He only "freestyled" once in a while.

Find a place he liked, sample the menu and if it lacked he offered to pick up a shift for free and lend his culinary expertise.

Sometimes he developed a good rapport with the owners and came back to help in the kitchen for no preset amount of time, rub elbows and snack on free samples.

The truth of it was after living in Hoenn (publicly) for exactly fifty weeks now, Sénon Game was a known name in a lot of professional kitchens. That was why he was here in this club tonight.

Why he was working the bar? That was another story.

The smell of the sea at the Slateport Harbor & Shipyard wasn't the same as the sea's smell on the shore of Cinnabar Island. Comparatively, this place smelled like fish and saltwater.

To a more aware nose however, the Harbor smelled like money.

The import and export business was booming in most regions, but Hoenn stronger than most.

It took a particular hand to keep a proper stranglehold on reigns of the Harbor. The recent activity he began to notice from his apartment views via Lower Slateport (and his secret "vigilante" moonlighting about the city outskirts, if you had to call it that), seemed to imply the Harbor had such a person now.

Sénon was dead set to meet such a person.

So here he was. "Mr. Black."

When Cooler Heads Prevail (M)

In the aftermath of the Hoenn Star Tournament the shorelines of Slateport had gone deserted in the day.

The areas were too hot and while he had the resources to stay under cait alfric and central cooling air systems, some people weren't as fortunate.

The alolan exeggutor weren't many but the few of them Slateport had did wonders to entertain beach visitors while they protected people from the sun.

Fire was no good for any exeggutor including the alolan ones but they took to humid temperatures far better than their Kantonian cousins.

For them to wander off, he suspected they didn't go on their own.

He needed to find them as a public service to the beach. He turned to his left hand to ponder a scenario.

"What do you think 'Lu? Dragon fight or poachers?"

Now that the Star Tournament was over he could rest up and life could get back to normal as Hoenn would allow.

Weather reports cited today as day one of a potential heatwave to strike the region, urging citizens to remain in doors unless needed to assist pokémon.

Hence Sénon's smaller ice types keeping the place cooled to a crisp.

He didn't have any assignments today and after putting work on the front pilot instead of Cait, it was works turn to go on the back burner.

Not to mention....

"Cut that out." Snom had to be carefully peeled off of the skin of John Sullivan again.

The kid seemed out of it in the best way possible, he was probably going to wake up hungry enough to start eating appliances.

He couldn't quite remember how young "J.D." had gotten to his apartment, most because he'd been drinking afterhours last night too.

He did remember promising nachos though.

His 'daddy'-sense began to go off when he realized Cait wasn't in the room. "Cai?" His apartment wasn't big so he knew she wasn't missing or in danger, yet the 'daddy'-sense went off all the same.

Damn thing must have been broken.

You didn't know fear until you were at ground zero of what you feared was about to become absolute zero.

Articuno's banshee bird shriek in the face of their rocky take down was a bad sign. It sounded more angered than pained, although the reality was easily both.

Too proverbially frozen to try to get away Sénon watched as the Kanto Legend arctic bombed the battlefield.

It wasn't until the Ranger opened his eyes expecting to be frozen solid did he see Heatran standing to protect him taking Articuno's attack wrapped it in a layer of frost it was already melting away.

If there was one pokémon that Articuno was a terrible match for, it was Heatran. Little chimchar wasn't so lucky, being blown back and fainted by articuno's cold served revenge.

Another STONE EDGE put Articuno on ice,

This place had good cheese fries.

""Ranton and Hiei are two of my most experienced." They did manage to take out two of the other team before they went down. ""I guess they were just unlucky." They were going to be pissed when they woke up.

All the more reason for Sénon to sit here and enjoy the entrees and get Kingsman to gain some weight.

Both of his pokémon being fainted and Razz having to save the day.

It was surreal how Sénon locked on in battle and could ignore the crazy implications and stakes and simply focus on the task at hand.

For the rest of his life he would remember this battle as fast paced, intense and near magical.

But right now, he just wanted to win.

Articuno's majesty was clear even a sturdy Heatran and prodigal chimchar could produce enough fire to turn over its icy dominion.

Maybe a different approach could have a much bigger impact.

"use STONE EDGE!" he turned to chimchar "ASSIST!"

Doing as Heatran did Chimchar did his best to emulate one of his partners moves.

And what luck, of the six moves Heatran could do Chimchar managed to do just the one Heatran was currently doing.

With Articuno throwing ice and all manner of cold at every fire attack they made there a break in strategy.

Ignore the frigid bird, focus on the surround-able fighter.

Heatran didn't like the punches in the least but he was such a big target chimchar was easily able to hop on the infernape while he attacked the magma-gecko, delivering more ACROBATIC knees and elbows to the larger ape's head and back.

Heatran then repeating its ground leveling ruptures under infernapes feet, with any luck it wouldn't get back up again.

How many super effective blows could he tank before he tanked.

Swinging back around the flocks charged each other once again. This time his Gyarados firing a unrestrained HYPER BEAM at the Steelix back at the font of the opposing formation. "Buy me some time." he spoke to Razz. "Rotate left."

Putting Hiei, the Salamence back in front he used his time to augment the team speed before being rotated out again. Their four flyers took a new formation with one of Razz' pokemon in front. Gyarados needed to recharge and Salamence spent his turn on a boost.

It was on Razz to attack for now but they seemed to be hitting their stride. "You think we got this?"

Razz' paranoia was cute and overblown but Sénon had no doubts it kept the young man alive and on the mental mend.

He'd seen Razz less jarred around fire-types than he was around even the alluding to himself being a Rocket once upon a time.

So, he left it alone. cie la vie as they said in Lumiose City.

"Our flyers have to take down theirs." The pokémon couldn't exactly hear them from down here so they had Tsukuyomi on standby to transmit Game and Kingsman's orders via good old fashioned psychic-type telepathy.

As the two 'flocks' went head to head in the first wave Salamence heated up Steelix with a jet-stream of fire.
