Thin, pale streams that pulled faintly beneath the eyes; against the crease of her brow. Age blessed her face like the crinkling of paper. Though they were insignificant grooves, she knew that with time these marks would grow deeper—following the passage, like walking a trail and watching the nature recede the further it was tread; it was the taming of a smooth landscape.[break][break]

Thirty years from now, she wondered how deep they would fold.[break][break]

She could try to hide it—makeup, skin-care products, moisturizer.[break][break]

“I'm gonna dry up any day now,” because it felt like time was spinning too fast; but, the thought does not scare her. Better old age than a hyper beam. Better old age than a shot to the gut. Better old age than being burnt to a crisp.[break][break]

Bailey Cooper pulled at the skin beneath her eye, stretching out the insignificant lines until they were even harder to see.[break][break]

“Will you still love me if I aged like curdled milk?” The question was followed by a head tilt, and she could feel the uneven bristle of her bangs against her marred forehead as she gazed at the lovable ball on her bathroom counter.[break][break]

Chubs clapped his flippers.[break][break]

“Of course you would,” and she kissed him atop his perfect, round head.[break][break]

Night graced the expanse of the farm, where the plots laid empty and the air was cold from the winter's chill. That would have to change; but, for now, Bailey Cooper was content with the silence.

“Wow Miss Cooper! You made a really good snowman!” Said one of the judges as they approached the dysfunctional member of the Elite Four, who was slurping down Peppermint Schnapps from a flask that she made no effort to hide.

“What are you on about?” Her breath burned from the mint and from the booze.

“Your... snowman,” and Bailey would let her eyes follow the pointed finger, over her shoulder, to the backdrop of snowmen and one that did not look like the others.

“Uh. I didn't make that. I'm just... standing here.” How did someone do those flames? How did they animate them? Its cold, burning eyes stared at them from the crowd... and when Bailey glanced back, she could have sworn it was even more intense than before.

And even closer?

"What the fuck?"

And that was when it bounced.

Bailey Cooper wondered if it was shock that made her downward decent feel so fast—one moment, she had been atop the precipice, and then the next? She opened her eyes to look upward at the gray, overcast sky where distance could not be discerned.[break][break]

“Ow,” and that felt like an understatement as the pain began to register. It came as a dull ache, progressing into something sharp and stinging as it built behind her eyes like a migraine. “Ow. Fuck. Shit.”[break][break]

She was certain she had screamed as she tumbled down the cliff face—words that she cannot recall, but were most likely foul.[break][break]

Cursing was supposed to help with pain, right?[break][break]

She heard the familiar pops of her pokeball capsules. Light, as faint as it was, was obscured by the shadows of her pokemon as they all emerge to stare down at their injured trainer. Some were concerned. Some were downright impressed. [break][break]

“Did I hit my head?”[break][break]

Several nods, as if to suggest that it had been hit more than once.[break][break]

“Does that mean I'm con... concusted?” Was that a word?[break][break]

Her team of pokemon gave a collective shrug.[break][break]

She rolled. With her knees pressed into the damp wet grass, she let her forehead rest against the ground just to feel something cold; there was no ice packs. “I fucked up,” but there was no blood or broken bones to be felt.[break][break]

Bailey Cooper was sore, but still intact, as she finally stood herself upright. “Um, what do you do if you smack your head? Uh? Remember... phone numbers? Weird factoids?” Beneath her breath, she mutters old addresses, wondering if that was really an indicator of if she had suffered actual brain damage.[break][break]

“I can't remember this shit half the time anyway,” and as she gave up her task, turned to look at the sheer-facing wall of rock that stood before her. “And only way to go is up, I guess?”[break][break]

Fidget, the Decidueye, extended out her wings as if to suggest flying over this obstacle.[break][break]

“Nah, we can't see shit. I don't want you smashing into something... and dropping me,” and the elite four member would spit into her hands, then quickly rub them together. “I'll chance it. You guys stand down here in case I slip. I don't want to fall twice.”[break][break]

She would climb; her hand reaching above her to find something to clasp.[break][break]

if this was a dream, then this would be the wakeup call.[break][break]

the sequence of bright lights had a purpose to serve; Bailey shielded her eyes, knowing that her team had fallen into position. It was time for the all-out assault. It was time for the last push. if this was some contorted dreamscape like everyone had said, then it was time to shut this shit down.[break][break]

she wouldn't consider the alternatives.[break][break]

even as more of the loops descend, turning the battlefield into a treacherous minefield, they press onward; seeking the gap for them to all strike. they would have to aim well. they would have to hope that luck would be on their side, just this once, as they blended together.[break][break]

"Go!" and Bailey screamed so loud, she could feel her vocal cords pull until they were strained.[break][break]

What came next was synchronized; all surviving members of her team jumping into motion, using all of their strength to spring up from the ground. To the legendary, they might have seemed like no more than fleas ready to take a bite--[break][break]

but they would make sure that their bite would fucking hurt.[break][break]

first came blastoise; size made him unable to leap to the same height as his brethren, but he would make up of it with brute might as he slammed himself against the opposing force; a skull bash that was aimed for the legendary's sternum in an attempt to drive the air straight from its lungs. [break][break]

and from that jump emerged two more; decidueye and tsareena as they use blastoise's shell for leverage to jump even higher, using their companion as a springboard. their attacks are executed in unison, the two bodies weaving around each other as close as a coil; sucker punch and trop kick as decidueye would latch her talons to catch tsareena to keep her from plummeting back to the sea of loops.[break][break]

the best was saved for last.[break][break]

it was a sight that bailey hadn't beheld since the battle with regirock.[break][break]

togekiss had latched to kommo-o, letting her talons slip beneath the familiar groove of his scales to find the perfect, practiced grip. as the other three members of the team descended downward, these two rose, higher and faster as the undying marshmallow executed extreme speed to heave her and her compatriot from the ground; howling like a firework seeking the sky.[break][break]

and at the last moment, she would throw him; his fist glowing bright and white with a collected energy that honed to the enemy's presence.[break][break]

