, he could not get a clear view of what was happening around him. he heard fighting, however, and also keiko calling to him. that alone was enough to keep him in the fight despite of the unexpected circumstance of being physically stunned by a bird that probably doesn't even fly.[break][break]

before he knew it, he'd then be smacked with a pulse, but a rather soothing one this time. and with that, he managed to regain some bit of life in his limbs. when his body could finally function once again, he looked up from the seat of his pants in the sand to see the obelisk had come and gone, leaving behind...perhaps the clue they'd been looking for?[break][break]

he met the girl's gaze briefly, plainly, before propping himself up from the sand. "i am now." he then alternated looks between her and the slowking which may have offered an assist. "thank you guys." directing his attention to the path that presents itself before them now, hands swivel about to dust off the sand from his attire. meanwhile, greninja dash onward to scout immediate distance ahead of them. "i think that's worth checking out, yeah?"

"alright then...good to meet you, bella."[break][break]

now that the two are formally acquainted, they can proceed with commencing the operation. although it appears that this woman was in no rush to get going just yet, despite silverio having waited for a considerable amount of time for her arrival - not that he minded this, but the sooner that they can get started, the sooner they can wrap up and collect their just rewards. he sought to examine her ride a tad closer, that was, until a rattata comes storming out of its spherical chamber to greet the man in kind atop its apparent trainer's shoulder. an endearing sight, it was. "and nice to meet you too, little buddy."[break][break]

it was...oddly cute...![break][break]

alas, her identity is confirmed, not only as a fellow ranger, but also as silv's running mate for the impending job. her vibe is surprisingly strong; there weren't many other rangers -- or even other people in general for that matter -- who would present themselves in this manner, exuding a level of confidence that perhaps may be immeasurable by any normal means. admittedly, he may have gotten just a tad antsy here for but a moment due to the mixup with times. but to say the least, he can appreciate the fact that bella had even bothered to show up at all -- it was better that than to be stood up like a blind date silently canceling.[break][break]

and so it was time for them to ride off into the sunset, literally![break][break]

bella wastes no time in getting herself comfortable on that bike -- how long has she been riding on it!? that wouldn't matter, so long as it can prove to be viable method of fast transportation. she suggests that he grabs on to something, and grab on he will. or in this case, someone to hold onto for some much-needed leverage, especially considering the breakneck speeds of which a vehicle such as this is allegedly capable of achieving. her repositioning as he sits behind her takes the man a bit of surprise, but for the sake of the mission, he would have to endure.[break][break]

broad arms tightly loop around bella's waist, unexpected bodily contact and all.[break][break]

before long, they take off, and the apparent rookie looks to strike up conversation en route to their destination, although she'd best keep her eyes on the road whilst doing so. first, the topic of their respective jobs. "i've been at this for a couple years now. before this, i was just an ordinary pokémon trainer doing ordinary things. i know that sounds insanely boring, but i'm also studying the environment, which is part of the reason i became a ranger in the first place -- to learn about the nature that i'm trying to help. if that makes any sense...!?" he finds himself competing with the sounds of the bike's engine as he speaks.[break][break]

"what about you, bella? you're just starting out as a ranger, you said? if it's okay to ask, what were you doing before this?"
