This was the second time Evelyn crossed the border, she felt a lingering weariness, though less intense than before. She was beginning to grow used to the unsettling energy that surrounded this strange realm. Having her Gastly with her helped—it brought a sense of calm, its ghostly presence reassuring in the eerie landscape. [break][break]

The spiritual bridges here were slowly breaking apart, as if being stretched to their limits. She didn't what this could meant but if where to find that girl again she could get answer. Yes, robin was her name. Unlike Robin, who seemed to understand this world with a deep, instinctive connection, Evelyn still felt like an outsider. The woman walked around for felt like hours until she discovered her.[break][break]

Whatever the joke or reason for snorting absinthe, Evelyn had long since shifted her focus from the trivialities of their banter to something far more important—their destination. As they finally arrived, she cast a quick, appraising glance at the building in front of them. From the outside, it didn't look like much. The weathered façade was dominated by a large Lucario face etched above the entrance, with the name "PokéPlate Bistro" in fading letters beneath it. Certainly, it wasn't the kind of opulence Evelyn was accustomed to. This wasn’t the luxury she normally surrounded herself with, but rather, a stroll down memory lane.[break][break]

"We're here," she announced with a faint smirk, pausing for a moment as her eyes lingered over the familiar, albeit modest exterior. "Not quite what you were expecting, hmm?" Her tone held an air of superiority, as if she was delighting in the contrast between their current surroundings and the extravagant lifestyle she typically enjoyed.[break][break]

Without waiting for a response, Evelyn strode confidently toward the entrance, her heels clicking against the pavement with an unmistakable elegance. It was that time again—when Absinthe would recount the day her life shattered. There were always linger reminders and hard days. It almost as terrible as the day her ex decided her sister was better than her, and everything she held dear fell apart. Each day since has been a painful reminder, every passing year a mark of longing and heartache. It was hard not to miss the days before, but if given the choice, she wouldn't return. That didn't stop the pain from lingering, coming and going like the seasons. And now, it seemed those feelings were creeping up on her once again. Absinthe feelings there no different than her own.[break][break]

This grave belonged to a man who had truly loved Absinthe with all his heart—a man who was tragically killed.[break][break]

Evelyn stood by the grave, her gaze lingering on the worn stone. It felt as if she had been staring at it for ages before she turned to Absinthe. Her face remained neutral, but her actions spoke louder than words. She gently wrapped her arms around her, offering comfort in the embrace. It was amazing how quickly they left the workshop and found themselves at the night market, surrounded by friendly faces and cheerful energy. If only Eve didn’t feel like she’d been punched in the gut. Ameena was right about feeling vertigo—it took her a few moments to gather her composure. The simulation felt so real at times. Everyone around her seemed to be having a good time, until this strange Pokémon appeared—a Blacephalon, or at least that’s what the simulation called it. Eve couldn’t take her eyes off it. It reminded her of the most disgusting things on Earth—clowns.[break][break]

“What the heck is that thing? Scratch that—I don’t want to know.”[break][break]

"Alright, let's hurry and get out of here," she muttered, calling her Gastly out of its Pokéball. "Dream Eater." The ghost tried to sap and the beast hoping to give them the edge.

I’m waiting. Evelyn could feel the discomfort growing in Absinthe, almost like a moody teenager reluctant to let down her chores. Whatever the season, she quietly relished the brooding aura her companion exuded. Court Jester? Chemist? Oh Please. “Well, Absinthe, as a chemist, you must know that every good reaction needs a bit of spontaneity. Just think of dancing as a lab experiment with some fun side effects.”[break][break]

Her eyes locked firmly onto Absinthe’s emerald gaze, even as her lips teased with a smirk. “Oh, darling, you have no idea who you’re dealing with,” she cooed, her voice smooth as a serpent, coiling around her dark desires and needs. “This life destroys people, sure—but not me. She tilted her head slightly, wondering. A promise. She never liked making them and preferred breaking them. She never saw herself as truly trustworthy, nor did she ever plan to be. But for this—this was different. For this, she would try. “I promise, come hell or high water. Until Hoenn burns beneath us, and our revenge is done, I’ll stay with you. You’re not the only one who needs someone to lean on now and just know, I don’t share.” A soft chuckle escaped her lips as she brushed a kiss against her.

Evelyn had been waiting for this moment, eager to see the so-called "phantoms" that Rocket had spoken so much about. She wasn’t as experienced in combat as absinthe , who had far more time in action. But Evelyn had learned enough from her to defend herself—especially against anyone, or more likely, any Pokémon that dared to irritate her. This situation wasn’t about personal offense, though. She knew these ghosts whatever they were extremely dangerous, and she needed to stay sharp.

She kept pace with Fenelle , hoping her fellow Rocket would prove to be the heavy hitter in this situation. Evelyn preferred to stay strategic, calculating every move, while relying on others for the brute force.

Oh a rotom she heard of these little ghost some would called them little ~~memes~~ but they had their usefulness. "I can them just fine no needed for it." While her sign language skills weren’t flawless, she understood enough to get the point. She signed back, translating her thoughts: "The feeling is mutual. No, I haven’t encountered them directly, aside from reports. But I know enough—once they catch sight of us, they won’t stop attacking until we take them down. Are you ready? If you get hurt, I’ll cover you."

“We’re almost there. Have a little patience, would you?” Evelyn sighed, rolling her eyes. Honestly, Addy was the champion of whining today. This is why she needed to drag her out more often—spending all day in a lab or behind a bar wasn’t going to do her any favors. Addy needed a break, whether she liked it or not.[break][break]

The sky was a clear sapphire, but the land below was in poor shape. The area had been badly damaged, with the uprooted remains of a geisha tree lying among the debris. Whatever Pokémon had come through must have been ravenous. Evelyn had her Combee with her, and with a little help from the rest of her team, she could revive the garden into a proper haven once more. The other berries in the area seemed to be ripening, but the destruction had slowed the process. Still, Evelyn was determined. She could already see how vibrant and lush the garden would be after a bit of care and attention. Excitement bubbled up inside her as she imagined the garden flourishing again, with sweet berries ripe for the picking and Pokémon buzzing happily among the flowers. Evelyn smiled, ready to get to work.

The girl yelps and quickly turns to face you. Her wide eyes lock onto yours, and she nods repeatedly, a deep ruby blush spreading across her face. "Y-yes, that's me!" she stammers, chuckling nervously as she rubs the back of her head. In her other hand, she clutches a thick notebook brimming with colorful sticky notes. "G-glad to meet you too, Absinthe. You’re much, um—cooler in person."[break][break]

But this isn’t the time for small talk. She refocus on the task at hand as she opens the notebook and steps closer, revealing a map of the area. "We need to study three different Pokémon in their natural habitats and record anything unusual or peculiar. It sounds easy, but the rarer the Pokémon, the more points we’ll earn. That’s one of the reasons We're here—there are so many possibilities, it’s overwhelming."

Her voice grows more serious as she leans in, her attention fixed on the book. Whether out of fear or a deep dedication to her research, it’s hard to tell. "This area has quite a few known spots. To the north, we might find Ghost and Dragon-types, while to the south, there’s a chance for Normal and Fighting-types. I’ve even heard rumors about Eevee and Lucario sightings. But there’s one more location... The East. I’m not sure what could be there."[break][break]

She gestures toward a section of tall grass on the map, her voice dropping a notch. "No one seems to go near it for some reason. It could be dangerous... or it could be rewarding. What are your thoughts? We can start wherever you pick."[break][break]
