Evelyn raised an eyebrow. A ritual? Just when she thought she had seen everything, the world had a way of surprising her yet again. She was too exhausted to argue or delve deeper, but part of her hoped it wasn’t from some cult—or worse, a blood sacrifice. At this point, nothing would shock her. "Well people pray to pay respects for those who have passed on... or those who still have time." she said, her voice carrying a hint of skepticism. Her Gastly playfully circled her head, though she was too frustrated to fully appreciate its antics. [break][break]

“Bad energy? What do you mean by that? Have I been cursed?” she thought, her mind briefly wandering to the possibilities. As much as she hated to admit it, there was a nagging curiosity about what this might mean for her future. It could be dangerous, no doubt, but for now, she decided to let it go. No need to panic... yet.[break][break]

Evelyn gave a small, almost reluctant smile."Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll keep it in mind," she said, her voice softening, though her pride kept her from being too openly grateful. "Seems I still have quite a bit to learn, don’t I?" It irked her slightly to admit it—she liked being the one with the answers—but even she couldn’t deny that there was always something new to uncover.[break][break]

Next time, she’d be more prepared. But for now, she appreciated the advice and rest.

Shepherd? Evelyn almost had half a mind to roll her eyes at the term. She wasn’t some Wooloo, for Arceus’ sake. But, for the sake of keeping up appearances and maintaining the pretense of cooperation, she decided to let it slide—this time.[break][break]

Maldacena? Who was that? This contact was new. “Fair enough,” she said, her tone sharp but controlled. “Though I’d certainly love to learn more about them. Knowledge, after all, is power.”[break][break]

Her eyes narrowed slightly as she watched the so-called shepherd destroyed with the device. It was better to be safe than sorry. With the task done that meant a scene and different choices. Her excitement grew even if it comes at a cost, "Well, if I feel dizziness even the slight I will let you know."

Her Dragonite sneered at the exchange between its trainer and the other human, clearly unimpressed, before flying off to engage the new pair of Pokémon that had appeared. Both Pokémon had to team up just to keep pace with the battle-hungry dragon.[break][break]

Meanwhile, Evelyn was fighting a different kind of battle—one inside herself. Vulnerability had never come easily, not after years of pain. But this woman in front of her? She could read her like an open book. Evelyn knew Addy wasn’t truly gone—just buried under layers of resentment and loneliness. They were no different from one another, two snakes walking down a dark path.[break][break]

Both had lost their husbands. Evelyn’s had been a cheater, while Addy’s crimes went unspoken, but her pain was deeper—she had also lost a child. That, Evelyn knew, was the worst kind of pain. The very thought of a world without her own daughter was unimaginable, a nightmare too terrible to bear. Is that why you’ve become so cold?[break][break]

For a moment, Evelyn’s eyes softened as she looked at Addy, her emotions flaring briefly before she tried to regain control. She was showing a side of herself that was harder to reveal than any battle wound, and yet, she didn’t shy away. “You know,” Evelyn began softly, her voice a touch more gentle than usual, “it seems your scars are no different than my own.” She smiled faintly, though the pain lingered in her eyes. “It’s a weight I’ve always had to bear... but it doesn’t seem so heavy anymore. There was something unspoken in that moment—a mutual understanding of loss and pain, but also of care. Evelyn wasn’t trying to fix Addy or herself; she was simply offering a hand, a presence, and the comfort of knowing they didn’t have to carry their burdens alone.

Evelyn didn’t mean to arrive late—but could anyone really blame her? Well, they could, but she didn’t care. Besides, she wanted to see how her little masked ball of bitterness would handle things without her. Her style was impeccable as always, with her little Steenee clinging excitedly to her pant leg like she was her own child. Tonight, though, was all about having fun and spending time with someone who actually mattered to her. What better place than the Masquerade Ball? Hopefully, she hadn’t missed too much excitement in her absence. [break][break]

The violet-haired woman chuckled to herself, spotting Miss Bitter in the corner, naturally nursing a glass of champagne. Hmm, she didn’t look as grumpy as usual. Did something happen? A devious grin tugged at Evelyn’s lips as she casually grabbed a cocktail from a passing Haunter. “Well, well, there you are,” she cooed, gliding over with effortless grace.[break][break]

“I didn’t expect you to dress up,” she then teased, eyeing her companion with a playful glint. “The outfit looks so good on you. Honestly, you should dress like this more often when we go out. The silence hung heavily around them, but for once, Evelyn was oddly grateful for the nauseating stench—it gave her something to focus on other than the painful memories. When she accepted the offering, she tried not to dwell on everything that had led her here—the hatred and thirst for revenge that had driven her into this twisted fate. How could she keep this from Addy forever? She couldn’t. Not anymore.[break][break]