Kapow had always dreamed of the chance of punching another legendary in the face; sky upperpunch would be the force that would carry his momentum, pulling him up that final stretch as he would swing with all the force that his body could muster.[break][break]

he aimed his fist, seeking to strike right between the eyes.[break][break]

“Not like I really care—they got this new show, something called shalter dego. Has... uh... superheroes or some shit. First episode aired tonight.”[break][break]

Her eyes catch the clock, noticing how the hands had twisted. Contorted and pulled, the big hand had shown itself against a different number. It was getting late.[break][break]

“It's already that late?” and she blamed the conversation, knowing that words could make second stretch short.[break][break]

Long gone was the sun of the late evening; it was night. “What the hell happened?” and she chugged down the last sip of her water, waiting for even the smallest of droplets before returning it to the counter. “It's already been three hours.”[break][break]

“...Fuck. Wanna go dutch, or do you got this?” and Bailey Cooper was already fishing for her wallet, just to confirm that it was still on her person.[break][break]

She had a habit of misplacing things while drunk. “Cause I gotta stop drinking. Before I get into trouble.”

bailey cooper felt that same sense of eerie calm as she beheld a horror that had failed to kill her on multiple occasions; not once, not twice, but for a fourth time she beheld a glory that was all consuming.[break][break]

after so many encounters, she knew to cast her gaze to the enemy as togekiss drifted in for a landing. The pokemon cast the elite four member, and Bailey hit the ground running; her boots squeaking across the platform's floor. she knew if she looked back, she would only behold what had been wiped clean.[break][break]

people and pokemon wiped away like a hand against a water condensed windshield.[break][break]

from her peripheral, she can catch the sight of gold as one of the loops honed in. "Fuck--!" the elite four member was not an impressive sprinter. thankfully, her pokemon could compensate for her poor fitness.[break][break]

At the last possible second, right before the loop could make contact, togekiss would sideswipe the approaching weapon with a controlled blast; an aura sphere that would swoop under the loop and then up to collide against the edge, positioned like a hand that was attempting to flip over a table.[break][break]

And while that happened, she snatched the pokeballs from her belt to redeploy the team, letting them scatter to both sides of her. it was time for the counter attack. it was time to strike before the enemy could have a chance to deploy another hyper beam.[break][break]

"HEY ASSHOLE!" She'd shout, feeling her breath constrict from running across the platform. "HOPE YOU DON'T HAVE TINNITUS!"[break][break]

And if the legendary so much as glanced in her direction, it would catch a faceful of dazzling gleam as her togekiss released an explosive light from her body; energy screeching as if the pokemon were a flash bang.[break][break]

Blastoise would use flash cannon. just for good measure.[break][break]

tldr: togekiss uses aura sphere on the loop to change its directory before it can catch bailey. togekiss then uses dazzling gleam like a flash bang in conjuncture with blastoise's flash canon.

Why was boss music playing?[break][break]

Bailey Cooper was growing use to the feeling of being outmatched; the sight of the legendary can only conjure to her mind all of the destruction that these pokemon are capable of exerting. A hyper beam that can carve a landscape. A fist that could crush mountains. These are the images that come to her mind as she stared at the sight before her.[break][break]

It was just another mountain to climb, right?[break][break]

She forced a smile, knowing that in her efforts that it would strain into a grimace; the loops that hung overhead were her first priority. While everyone divided themselves and focused on different fronts, the Elite Four member would snatch two pokeballs from her belt and release the pokemon contained within.[break][break]

Did color coordinate to type, like the gate? Would it react to moves of the same type, or would it react to the moves that type would be weak against?[break][break]

Unsure, Bailey figured she would never come to an answer unless she struck.[break][break]

Two attacks were launched in tandem, each aimed for their respective color. Blastoise with Hydro Pump. Decidueye with Leaf Blade; her ability activating to extend the length of the blade to a long, whip-like construct.[break][break]

They couldn't allow any more contenders to join the fight.[break][break]

Doing nothing was the answer.[break][break]

Bailey Cooper stood dumbfounded as the elevator was engulfed in flames, subjected to the cries of the pokemon as they were unable to escape their fate. The gun in her hand feeling far lighter with the realization that a bullet would not have to be planted between her eyes.[break][break]

“Holy shit,” and she cannot be relieved, because the death that overtook the three elevators was staggering to behold.[break][break]

They said that it was the suffocation that would kill you when immolated—the surrounding fire would suck away the oxygen long before it could have the chance to burn to anything vital. If that was true, then how were these pokemon able to scream?[break][break]

Togekiss had been perched on her shoulder, untouched by the flames by the virtue of standing still.[break][break]

Her hand touched her fairy friend, unable to stop its light tremor. Pure, dumb luck had kept her alive—or, maybe, it was because Bailey Cooper had stuck to her gun and refused to partake in a desperate effort to save her own skin.[break][break]

The door opened.[break][break]

She walked out.[break][break]

Bailey Cooper fell into her own world, trying to ignore the disputes that were bound to arise—this was not the time. kyle lopez was right.[break][break]

Her hands reached for her remaining pokeballs, deploying Kapow; her dragon's scales flared at the sound of the encroaching roar. It was time for another fight.[break][break]
