her eyes lit up when maverick said he could help her. thank goodness. the sun was slowly beginning to creep down the horizon as dusk was fast approaching. savannah really, really did not want to be stuck on a mountain in the middle of the night.

savannah watched diligently as he pointed to their location on the map. yeah.. that wasn’t where she thought she had wound up. not in the slightest.

she repeated the directions over and over again, trying to ingrain them into a file in her memory. when the dark haired male paused, savannah unconsciously tilted her head to the side.

”oh!” savannah was relieved when he offered to escort her back to civilization but, ”are you sure? i don’t wanna be a bother.” although he claimed to be tired, savannah was worried that she was putting an abrupt end to his trip. if that was true, he surely would have shoo’d her off, right? but what if he was like her and preferred to appease others before himself?

wild pokemon were scarce in orre. well, pokemon in general lacked a presence in the region. however, there was one pokemon species that she had seen a lot growing up: houndour and houndoom. unfortunately, her encounters with the hounds had never been all that pleasant. gangs, criminals, and troublemakers alike all gravitated towards these intimidating pokemon. there was also an awful underground pokemon fighting scene: houndour and houndoom were popular in the rings as they could be trained in specific ways.

the memories caused her stomach to churn as her hands instinctively clenched into tight fists. there had been a lot of horrors back home but she couldn’t let them haunt her forever. this was an entirely different region. yet still..

savannah was relieved when maverick changed the subject. she chuckled awkwardly as she rummaged for the map she had hastily thrown into her bag. ”i guess you could say i need help.” she awkwardly chuckled. ”i ain’t quite sure how i got ‘ere. i was headin’ for some town.” which she couldn’t even remember the name of ”and somehow ended up ‘ere.” saying it out loud only emphasized how pathetic she looked in her eyes.

she didn’t have one of those fancy, new-fangled phones that gave directions. her phone couldn’t even text! unfortunately, a map wasn’t detailed enough to correct her mistakes. she couldn’t figure out where she even was on the map.. besides knowing that she was somewhere on the big mountain based on the low-quality grade picture provided

naturally, the pompous snob had to get in the last word. meanwhile, savannah didn’t try to get a last second, snarky comment in. she was just glad that the woman was backing down and leaving the area.

good riddance.

as the tension died down, a “phew” escaped her pursed lips. she was glad it didn’t escalate further. her weak backbone could only handle so much. speaking up to someone wasn’t a normal day occurrence. her papa always told her to stand up for others when she could, though. too bad she didn’t include herself in the same category as “others”.

savannah sheepishly tugged at her hat as the man thanked her. ”oh, uh, don’t mention it.” that hadn’t come out the way she wanted to. her cheeks burned red as she continued to fiddle with her hat. ”my name is savannah. good to meet you both.”

momentarily, her eyes were fixated on the houndoom. please don’t eat me. ”i reckon anyone would think that. it’s ‘er own fault for leavin’ the poor pup outta sight and by itself for so long.”

savannah stumbled upon the scene by accident. she had simply been staring at her map when she nearly walked into the crossfire of the argument:, confused as heck about how she climbed a dang mountain without knowing she was going in the wrong. was the dramatic inline in terrain not a big enough clue? well, she could figure that out later. there was a more pressing concern.

she had intended to scoot away but then the woman pointed out the man’s disfigured face. what. the. fuck??? and people called her a bumpkin? at least she had manners!

typically, savannah didn’t butt into conversations but today was different. ”you ‘eard him. it was jus’ an accident.” her arms folded across her chest to hide her nervous tremble. ”didn’t your mama teach you not go runnin’ your mouth when you no nothin’ ‘bout this fella? heck, even if you know ‘im, common manners should kick in. it ain’t right to assume anythin’ ‘bout a person. y’know what they say about people who assume, right?”

she didn’t know why she felt so defensive for the unknown stranger. maybe because, in a way, she could relate. while she didn’t have any visible scars.. she certainly wouldn’t want someone wagging a finger and bringing up her past.

Oh Arceus yes. She could see the finish line. But why did it still look so far away? Drenched in sweat, her parched throat longed for a nice, cold glass of water. Granted.. she could cool off by jumping into the water alongside her Dratini but (a) she didn't know how deep it was and (b) she didn't want to draw any unnecessary attention to herself. Embarrassment already caused her ears to burn red: why had she thought signing up for this would be fun? Thankfully, there was a nice breeze.. even if all it accomplished was assaulting her with more heated air.

dratini was flourishing in this water race, achieving great agility. maybe not as much as the speedy sharpedo but it was still a step up from her feeble attempt at flying in the ground race. thoughts fleeted back to her pond in the safari zone. she never knew how much wonder had been out there!

savannah nearly slipped off one of the skipping stones but managed — somehow — to correct herself. clumsiness be darned! she was not getting wet today.

 Y'know.. Savannah felt like gucci today (although her shabby attire would argue otherwise). "Gucci" was a slang word she heard not too long ago. It was catchy! Instead of feeling good, you felt gucci. What a fun word! Outdated, too, but she didn't know that. Instead, she was busy wondering where exactly the word "gucci" came from. Well, a lot of slang were random words like "yeet"! Savannah was positive that wasn't a real word but people had used it.. so maybe she was just missing something?

Little did she know that gucci was associated with an expensive name brand. She'd probably never find out, either. Savannah couldn't even afford to look at all the fancy clothes in those expensive af (that meant as f-!) boutiques. 

In unusually bright spirits, the blonde haired woman whistled a little working song to herself. Her head was lost somewhere in the atmosphere, surrounded by fluffy clouds. Too busy daydreaming, Savannah didn't notice the gathering until she was practically on top of another person. And I oop-

Brown eyes danced and shimmered as she spotted the focus of the people's attentions. A Pokemon runway show - how wonderful! She was oblivious to the fact that the adorable, exotic fruit looking Pokemon nor its larger, more elegant, counterparts were actually running and not strutting down a catwalk. No doubt she'd find out later and feel horrible for enjoying the spectacle but, for now, she simply enjoyed the scene. It wasn't her fault that the sassy become looked stunning even when fleeing danger!

Others around her were readying Pokeballs. Oh, wait. Was this some sort of contest? Savannah also pulled out one of her Pokeballs, afraid that she'd look out of place. Although she just wanted to enjoy the show.. it couldn't hurt to participate, right?