“There are many reasons,” she began, her voice quieter than usual. “Most of them have to do with why I’m a single mother now. I was wronged in every way possible by my family and my ex.” For a fleeting moment, she felt incredibly vulnerable, as though reopening old wounds she had long thought were healed and scarred over.[break][break]

She noticed two figures in the distance—a Bug-type and a Ghost-type—but paid them little mind. “Team Rocket has resources I can use to help find them,” she continued, her tone regaining some of its edge. “I intend to finish what I started.” [break][break]

For a moment, vulnerability flashed in her eyes, though she quickly recovered. “And the fact that you dared to join, It’s just the icing on the cake. Because if you can survive this mess, then so can I. Even if it’s as disgusting and trashy as all this,” she added with a faint, almost rueful smile. There was strength in her words, but beneath it, a deep, unspoken care for the one who had chosen to stand by her side. “And since you asked about me? What about you?”

Evelyn didn’t quite understand how she was supposed to describe it. It felt like she was burning all over, her body aflame with power, even though she hadn’t seen any move us. She could feel the spirit inside her, desperate to take control. Only after the spirit departed did she regain her composure, though she was thankful for Robin now more than ever. Her Gastly hovered nearby, protectively, as it should. After a few moments, she finally regained enough poise to speak, though her voice was slightly hoarse. “I’m feeling a bit better now.” She had never seen such a Pokémon—especially a ghost, for that matter. [break][break]

Evelyn got up, still a little dizzy but far too determined to let that stop her. “You’re right.” She couldn't help but think what she was about to do was being petty but in the face of her brilliance she didn't care. “Arsenia, use Shadow Ball.” Arsenia, ever loyal, complied without hesitation, sending a dark sphere toward the lingering spirit. The pair moved swiftly after that Evelyn relying on Robin for direction—though.[break][break]

Once they reached safety, Evelyn paused to catch her breath. "We should keep moving, though," she said, her eyes scanning for a suitable location. There was no time to waste. The thought of having to return to more research, facing more danger, or worse—encountering that ghost again—was annoying, yet she knew it was inevitable.[break][break]

Ah, finally! A rocky outcrop provided the perfect spot to conceal them. “I think we’re safe, at least for a moment. What a day,” she added with a sigh.

The night was young, and Eve felt as if she were young again. How many years had it been since she felt so alive and in control of her life. She was rising the ranks slowly an her odd friend by her side. She would be lying if she said it didn’t feel nice to have someone to chat with, especially when the nights were tough or experiments didn’t go as planned. Yet, she knew that the mighty masked would work herself to the bone if she didn’t speak up. She was just as driven as Addy, but the latter perhaps a bit more stubborn. That's why she pulled her away for a tonight when work was over.[break][break]

Time was always a curious thing. For Millie, it never seemed to be on her side. She always wanted to prove herself, to show her family that she could achieve greater things than her sister ever did. "Perfect, a new pet," she mused. She hadn't expected to capture it so easily, but life was full of surprises. She followed alongside Abby, doing her best to ignore the foul stench of waste. Thankfully, she wasn’t in her designer clothes—otherwise, this little venture would have been much more frustrating. She didn’t notice the large pile of trash—the Garbodor—until the light caught it and her masked friend took an interest. Yuck, not her style, but the nearby Meowscarada was. Their eyes met for a moment, making her grin. “Smyrna, be a good little dragon and get the kitty.”[break][break]

Her Dragonite snarled, giving her a dark look—Smyrna was nothing if not prideful. But the challenge seemed more appealing than disobeying her human. Lucky for her. The dragon lunged with Extreme Speed, but the feline was ready, claws honed with a wicked Night Slash. Smyrna hissed in pain, a mistake that cost the Meowscarada dearly. The Dragonite retaliated with a Hyper Beam, blasting the cat into the rocks.[break][break]

“I said get the kitty, not kill it,” she sighed.[break][break]

The dragon merely rolled her eyes, as if to say she knew her own strength, unlike some people. Both watched as the Meowscarada staggered slightly, eyes growing fierce. The power of Overgrow coursed through it—enough to do serious damage—if not for Smyrna pummeling it into the ground with Extreme Speed once more. Now the thing lay unconscious.[break][break]

“Well then,” she muttered.[break][break]

She masked her slight nervousness, tossing out another Pokéball. The cat would suffer for this later on. Every after went down she keep a smile looking at Addy, "Lucky for you, I don’t mind getting a little messy."[break][break]

Eve wondered how her little Buneary would react to more of its kind. She thought back to how the little rabbit used to run around and play with others, though some were more cautious of her presence than others. She knew the Lopunny, in particular, would give her serious, dark looks, but she paid them no mind.

After all, she had her Dragonite if things got too interesting. As Eve relaxed, the rabbits began to calm down as well. One even dared to come closer, which made her smile. This should be a piece of cake. She waited, a Pokéball hidden in her sleeve, ready for any that tempted fate. Only time would tell if one would.
