mcflurry heard the seawater surge in and her steelix registered the cracks in the cave ceiling before anyone else. her glalie easily protected against some of the falling debris from the failing tunnel attempt.

"aw, mccrap — t-turn around! turn around!"

with that, the train of pokemon quickly made a u-turn underground as ocean water started pouring into the cave. damn, they hadn't even left the mainland basically, and the seabeds were this fragile? talk about bad luck.

mcflurry emerged out the beach ground holding onto her hat, her steelix looking a little wet from the soaked ground it was attempting to dig through.

"o-okay, not — that was a mcterrible idea, that. ...hm?"

mcflurry squinted, staring into the distant wave from her perch. and then, she freaked the fuck out, her voice quivering.

"tidal wave... tidal wave! magnet rise!"

the steel-type behemoth reacted accordingly, a strong magnetic field lifting its body. almost miraculously, the huge iron snake began to fly into the air, reaching the same altitude as the airborne megalopan forces in order to dodge the tidal wave.

mcflurry's eyes widened as she saw the naganadels and hordes of flying type pokemon. pulling out a poke ball, she released her abomasnow, and the ice-type begun holding onto another spike of the flying steelix.

"ugh, c'mon, we — aw, i don't want to get shot down..."

abomasnow's snow warning caused the clouds to gather above as the temperature started dropping rapidly. as hail started building up at their altitude, mcflurry's three other pokemon started firing off their anti-air support preemptively.

soon enough, two blizzards and a charge-powered discharge would start causing some huge area damage to the skies above.

- mcflurry's steelix turned around! luckily, since they were only a short distance away (judging by the "few feet" comment in the mod post), she pops out on the beach relatively quickly.
- steelix used magnet rise, rising above the tidal wave — and subsequently meeting the megalopan forces at the same altitude.
- abomasnow's snow warning! the skies start to become more cloudy and colder! hail is starting to accumulate around mcflurry's position!
- abomasnow used blizzard! it targets any megalopan forces nearby! the attack is more potent and nigh-unavoidable due to hail!
- glalie used blizzard! it targets any megalopan forces nearby! the attack is more potent and nigh-unavoidable due to hail!
- golem used discharge! it targets any megalopan forces nearby! double the power from the charge from the previous round!

mcflurry sighed. it was true, wasn't it? just how much she got in trouble. first, showing up on a raft of ice, and now this? at the same time, though...

...well. with the swollen, bloody lip and the way she carried herself, captain dross seemed really off-kilter as well. mcflurry's compassion won out easily over her exasperation.

"you, uh — sorry. but you mclook like shit," mcflurry murmured, rubbing the side of her face that stung with the chemical itch of the antidote working its wiles, "we should probably get mcgoing. my place is... my place is close."

with that, mcflurry sighed and started walking her way further into the darkened streets, looking backwards to make sure skyler was following.

mcflurry's wormadam gave a dirty look at a gastly looking to get its fight on, apparently eager to join the rest of the crew. a quick psychic sent it flying away, scurrying off.

"what're you — doing here? did you get into a mcstreet fight or, uh, something?"

participating in a war was about the last thing mcflurry wanted to do when she came to this region.

mcflurry felt she was over her head. she didn't know why she followed orders and came here. she could have just as easily left, fucked off somewhere near lilycove and told them she'd been there, just not as useful. she could have easily deserted rocket in its entirety, but —

but it would be wrong. letting people die like that when she had several able-bodied pokemon, all of them combat-ready. everyone was putting their life on the line to make this defense, and it would be wrong to try and evade that.

...at the same time, though. she wasn't completely gung-ho about, uh. joining the navy or the air force or whatnot. she'd just — she'd just do things her own way, taking her time and trying to move forward without too many issues. which meant...

"steelix, use — use dig! mc!"

and in that moment, mcflurry was gone from the battlefield, now several fathoms underground. all that was left was a giant hole in the beach that just about anyone could travel into.

underneath the ground, mcflurry had her phone's map open as she latched onto her steelix, digging through the ground under the relatively shallow coastal earth. she needed to start building a tunnel underneath the islands, so that she could maybe make a surprise attack on whatever trainers they have camping out on them.

in the meantime, her alolan golem was magnetically glued to one of steelix's spikes, and her glalie stuck close to her side. prepping for the battle, the alolan golem started using charge, boosting its power for whatever came next, and the glalie prepared a protect just in case.

home, which had everything she loved, all the beauty and warmness and happiness and love and the little children playing with balls and the rangers with their capture stylers and the —

(control. control she had over her life, control she had over her pokemon, control she had over people, but now, now, now she needs to kill, now she needs to hurt people to make any sense, now she needs to —)

ancient fire burns under mcflurry's skin, and she clenches her teeth as her eyes turn piercing white, her irises just plain disappearing in the bright light.

