There was an empty, hollow feeling in her chest—having a Pokémon taken away left a void that felt impossible to fill. She would mourn and grieve for as long as it took. Somehow, she’d need to come up with a story to explain Dragonite's absence to her daughter. Losing one of the strongest dragons she had ever known left an ache, yet Dragonite had gone down the way she’d always fought: with unyielding courage.[break][break]

“Don’t blame yourself. If she hadn’t stepped in, who knows what Munkidori might’ve done.” She glanced away, she could always searching for Dragonite’s spirit lingering at the borders. Maybe she could contact Robin about it… it wouldn’t be too hard, would it? But in this moment, she felt vulnerable, worn down, and almost entirely drained. The encounter had tested her in every way—mentally and physically.[break][break]

“We should leave... It’s not safe here. I’ve never handled a toxic chain Pokémon before, so I’ll need your help understanding how they work. I want to research them and the Loyal Three.” Maybe there was a way to control the poison or even fight against it. They would need a strategy for whatever awaited them. After a moment the woman placed a hand on hers. There was still so to unravel but for now a rest was really needed.

She had heard enough. Without looking back, she moved purposefully towards the Galarian mare. By the time she arrived, the poisonous mass had fully taken form. "I've got her." There would be no saving this Pokémon, no way to rewrite its fate. A new, toxic creature born from tragedy, the cursed chain connecting her to the wounded Saiyan.[break][break]

“Sune?”[break][break]

The mare's ears flickered, some slight acknowledgment, but the light in her eyes was gone, replaced by a single, consuming thought—revenge. Sune’s mane glowed as she unleashed her Psychic energy, hurling the same boulders Munkidori had used against them, smashing them against monkey over and over again.

The toxic chain only hissed, a wicked smile unmoving, as if this was all a twisted game. The blue glow in its eyes flashed, crushing the boulders with ease, but her Dragonite seized the opportunity, using Extreme Speed to strike again and again. Toxic chains snaked around Dragonite's neck, shocking and choking her, yet she fought on.[break][break]

Sune made the only choice left, sending a Psychic beam to the ceiling, triggering a cascade of rocks. Dragonite locked eyes with her trainer, casting a final, defiant grin as the rubble buried them both.[break][break]

It ended before Evelyn could fully grasp what had happened. “No…” she whispered. Silence fell as the dust settled. Then, the ground began to crack. Munkidori re-emerged, wounded and bantered, his smile now almost neutral, though an unsettling gleam lingered. Was he toying with them all along? What was the goal of this? Was it some kind of test?[break][break]

With questions left unanswered, the toxic creature withdrew. The Ponyta, intent on revenge, was quickly called back to her Pokéball by Evelyn, but a wave of grief crashed over her. There was no sign of life in the rubble. Smyrna was gone. The Dragonite, who had stood by her since the start, even through that confession, had met her end to save them.[break][break]

No tears fell—only a hollow gaze. "It’s over… for now." But as long as Absinthe held sway with the Loyal Three, Munkidori would return, tormenting them once more.[break][break]

Fear fueled her, yes, but rage was her guiding light. Evelyn’s expression remained calm, her eyes dark and sharp as any hint of vulnerability vanished. With a venomous smirk, she glanced at her lover, Absinthe, feeling her fingers curl around her hand, nails digging deep. The sting was a small price to pay, an almost pleasurable pain compared to her mounting annoyance. Absinthe was never alone—not while Evelyn drew breath. Her voice dropped to a mocking lilt. “Alright? I’m livid that my eleventh-favorite pair of shoes got ruined, but other than that? Just peachy.”[break][break]

She’d moved with grace to dodge the toxic wave from the Toxapex’s Baneful Bunker; it would’ve been ugly otherwise. But quitting wasn’t an option. Munkidori was out of her league—she knew that. Still, she had a plan, a reckless one, but it would have to do. “Absinthe, do you trust me? Because I’m about to do something reckless.”[break][break]

She didn’t wait for an answer; she didn’t need to. “I need my Ponyta,” she said, her gaze landing on the mottled purple growth on the mare’s neck, a clear result of the toxic chain forming. “I can’t pass up the chance to get her back. Cover me!”[break][break]

Meanwhile, the Dragonite snarled, immediately going on the offensive. Munkidori taunted the creature, laughing as he feinted and dodged its retaliatory strikes. Finally, the Dragonite reached a breaking point, roaring as it charged a Hyper Beam, wings slicing through the narrow space as it took to the air.[break][break]

But Munkidori, anticipating the attack, managed to evade by a hair, leaving a fresh crater where he’d once stood. This created a narrow opening—just enough for Absinthe to make her move.

