It was time to add to his arsenal. Barnaby had accrued a few ice types since his relocation to Hoenn, but he could always use more. He was a self-proclaimed ice specialist, after all.

It was difficult to actually find ice types in the wild in this country, though. He knew of only one location that housed them - Shoal Cave. He'd already had one frozen adventure here before, so at least the terrain was somewhat familiar.

The cavern loomed dark and foreboding ahead of him. Barnaby entered, eager for his prize.

As he vividly remembered, the chill of Shoal Cave was all-enveloping and oppressive. Even bundled up in his turtleneck, coat, and beanie, Barnaby was still shivering against the cold. It was inevitable, but still uncomfortable.

Uncomfortable, like the creepy expression on the wild VANILLISH's face which blocked his way forward. It loomed ahead, staring. It didn't approach, but it didn't flee, either.

Instead of dealing with it, Barnaby opted to veer off onto a diverging path.

Soon enough the VANILLISH faded from view, but Barnaby couldn't help but look over his shoulder every few minutes to make sure it wasn't following. Those cold, souless eyes.. Terrifying.

Luckily the living ice cream cone seemed to have stayed behind, leaving Barnaby to continue his search uninterrupted. He turned a corner and found that the cavern opened up quite a bit, with sunlight streaming through an eroded hole in the stone ceiling.

Here a natural spring had formed and, looking into the stark blue water, he saw that a BARBOACH was swimming leisurely around. Barnaby paid it no mind.

Just as Barnaby was about to depart and venture deeper into the cavern, an abrupt squelch of water nearby caught his attention. The cause? A pristinely white DEWGONG had just breached the surface of the spring.

It regarded him with intelligent, dark eyes for a moment or two. Barnaby didn't try to move, in fear of startling the creature; after all, this was just the type of Pokémon that he'd been looking for. An elegant ice type ripe for the taking.

Well, perhaps befriending was the better word to use, as the sea lion began to slowly swim close. Its appearance was docile, non-threatening.

It seemed curious more than anything else. It likely hadn't been exposed to humans before, given the remote location. Barnaby plucked a few treats from his coat pocket and extended them to the DEWGONG, sincerely hoping that the thing wouldn't try to drag him under the water.

With a pleased snuffle, the Pokémon eagerly took his offering. Without skipping a beat Barnaby extended a Poké Ball this time. "Come with me, mon blanc."
