Peace of mind finds Scout Wilder, even if only briefly.[break][break]

The indeedee removes one hand from his shoulder, nodding—as if to tell him he’d done well thus far. Then it waddles over to the side of its master, a man more like a hunched crow with off-gold feathers that hobbles its way across the chaos.[break][break]

But instead of pecking out the eyes of the injured and dying, he simply wanders. And sometimes he kneels. The ground rumbles with the exertions of a nearby battle, and a few working cars careen through the streets. Three more panicked civilians run by before Hawkins finally meanders over to Scout. Between the komala sleeping on his shoulder and the indeedee pulling at his sleeve, he looks like a charlatan.[break][break]

But these minor miracles are real. [break][break]

The doctor removes the cigarette from his mouth—one which leaves a greenish smoke and smells nothing of tobacco—and presses the butt into the mass of blood below.[break][break]

By the time two of the evacuation personnel respond to the summons and rush to carry the man away on a stretcher, he's already recovered from the shock of blood loss; and a small flower already blooms from the red on his chest.

Hawkins sits on a bench, reading a smuggled newspaper. His indeedee stands by his side, still as a statue. His komala curls around his neck, having long found its forever tree.[break][break]

It would have continued being a pleasant reprieve had a certain smell on the artificial breeze not made all three of them wince in unison—even the sleeping marsupial.[break][break]

With some minor resignation it only takes a minute for them to amble through the Rocket HQ courtyard until they locate its familiar, homeless source.

A grim, stoic man. He says little, but the fleet of bubbly chanseys that trail after him say plenty. [break][break]

He straddles the fine line between being intimidating and being swarmed by cuddly pokemon that have taken a liking to him.[break][break]
