Moana was enjoying his time in the public garden with Hoja. The Nuzleaf--- no, a Shiftry now, he reminded himself--- really loved this place, and he'd grown really protective of the plants that grew here.

Though, well, that protectiveness wasn't good for the Vigoroth that was so carelessly trashing the area right now. What on earth? The stupid monkey seemed to not have any better place to do its ridiculous stunts than in the garden.

Oh well. Hoja was right here, preparing to knock the Vigoroth right out of the sky. As the monkey flung itself into the air once again, Hoja swung his leaf fans, whipping up a tornado of leaves that struck the leaping monkey. The Vigoroth screeched, but Hoja didn't let up, swinging again and again and launching more leaf tornadoes until the poor Vigoroth was knocked out.

Moana patted Hoja's head as he threw a Pokeball at the fallen Vigoroth. He really liked these berries, huh?

Moana walked along Route 111, the wind blowing against his face. He was here in Mauville because of the evacuation, but he did get bored when he was cooped up in the city all the time, so here he was. Training Pokemon was important, too, especially with the danger that was bound to be approaching soon with the alien invasion.

Pertapa joined him on the path, skittering along on the road, and Tynnu as well. The Rock types would likely help him take on the fire types that were common on this route, though he'd have to be careful with Pertapa, who was a bug type as well.

Billi Marsh

Moana shook his head when Billi asked about the trials. "Well, no, someone usually does run the trials. They're called Trial Captains, and they run them... well, sort of. They're more like supervisors, making sure that the trial goers don't get into too much trouble, or whatever." He shrugged. "I didn't get the opportunity to do any trials myself, but that's okay. I look forward to the gym challenge here in Hoenn."

The conversation was disrupted by the arrival of a Trubbish and a Tsareena. Moana smirked. "You can take the Tsareena, and I'll get the Trubbish," Moana suggested. Billi's army of bugs would probably tear the Tsareena apart before he could even blink.

As for the Trubbish... Moana pushed a Pokeball's button and released Wali. The Sigilyph floated above the floor, and soon enough, it spotted the Trubbish. Wali didn't instigate aggression unless it was unavoidable, so he just floated closer, curious. The Trubbish wasn't having any of that, though, and launched a flurry of poisonous debris right at Wali.

The Gunk Shot struck poor Wali head-on, pushing him back and nearly knocking him out of the air. Moana whistled, impressed. Wali was hard to get the drop on, with his quick reactions and psychic powers, but the flurry of poisonous gunk had been too fast even for him.

Nonetheless, Wali would not be denied. With a warbling cry, Wali picked up the Trubbish with Psychic and flung it at a nearby tree. The Trubbish prepared to attack once again, but Wali followed up with an Air Slash and finished it off. Still impressed by the poison-type's surprising speed, Moana lobbed a Pokeball at the defeated Trubbish.

When Billi suggested that he could pet his Corviknight, Moana smiled. He wasn't sure how it'd feel to pet the steel armor of a Corviknight, but hey, he was curious. He laid a hand on the large bird's head, surprised when he felt feathers rather than hard metal.

He nodded at Billi's explanation. "Yeah... predatory Pokemon aren't any more aggressive than any other Pokemon. It's definitely exaggerated." He had a thought. "I do have a predatory Pokemon of my own, actually. Want to meet him?" Maybe Billi and his team would get a kick out of meeting Cova.

Note: Capture attempt on Trubbish

When Moana had heard that there was a nearby film shooting requesting the presence of any fierce dragon-type Pokemon, he had laughed his ass off. 

Then he immediately marched to the place they'd named with Cova's Pokeball in hand. They wanted fierce? Cova would show them fierce. 

Looking that the situation now, Moana mused, the directors really should've been a little more specific with the people and pokemon who they allowed onto the set. He looked to the side and watched as mateo martinez 's Haxorus ripped up the general area with a Hyper Beam, and Kazimir Wynter 's dragon roared at the poor cameraman himself. 

Of course, Cova was no less destructive, the Druddigon howling its challenge at the set and ramming walls with Outrage. It wouldn't be long before this wall broke down.

Moana held back a smirk. This, at least, would teach them a lesson to request trained dragons next time.

Moana faced down a group of Carnivine. The large, carnivorous grass-types were impressive and imposing-- he'd have to see if he could go about catching one later. 

But for now, they were a threat. Moana watched as the group of Carnivine approached a cornered man. To his credit, the man was defiant, with his Carbink floating in front of him. The Carbink attacked the approaching Carnivine with a Power Gem, but it was outnumbered, and the grass-types advanced and knocked out the rock-type with well-placed Power Whips.

Moana decided that he had hid in the bushes for long enough. He pushed the buttons on two of his Pokeballs, and Cova and Polu appeared right next to him, the Druddigon roaring its challenge angrily at the group of Carnivine while the shiny Nidoking snorted. The Carnivine turned around, facing this new threat, but they were blindsided by the charging dragon who barreled into them with an Outrage, sending one flying and crashing into a wall. Not pausing in his rampage, Cova turned to the next Carnivine, roaring and running at it as well. Polu lunged forward, the Nidoking's arm coated in a purple glow as he slammed it into another Carnivine. 

Moana smiled. It was good to be a trainer.

Boom.

The explosion shook the entire route. Moana, far away from the source, wasn't immediately hurt by the blast, but the ground trembled and the noise assaulted his ears.

After he stumbled, he recovered quickly. God, he was lucky that he wasn't one of the ones who was close enough to the blast to get hurt. He flinched as a Naganadel raced towards him, only to get repelled by Wali's Psychic. Good.

