“For one, stop yelling, and another—“ Andrea trailed off, feeling a nerve go in her forehead. God, she wasn’t in the mood to deal with asshats today. Why couldn’t they have a meal in fucking peace?

“…you do not want to get thrown like a rag doll.”

Moving before the other idiot could open his mouth and verbally assault them any further, she swept the guy’s legs out from under him, and in a blur of a few seconds’ worth of movement, had the other guy pinned to the dirt.

“Look, you do not want to mess with a hungry, angry lady,” she added, applying pressure on the man’s shoulder blade with her free elbow. “Keep the knife or I sic a Bewear on your ass.”

Clearly, Andrea was not in the mood to argue today, and she was… borderline hangry and not just the normal type of hungry. She wanted to enjoy her meal in peace, damn it!

“You know me,” she remarked as she reached for the can—heck, it was similar to the one she would down all the time back when they were in Shalour! Giving an appreciative grunt, she popped the top open with one finger before taking a deep breath and drinking half of the contents in one go.

“Merde, that hit the spot,” she mumbled, more to herself as she watched her brother pour himself another drink/ Normally she would have been alarmed by such behavior, but they were definitely way past the legal drinking age back home. Or anywhere in the world, for that matter.

“So… when did the drinking pick up?” she inquired as she leaned back on the couch, taking in the entirety of the view. The missing eye still bothered her, though.

“Good grief, old habits do die hard,” she mentioned at word of what Jayde was about. “The terrorist part I can definitely vouch for, given that whenever the top guns over there sent out people for demolition jobs and shit, and basically cause trouble, they always sent him out.”

She noticed that he was looking at the ID rather critically, before his demeanor relaxed somewhat as he loosened up.

“We? Who? Pretty sure that doesn’t cover our parents,” she added with an amused chuckle.

Why did it suck to be broke?!

Unlike her brother, who had a fat paycheck every fifteen days due to being in a higher position for the League now, she was still scavenging on the bottom rungs. Dwelling in the dredges, literally living on ‘welfare’ that was offered to poorer Trainers. Even if she shared the same surname as the newly-promoted Elite Four member, well, there were… quite a few snags that prevented her from living a comfortable life.

One of them was the fact that she had records that showed she was on the ‘other side’ previously; however it was for undercover work. The thing was…

Her bosses from all the way in Alola had disappeared, and so she was left high and dry. No immediate officer to report to, no liaison to speak with, and to make matters worse she was already running low on what little cash she had!

It was a miracle she was still alive and kicking. How did she survive? She had no idea, honestly. Living day to day was… getting tiring, honestly. She needed something… more.

So when word was sent out that there was a farm near Littleroot that was looking for volunteers to keep watch over a herd of ‘Wooloo’, she decided to check it out…

Of course, not knowing she wasn’t going to be alone in this mess. Either way…

“Hey, you’re the one I’ll be working with?” she inquired once she’d arrived at the opposite side of the fence. Damn, she was tempted to scale it and join the other person but had to make sure she was talking with the correct guy!

“Oi, merde, give me like at least five seconds warning before you summon out that giant-ass whale!”

Of course, this was Andrea yelping as she was very nearly squashed into the wall as her brother had literally thrown out the single biggest Pokémon that proved the cave was a tiny, dank, cramped little space, before finally managing to peel herself off once there was sufficient wiggle room to move around in.

“Honestly,” she grumbled in her brother’s direction, “…sometimes you give no warning at all. Anyway!” she recovered a few moments later as she straightened up and outright chuckled at Selena’s words. “Yeah, we all grew up together. Although we had our motivations for departing Kalos, it wasn’t without due reason.”

Once she was sure she had enough room, she smirked.

“Thanks for the save, brother,” she added as she threw out the borrowed Pokéball she had with her, revealing a Greninja that was most certainly familiar to Thomas.

“Look, he’s here, alright? I’ll just be borrowing your power for a bit. Hydro Cannon that spot over there!” she added, pointing at the soaked rock.

Hoping that she wasn’t going to obliterate the entire section of wall, the Greninja looked over at Thomas, confused for all of 0.5 seconds before nodding and releasing a powerful blast of Hydro Cannon at the already-soaked wall, hoping to dredge away the dirt and reveal what lay underneath.

Ooh… shinies?!

“You know me, I’m always down for lemon cola,” she remarked, finally allowed access and stepping into the modest-sized residence. God, how long had it been since she’d been inside a proper house?

It was always living out on the run, transience, capsule hotels, and cheap Pokémon Center backroom accommodations whenever she got the chance. Especially when she had to bail. To run. To hide from what she had left behind.

The change-over was what had forced her to turn tail and run. Even if she wasn’t able to get much and rise through the ranks, she was at least able to obtain useful information that could be used. Once she’d managed to get back to Maile and make her report in person, that is.

The name pulled at her memory, before she tilted her head to one side. “Yeah. Heard of that name before. Kinda had a nasty rep among the Grunts—“ she drawled on, before the color drained out of her face and she had to sit down.

Oh, there it fucking was.

It was time to make everything awkward in one fell swoop.

“Guess I should show you why.”

Reaching into her back pocket, she pulled out her wallet, before fishing something out and tossing it on the table, face-up for him to see.

“Feel free to check that for authenticity. I’m sure you can, given what tools you have with you right now.”

After the Thunderbolt revealed a little part of the wall, the glint of the shinies sparkled in her eyes before Andrea turned to her brother.

“Hey. Hey, look,” she hissed, elbowing him in the side. “They look sparkly, but… which way should we go next?”

There were so many options and choices to choose from, however there was something niggling at her about the left side right next to the part of the wall they’d managed to bust open. Even if it felt like a trap…

“Step back,” she remarked, recalling Antoinette and popping out another Pokéball and this time summoning Catherine, her semi-useless Bewear. Once the fluffy sentient bedroom animal appeared, she pointed at the wall.

“Brutal Swing—only, Cath, please don’t wreck the entire place and cause a cave-in? Use Brutal Swing GENTLY!” she emphasized the very last word with as much gesturing as possible.

Confused, but happy to be out, the Bewear waddled over and proceeded to thwack the living daylights out of the left side of the wall with its ‘gentlest’ application of Brutal Swing.

She couldn’t help but wonder about their other companion, though. Sure, she knew Selena from their days back in Kalos (and obviously Tom because duh, siblings) but the red-haired young man, she wondered—why did it feel like she’d seen him somewhere before?

Like a case of déjà vu?

She didn’t know how her brother had roped her into this shit.

At least they were going to be travelling together, in a group, doing something by… excavating? What? Blinking confusedly, she made sure her boots were well up and out of the way before she realized something.

“Guys…?” she began hesitantly, remembering where they were. “Do you all think it’s a good idea using… Electric-type attacks in a water-filled cave?”

She hoped her warning didn’t fall on deaf ears as she unballed her Kirlia, Antoinette. Sighing with intense trepidation and hoping they weren’t going to get electrocuted, she pointed at the spot where everyone else had lasered their attacks on.

“Thunderbolt that for us, will you? Aim it exactly precisely, though! Don’t zap everyone standing in the water!” she added hastily before the Kirlia let loose with a potent bolt of electricity.