Evelyn knew this didn’t solve all their problems. No, they were going just beginning but she decided to forget about for the moment. She glanced around uneasily, trying to piece together what felt off. Then, a chilling thought hit her. She didn't protest moving behind the woman.[break][break]

“What’s happening?” she murmured, peering over Absinthe’s shoulder, searching for whatever had raised her alarm. Suddenly, her heart dropped: Ponyta was gone. Her loyal companion, missing. Evelyn’s mind raced; the Horse must have encountered someone—or something sinister.[break][break]

“Let’s not be too hasty,” she said trying to keep her voice calm, "If...by change it's one of them. We will dealt with it accordingly." In moments, she summoned her Dragonite. The dragon took a vigilant stance beside Absinthe. Though comforted, Evelyn’s gut still screamed danger.[break][break]

Her fears were confirmed as a shadowed figure stepped forward, its twisted grin glinting in the dim light. Munkidori. His silent, malevolent gaze held nothing but cruel amusement as he closed the distance. He paused over Ponyta’s motionless form, showing not an ounce of empathy as he stepped over her, as if she were no more than a discarded toy.[break][break]

Evelyn clenched her fists, her eyes meeting the dark simian’s with defiance. But Munkidori’s eyes, glistening with sadistic glee, narrowed with a grim determination. Without a single sound, he raised his arms, and a sickly wave of toxic sludge gathered around him, building into a dark, churning storm. Evelyn gasped as she recognized the impending Sludge Wave.[break][break]

“Everyone, brace yourself!” The woman shout and Munkidori, relishing in their panic, released the poisonous torrent, aiming to drown them in his silent, merciless wrath.

"You don't know what you're asking of me." It was a harsh truth Evelyn knew all too well, yet she wanted nothing more than to remain by Absinthe's side, come hell or high water. Losing everything they shared would shatter her, but she was willing to risk it all just to stay close, no matter the danger or what lay ahead. Love could be a blessing or a poison—and now it was her own choice. Please she sodded as she embraced Absinthe, never wanting to let go. Just give us a chance—anything.[break][break]

Evelyn couldn’t let go of her, even if she knew it would only invite heartbreak. The Loyal Three knew this too—that it was only a matter of time before the devil toyed with his victim once more. Yet for now, she managed to keep Absinthe a little longer, even if their love was toxic. What do you expect me to promise something like that? However the intensity in Absinthe's green eyes she knew better than to fight it. This was a dealbreaker. Even if Absinthe had her best interests at heart, Evelyn would rather be ruined than abandoned. Why couldn’t she see this truth clearly?[break][break]

"You need a reality check," a voice in her head screamed. It was a harsh and bitter truth—there were no winners in this twisted game. She knew she was being selfish, as she always had been. "I-I promise," she whispered, praying she'd never have to keep it. "I’ll do what you ask if it comes to it, and I won’t look back."[break][break]

While the pair was preoccupied with sorting out their differences, Evelyn’s Ponyta wandered off. The mare was curious as she ventured through the cave, where she discovered strange effigies of the Loyal Three. But one looked strangely different, almost lifelike, as if it had been real all along. The Ponyta didn’t have a chance to neigh or raise the alarm before she was silenced by an intruder. She fell to the ground, wounded with a poisoned gash, but the creature didn’t seem to care and merely watched the scene unfold.

When a snake feels threatened, it hisses and strikes. Elveyn was no different. She glared with bitterness and anger. This was her defensiveness and tendency to cling to those she depended on. Maybe what drove Eric to cheat with her sister and destroy her. She lashed out whenever she was hurt, and it felt as if her world had turned darker with each betrayal. Elveyn remembered every mistake, every accomplishment that went unrecognized. She remembered the times she had yearned to be something great, to achieve something meaningful. But her family cared only for money and reputation. A normal life was never within reach. Her dreams—a partner who loved her deeply, a promising career, and a life filled with joy—were torn away piece by piece until all that remained was her daughter, her Persephone, the only light that kept her going.[break][break]