"— vincible!"

a pocket underneath her coat glows through all her layers of clothing, and the thrum of mega evolution pulls the entire section of the cave into a deep pressure, and a sphere of shining power started expanding and refracting under the deep, frozen lake beneath the two of them —

the center section of the frozen floor shatters in a flurry of fractals and crystals, and mcflurry's glalie's jaw unhinges and snaps out of its own skull.

the mega glalie's cry echoes fiercely behind his trainer — and mcflurry's low, gravelly roar joins in.

as its unhinged jaw bellowed, a superpowered blizzard suddenly covered the entire area, sending a storm of wind towards gavin and coalossal, exponentially worse than the snow warning. all ability to see was just — gone. the entire room was whited out.

as much as she felt like she was doing the right thing, she really didn't like the idea of being... silent. it felt wrong.

slit throats and poison and daggers all popped up in her brain, and it made her feel a little sick. at least up here, she could say she got the job done without having to feel a body go cold. at least up here, she couldn't see the light fade from their eyes.

(at least here, she could hit their things and not them, and make the excuse that there's no difference.)

"let's — let's go loud. i'm no good at stealth."

sighing, mcflurry made the first move out of the two of them, letting the ninja follow her tempo as he wanted.

the megalopan's quiet days of silent productivity were quickly interrupted by a gigantic steelix soaring across the air, hovering above them —

and then the ground itself started to crack and shudder, before gigantic rocks started arising like geysers out of the ground, their stone edges incapacitating a dozen smaller pokemon.

mcflurry shrugged, taking a set of tongs and stirring the noodles, feeling them out, seeing how long they needed to cook. the rich man looking over her shoulder only bothered her a little.

"for as long as — as long as i've mcleft the house. i, uh, i guess..." mcflurry trailed off, turning around and grabbing the ground beef and just dumping all of it in the tomato sauce, breaking it apart with her spoon, "twelve — twelve years, then?"

mcflurry shrugged, before reaching around maddonis, sliding an arm around his side to grab the salt and pepper behind him. ...unfortunately, this also caused some unwarranted bodily contact, something that mcflurry didn't notice or even think about until the deed was done.

"— ah. you're mcthere. oops?"

she gave a nervous laugh, before turning away a moment too quickly, dumping in her salt and pepper.

a familiar voice rings out in the night, just as mcflurry sets her ice cream bowl on the ground, yanking out an antidote and spraying it all over her face before she starts having a terrible reaction to the poison.

"ach, mcyuck, pweh — wait, huh — captain?"

mcflurry barely gets the words out of her mouth before a cat yowls, its spine arcing way upwards from its perch atop the wall the gloom just slammed into. the tiny woman can only groan and sigh as wormadam readies itself once more.

"haw, mcchrist, i just — i just mcwanted some ice cream —"

as mcflurry whines, the alolan meowth comes down with an angry set of tough claws, pouncing onto wormadam in a blur. its fury swipes barely does anything to the thick leafy coat — all of mcflurry's pokemon were defensively-minded and well-trained under rocket and far better than this half-starved stray, even with its ability.

"ughh. b-bug buzz!"

mcflurry picks her ice cream up, trying to retreat back to the ice cream shop while her wormadam finishes the job. but then the shutters close and a tired-looking employee with a 5 o' clock shadow and mussy hair locks the door with deadened eyes, and mcflurry groans as she feels the lock click.

"— and they mclocked the door. man... the pokemon're just gonna keep mccoming at this rate. sorry, cap."

the dizzied-then-fainted cat at the wormadam's feet(?) laid unconscious, its eyes swirling and twitching with the nervous feedback of a bug buzz. figuring this was yet another stray to take care of, mcflurry shook her head, squatted down, and pressed a poke ball to its body.

usually, mcflurry would be pretty against the idea of joining a war.

"war of the worlds"... honestly, it sounded ridiculous. but with the ultra wormholes and stuff, it was feasible. still, alien or not, she wasn't really that into war. it didn't sit well with her.

until she was atop her steelix using magnet rise, silently slinking around the miniature forests of some random island next to pacifidlog.

injections to wild pokemon using — some sort of poison. drugging them instead of catching them. pokemon losing their minds and consent.

as she stared through her binoculars at the megalopan campsite, this shit was fucked. she'd join this war.

the mission today was simple. rocket had their forces running several neutralization operations across the water routes. this was one of them.

"mmmck. you — you ready?"

as mcflurry's steelix hid behind the tall green foliage, she side-eyed the ninja next to her. this was going to be a quick in-and-out.
