Moana found himself taking up an awful lot of odd jobs for the League recently.

Oh well. He had nothing against them. He just hadn't imagined himself becoming a Ranger, or a government servant, or anything of that sort. Anyways, he lived in Hoenn, and if making it better was something that would help people, he supposed he wasn't opposed.

Heh. That rhymed.

Anyways, these annoying wheel bugs were sprinting... well, no, rolling around at ridiculous speeds. What the hell? How did they not get vertigo with all the spinning they were doing? Rolling could not be an effective form of transportation for a living thing. Especially not at that speed.

Whatever the case was, he needed to get rid of these bugs. His Druddigon, Cova, accompanied him, newly caught from the Water Routes. At a yelled "Go!" from Moana, the dragon lunged forward and caught a Whirlipede between its powerful jaws with a Sheer Force-boosted Crunch. The bug squealed in the dragon's jaws, until it shook its head. The squealing stopped, and the frankly terrifying Druddigon roared its challenge at the other Whirlipedes.

Moana smiled. "Good shit." He was really liking having Cova on his side.

Sénon Game 

Yup, they could not catch a break. The stranger turned to face down a Hoppip, leaving Moana to deal with the holy shit. 

A huge blue and red dragon stared him down, huffing through its nostrils and glaring at him. Well, it wasn't huge. He was taller than it. But it was still pretty big, and it looked aggressive.

Wali was on a roll, though, and darted around more quickly than his seemingly unwieldy shape would suggest. Moana didn't see him attack, but the Druddigon flinched and roared in anger, so he figured that Wali must have used Psychic. 

Keiser, too, was enthusiastic to battle, perhaps having been warmed up by the fight with the aggressive Sharpedo earlier. He dashed forward through the water and landed a powerful Metal Claw on the dragon, who took some inspiration from the Prinplup and Metal Clawed him right back. 

However, the attack from the stronger, more powerful dragon still didn't have much of an effect on Keiser. Moana noted this as Keiser sprang forward and knocked the Druddigon out with a Drill Peck. The water-type was incredibly sturdy. That'd be useful in a lot of situations, he realized as he threw a Pokeball at the formidable Dragon.

Billi Marsh 

Moana nodded. "Alolan food is really, really good. I'm probably biased, but malasadas are the best thing you'll ever eat." At Billi's next comment, Moana understood more. He had already suspected it from the accent, sure, but this bit about the gym challenge being more of a sport basically confirmed that Billi was from Galar. "Trials are... Well, they're similar to gyms, in that they have challenges. They'll give you a task to complete, like, maybe gathering ingredients for a dish from the forest," he said, using the first example he could think of. "They also had a Totem Pokemon at the end, which is basically like a huge, superpowered version of the normal thing. Like, Gumshoos are normally about two feet tall, but I heard that the Totem Gumshoos for one trial was nearly five feet tall."

When Billi defended his Pokemon, Moana nodded again. "Yeah, I don't blame them. I know Pokemon have their own instincts and whatnot. It's just surprising to see them be so... prominent." He shuddered. "And, yeah, birds can be scary. Especially the bigger ones like Corviknight."

The conversation would be interrupted by the sight of a Stunky glaring at the two of them from behind the bushes, doing a handstand. "Ah, maybe we should get out of the Stunky's territory," Moana suggested, backing away from it.

Oh, dear Arceus, it wasn't going to stop. Moana watched in horror as the monster ate up the hazards that he and a few others had thought to put in its path, stones and spikes and webs alike. And, oh god, it was getting closer. This huge thing was a lot faster than it looked like it was moving a few moments ago. Moana turned and ran, but he was sure it wasn't enough, that the Guzzlord was right behind him. His team followed, Pertapa skittering along at a surprising speed, Wali flapping ahead of him, and Keila in Moana's arms. Moana recalled Tynnu and Pertapa; there was no way the Alolan Geodude would be able to outrun that monster on his two short arms, and though Pertapa was moving quickly, he didn't want to risk her getting trampled.

The Guzzlord was close. Really, really too close for comfort. It swung its heavy tail, and Wali, who had gotten ahead, acted quickly. The Sigilyph grabbed Moana with his psychic powers and tried to pull him roughly out of the way of the attacking behemoth. In case that wasn't enough, Keila in Moana's arms would erect another Protect, the barrier hopefully deflecting the Guzzlord's possible attacks or any debris.

If he got the opportunity, Moana would release Pertapa from her ball again, the Dwebble glaring at the comparatively huge Guzzlord. The bug-type skittered forward, seemingly fearless in the face of such a massive opponent, crossing her pincers with an X-Scissor and aiming to take off one of the Guzzlord's tongue-arms. Moana watched carefully, hand on the Pokeball's recall button in case things seemed to go south.