Elveyn was familiar with the darkness. She knew that, even if given the chance to redo her past, she wouldn’t take it. She understood her own selfishness, but could she truly be blamed want to keep hold of the one normal things she had in her life? Absinthe had ruined her, made her crave the numbness of pain until it became an escape, she had become a place where her demons could appear without judgment. She feared being abandoned by yet another person she loved, terrified that Absinthe would change into something unrecognizable, just as her ex had when left her. She didn’t want to lose another love—not again.[break][break]

For a while, no words passed between them; only the soothing sound of the waterfall filled the silence. “Then don't leave...please don’t do this to me,” she whispered, her mask finally breaking as she could no longer hold back her emotions. This was mess but it still could be fixed right? She prayed, and for the first time, tears filled her eyes. “If you’re falling too far, then let me be the one to keep you afloat, the speck of light in your darkness.” Just as Absinthe had been for her. "Even if something terrible happen I will be there...don't throw me away."

"You always have a choice, Absinthe." From the moment of their reunion until now, it had always been her choice to stay close, to open her heart in times of pain. Everything up until this point had been a choice—a painful, deliberate choice. The snake in her bared its fangs, struggling to keep control, but it was a losing battle. "There have always been options, even if you didn’t see them as such. You could have easily turned me away or brushed me aside like dead weight. See, that's an option!"[break][break]

She was breaking under the weight of it all, desperate to think of a way out of this mess, but there was no solution. Only more pain lay in the wake, no matter which path she chose—and she hated that more than anything. Somehow, by some miracle, she kept herself calm, even though she felt like a cornered animal. "I wouldn’t stop you. I promised, from the moment we made our vow, to stand by you until Hoenn burns, and I intend to keep it. But I ask you to be extremely careful. Think of how many People who gain powers of the legendary or mythical end up... I don't want to see you become a mindless zombie to a cheeky, stupid bird."[break][break]

She looked down, choosing to keep her gaze off her lover for a moment as she collected her thoughts. "If you thought that was you ending this, I’m afraid you’re wrong. This is only the beginning of something much, much worse. I doubt that if Fezandipiti went to such lengths to show its favor, you even have that choice anymore." Somehow she found a way to regained herself but simply sighed. "Why is even a option in the first place? You want to die and leave me that badly, is that it?"

But even Evelyn felt a pang of fear for the future. She wasn’t sure if she should see this as a blessing or a curse. "I should have expected something like this from you," she said, forcing a cheerful tone. This was a path she didn’t fully understand, one that even she didn’t have the answers for, nor a way out of.[break][break]

She took a deep breath; she wasn’t some foolish child who didn’t know how to act. Being upfront with her feelings was the only way to go. "Do you understand what this means?" she asked. "No one has ever gained the favor of the loyal three, to my knowledge. You might very well be the first. Perhaps… the only one. In time, the others may choose another, but for now, it’s just you."[break][break]

"Are you prepared to be in the crosshairs of both Team Rocket and maybe even the League if they find out?" she continued. "Rocket higher up will be trying to keep their eye on you, and the League—well, they’d see you as possible a true threat than may even try to kill you." She paused, her voice softening. "To what lengths are you willing to go to see this bond through? It may very well turn into a poison one no going back."[break][break]

Evelyn’s voice wavered just slightly, her vanity slipping to reveal a hint of vulnerability. And I don’t want to lose you

Evelyn had been scrolling through social media, drawn in by the swirling rumors about the Loyal Three. Intrigued, she noted how they’d recently spotted when Petalburg was taken over but were cause even more chaos. They were infamous for their toxic chains that were said to be extremely potent. While she didn’t have much firsthand knowledge, she knew Addy would love to see one. After all, she had five or six toxic-blasted chained Pokémon herself and all of them named after poison for crying out loud. [break][break]

As she waited at the falls, she found herself growing increasingly restless. She had been there for over an hour, and though her Galarian Ponyta kept her company, the quiet of the area began to wear on her. The gentle sound of the water cascading down the rocks was soothing, but it also felt isolating. The anticipation of her lover’s arrival was palpable; she could feel her heart race with each passing second.[break][break]

Finally, the familiar sound of footsteps broke through her thoughts. About time! The violet-haired woman turned, a teasing smile ready on her lips, but her excitement faltered when she saw that Absinthe wasn’t alone this time.[break][break]
