One moment, she was dozing fitfully against the side of the Corviknight Taxi.

A bright sun warmed her face and her black top. The slight breeze pulled at her hair like the hands of a needy goblin. The work she’d put into a smooth coifure now seemed completely wasted. A politician’s autobiography lap open in her lap, the remnants of repeated dog-earring visible. A Riolu was settled. All in all, this trip was relatively peaceful.

Until, suddenly, it wasn’t. First, came a sound almost like a gong. It reverberated through the basket and the cables holding it to its carrier. Blue eyes blinked awake, the book and pup tumbling to the bottom of the basket with a thump. A heavy rock dropped between her feet and those of her next passenger. The Corviknight above screeched. Then, they were falling. “!?” The pilot shouted an order at his steel raven as the blonde clung desperately to the rim of the basket.

A hand reached for a non-existent parachute. The ground approached. Lydia said a prayer to Lord Arceus and closed her eyes. Suddenly, the basket was jerked upward. In pain and crippled, the Corviknight had regained his perch. “Nngh.” Her body stiffened as it swung. Only quick reflexes stopped Heimdall from flying into the ether.

Slowed greatly, the basket hit the ground with a cloud of dirt. A little pink face poked out behind a tree, an impish smile on its face. Above the Corviknight circled, a flag of distress held in its claws as it cawed. “Ah, gods damnit! It’s that Tinkaton, again! I can’t go anywhere with that thing in the way.” Within seconds, another boulder smashed into the dirt beside them. Lydia ducked behind the basket, reaching for her gun.

“I will take care of it—” Somehow. “--get ready to fly.” Jerking her head to the left, Lydia and Heimdall moved to surprise the fairy-steel menace.

tinkaton are a recent threat to hoenn's corviknight taxi business. this isn't the first time annalise has heard of them causing problems, but it is the first she's experienced in real-time. as the tinkaton readies another boulder, she reaches for a pokeball clipped to her belt. [break][break]
"psychic!"

her meowstic is summoned into the chaos as the command leaves her lips. the boulder is hurtled toward the corviknight flapping overhead. pink energy surrounds it, stopping it mid-air. for a heartbeat, it hovers there until annalise points at the tinkaton peering from behind a tree.

with effort, it's returned to sender, splintering bark before it lands where the tinkaton had once been. the pink pokemon reappears behind a neighboring tree, grinning deviously.

The gun felt familiar in her palms. The trigger was something she’d balanced life on time and time again. And, yet, in this scenario, pulling it was out of the question. Pokemon in her mind was akin to kami. They were spirits of nature as intrinsic to the planet as the morning breeze or tidal shift. To shoot one of them—a creature doing nothing but obeying its basest instincts—seemed wrong.

With a sigh, Lydia slid the firearm back into its holster. In doing so, pain flared across her shoulders, likely the result of her sudden reacquaintance with the ground. “Little punk.” The normally stoic woman sneered. Before she made it from basket to tree, a female voice caught her ears. Moving into a crouch, Lydia peeked above the edges of the basket. Though prideful, the blonde did not fancy herself a fool. Especially not when facing down a few hundred-pound boulders. “Assistance would be appreciated.”

Fortunately, the imp’s prey seemed to be the bird above, not the people still cowering in the basket. That allowed her to go on the offensive.

A cat-like Pokemon sent the stone back to the sender. “Thank you. Both of you.” For a moment, the Tinkaton’s view was obscured. “Go! Go! Go!” Lydia murmured to Heimdall, gesturing to the trees on the westward side of the fallen balloon. Trusting her little guardian would hold up his part of the arrangement, the veteran made her way into the trees themselves. With the trunks in the way, the fairy-type would find it difficult to use that attack again.

Relying on the helper to keep the creature distracted, the blonde crept up on its other side. “Ready?” The tiny pup nodded, his paws curling into fists. “Hit it with a Vacuum Wave.” With a quick whirl of its paw, the fighting type sent a whirlwind twisting toward the Tinkaton. This pulled it out of the cover of the tree and into an easier place of attack.

“TON!” Well, now, it looked angry. Its hammer began to glow as it looked for its unseen attacker.