But there were certain to be others there. Others who weren't as fortunate as him, and who could use his help.

Moana began to race along the grassy path. He was no professional sprinter, but he was hardly out of shape, either. He started to run, and his Pokemon followed: Keila in his arms, Wali ahead of him, and Pertapa and Tynnu following alongside him. The ground quaked as he ran, but he didn't stop, not even as a gargantuan wiry monster unearthed itself from the power plant ahead. He might not be the best equipped to fight that thing, but he sure as hell would do what he could.

Alongside him, Moana's Pokemon supported the fight and made his run easier by taking down aliens on the way. Pertapa and Tynnu followed along, the Dwebble and Alolan Geodude blasting any who got too close in the face with Rock Blast, still remembering Moana's instructions from before. From Moana's arms, Keila the Pineco scattered Spikes at the feet of aliens who tried to attack. And, of course, Wali the Sigilyph flapped ahead, shoving obstacles out of Moana's path with Psychic, the protective Light Screen he had set up previously still shimmering.

The Guzzlord was dead.

The alien monster's Hyper Beam never reached its target, as Moana's and everyone else's attacks preempted it. Moana let out a long exhale when the creature died. 

But it was far from over. This Guzzlord was far from the only enemy that they had. Moana released Keila, and the Pineco was splashed with a fellow fighter's Life Dew. The damage to the Pineco healed, and Moana felt the wounds on his own torso closing up. That was good. They might not have been that terrible, in Moana's own opinion-- he was no stranger to injury-- but he was glad for the relief from the pain and the lack of danger of bleeding out, or infection.

There was a moment of reprieve, for which Moana was grateful. Arceus knew it wasn't over yet. He couldn't be sure, but Moana thought he'd heard another of the huge monstrosities on the battlefield, plus who knew what else these aliens had up their sleeves.

Sure enough, there was another Guzzlord, and it seemed to have summoned a goddamn meteor shower to kill all of them, along with a swarm of more bee-dragons and some... flying bricks that shot lasers? What the hell. Moana could only hope that the Light Screen Wali had set up previously would help mitigate the damage, but it was still better to be safe than sorry. 

"Keila, Protect again," Moana said, and the Pineco brought up a barrier once again. Moana was irrationally happy. That Protect had been a blessing throughout this fight, and without Keila, Moana would be dead many times over.

Shielded behind this barrier and Wali's Light Screen, the rest of his team would go on the offensive. Wali shrieked, using a Psychic attack on the incoming swarm of Naganadel to try and throw them bodily at each other, hopefully disrupting their flight. Tynnu raised more Stealth Rocks as an added deterrent, and Pertapa raised her claws and made a rock, larger than the ones used for Rock Blast, and lobbed them at the swarm, aiming to Smack Down the attackers.

Moana wasn't fast enough.

The Guzzlord caught up. Wali's psychic nearly pulled them out of the way, but they were just a hair's breadth too slow, and the Guzzlord swung.

Keila erected the barrier that she had so practiced, and it helped. It certainly helped, but the Guzzlord would not be denied, pushing past the Protect and striking the Pineco. Keila made a soft noise of pain, and Moana cried out as her scale-like bark dug into his skin. He felt the blood running down the front of his shirt.

He stumbled back, and immediately checked on Keila. The damage to him was painful, but Keila had still been the one who took the brunt of the Guzzlord's brutal attack. The Pineco seemed worse for wear, but still determined.

Moana wasn't going to take risks. He did not want Keila to die during this battle, if he could avoid it at all. "I'll call you out if I need your help," he assured the Pineco before recalling her.

He looked up, and saw that the combined effort of the other people who were fighting the aliens had pushed the Guzzlord to a final stand, preparing to swing a devastating Hyper Beam at everyone. That wouldn't be good.

"All right, Wali, get that screen back up," he said. The Sigilyph set up the Light Screen once more. Hopefully the strange thing that canceled out screens wouldn't come back yet. "Tynnu, Pertapa, attack from a distance." He didn't want to risk those two getting any closer to the Guzzlord than was necessary, especially not after he'd seen what happened to Keila despite her Protect.

The Dwebble clicked, sending a flurry of sand at the Guzzlord with a flick of her pincers. Hopefully the disruption would hinder the alien's Hyper Beam, or make it miss. Tynnu took a more offensive approach, firing Rock Blast directly at the Guzzlord's side. The Geodude tried not to hit the alien's mouth. That thing would eat anything, as he's already witnessed.

Moana chuckled as he considered the latest job he'd taken for the League, which was becoming a pattern. It wasn't his fault that the League was a very solid source of the kinds of odd jobs that he performed to get money and, well, not starve. It seemed there was always something to do, and they always had just short of the amount of people to do it. Moana would be a fool not to fill a need that the market so clearly required.

And if it made him feel better about himself to help people during a time of such stress, then nobody would be the wiser.

This request was a little silly, though. Really? A "haunted house?" That was just ridiculous. It was probably a tale someone told just to scare people away from the property for some reason, or, perhaps, to intentionally cause the value of the living space to depreciate. People were really willing to use Pokemon as an excuse for everything. If there was seriously a single ghost in here, he would eat his hat.

Moana looked at the door, imposing and colored with a foreboding black and creaking when his fingers barely brushed it. His newly adopted Kabutops, Sheru, glared apprehensively at the door, and he swallowed despite himself.

Maybe he was a little glad he didn't have a hat to eat.
