The Cherubi was hanging from a tree with a handful of other fuchsia berries. Their camouflage was so good, CJ almost walked right past them, until Kinnick hit the tree trunk with a double kick and sent the little Cherry Pokemon scattering to the ground with panicked and undignified squeaks.

Kinnick pounced on one, and CJ collected it in a safari ball, while frowning slightly at their Jolteon.

“We need to teach you some restraint, bud,” they said.

Kinnick growled.

The little Togepi was standing perfectly in a sunbeam, lovely white shell reflecting the light outward, gazing at some motes of dust floating innocently in the air. Kinnick crouched, preparing to leap on top of it, when CJ nudged her with their foot, throwing her off balance. The Togepi turned with a confused noise just as CJ gently dropped a safari ball on the top of its crowned head, capturing it inside.

“Got it handled, bud,” CJ said with a grin as they collected their prize, “thanks.”

Kinnick growled again.

Kinnick had started to sulk. A whole day of CJ cramping her style and not being appreciative of her methods was beginning to weigh on her. In fact, she was so grumpy, she didn’t even notice the Nidoran creeping up behind them until it chomped her with its sharp rodent teeth.

Kinnick leaped into the air with a pained yowl, sending a discharge of electricity scattering along her sharp fur. The Nidoran got a mouthful of zappage and let go, but not before an irate Kinnick could slam it with two sharp kicks, knocking it completely out. It dug a furrow with the drag of it’s unconscious body.

“O-oops,” CJ said in the quiet after the chaos had passed, “I think I see the warden coming. Let’s go.” They nabbed the Nidoran, and, with Kinnick, made a beeline for the exit.