Sénon Game  

Moana blinked in surprise at the man's curt response to the approaching threat. Then he barked a laugh. That wasn't what he was expecting, but he'd work with it. It was kind of refreshing, actually.

The Prinplup that he'd just captured had noticed the approaching threat, and apprehension entered his eyes, so Moana spoke quickly. "All right, buddy. I'm gonna call you Keiser for now," he decided on the spot. "Look, Keiser, there's a Sharpedo coming at us, as you can see. Can you help us out with it?" He gestured behind him, where the Sigilyph continued to flap, showing no emotion. "Between you, me, and Wali, we can take it, I think."

The Prinplup seemed skeptical, but he did shoot a stream of bubbles at the Sharpedo. The speedy Pokemon didn't even flinch, the attack doing minimal damage as it shot right through the bubbles.

"That's not gonna work," Moana muttered. "See if you can hit him up close with your beak or flippers! Aim for the eyes!"

The Prinplup seemed to understand, waiting for the Sharpedo to approach and slashing at its face with a Metal Claw and wincing when its rough skin damaged him. The Sharpedo roared and rammed Keiser hard, the water around it boosting the attack. Thankfully, Keiser seemed not to be hurt too bad by the Liquidation, just disoriented.

Wali joined the fray here, making a strange, echoing noise and launching an Air Slash at the attacker. This attack was more damaging, the blade of wind cutting into the Sharpedo's skin. Turning its back on Keiser, the hunter growled at Wali, trying to lunge out of the water and hit him with Liquidation.

Wali did not play by the Sharpedo's rules, instead flying higher so the fish couldn't reach, and splashed back down into the water. "Now!" urged Moana, and Keiser, who was waiting for the landing, nailed the fish with a Drill Peck, knocking it out.

"Wow, Keiser," Moana said, "That was impressive! You too, Wali. Good job, both of you." He threw his Pokeball at the defeated Sharpedo. It seemed powerful, but if it proved to be too much trouble, he could always release it back or give it away to someone else.

Moana blinked as the ball snapped shut. Frankly, he was a little surprised that his capture had worked at all. He supposed it must have been the element of surprise that did it. Oh well. He certainly wouldn't be complaining. 

He smiled a little when Billi mentioned that Alola was a sweet vacationing spot. That tended to be most people's reactions, and while it kind of got a little annoying sometimes to have his home be associated with tourism first and foremost, Billi was so upbeat that it was impossible to be annoyed at him. 

"It's not really so different from Hoenn," Moana said. "The climate and stuff are similar to here. Which is why I came here in the first place, actually." Realizing that the topic was about to turn to his own past, he quickly changed it. "They don't have a gym challenge, though. They do Trials instead." 

Billi mentioned his camera, and Moana asked, "So you're a journalist? That sounds pretty cool." He then snickered as his Pokemon inadvertently knocked out a poor Servine nearby. "Wow, your Pokemon are really not good to the wildlife here." 

Speaking of which, Moana had noticed a Morelull eyeing the group of them. However, as it wasn't doing anything, he just kind of ignored it. He was used to Morelull, which were common in Alola. If you left them alone, they'd leave you alone, too. Though, the possibility of Billi's Pokemon leaving anything alone seemed pretty unlikely.

Sénon Game

This mystery guy seemed to have a moment of introspection, after which he spoke up. Moana listened to the first part, and then smiled a little at the praise. "Yeah, I've been starting to catch some Pokemon of my own." He shrugged, trying to seem nonchalant. He didn't mention that his first four Pokemon had all been stolen. "What with all this news of aliens and stuff, I figured it would be best to be prepared." He eyed the stranger. "I might guess that you have the same reason, huh?"

He knew he should probably be at least a little suspicious of this guy. It was a random stranger who he'd met in the middle of a water route. Yet, he couldn't make himself feel that way. He'd hung out with a gang for a large part of his life. He felt like he had a grasp of people with bad intentions, and this guy didn't seem to give off that feeling.

Moana smiled again when a Corsola appeared and approached them, with a friendly demeanor. He'd seen that the nearby settlement, Pacifidlog, was actually built over a colony of Corsola, which would explain the Pokemon's presence here.

"I--- he began, but stopped in his tracks when he saw a ripple in the distance, that quickly approached, resolving into the shape of a dorsal fin as it appeared more clearly.

"Um," he said, "I think we're about to be attacked by a Sharpedo." He pushed the button on the Pokeball of his latest capture, the Prinplup materializing back into the water and looking about curiously.
