Nomi stood in front of the abandoned power station, staring up at the structure with an intensely curious expression. It was a relatively small building, completely dark inside, a flickering neon sign the only indication that it had once been in use. It was the first thing they had come across after passing through the rift into the Ultra Plant, besides the giant looming Xurkitree casting massive shadows across the already darkened ground. Every so often, violent spears of lightening flashed across the stormy sky, illuminating the desolate wasteland that expanded outwards for miles around them. The air smelled like the constant threat of rain.[break][break]
"Well? I think we should go inside," Nomi murmured to her companions, Violet Fairbanks and Kaname Fujihara. "There might be a way to bring the power station back online. Learn something about who used to operate it...and what it was originally for."[break][break]
In the Ultra Deep Sea, she had come across the bones of drowned Megalopolians. In The Border, the land had been inhabited by the vengeful, restless dead. What would they find here, in the Ultra Plant? Nomi was both eager and wary to find out. Beside her, Ginger the Alolan Raichu watched for danger. Her cheeks crackled with electric energy as she attuned to the charged nature of the landscape.

The optimism of science truly was boundless, was it not? To just believe that it was even possible to bring a station you knew nothing about like this back on without even knowing who made it in the first place? Truly, Violet was much too pessimistic to believe that to be possible, at least not for a small team with at least one amateur in it. But that probably was why she was still merely an assistant, while Nomi had become one of the head scientists by now. Well, that and proper education coupled with a slight obsession, all of which she lacked.

Though admittedly, Violet did at least think she had quite a bit of drive regardless. It just was that she did not really know how to approach rising through the ranks. Before joining Rocket on a bit of a whim, she had only been a ranger in training, then a runaway scamming people out of their money for a living. This was her first time actually belonging to an organization proper. Which likely explained just why she struggled progressing upwards. Maybe one day she could make even admin, if she found a proper hook.

Until then, she had decided to latch onto important people she liked. Hence she was here, helping the scientist despite not exactly being a pro at this kind of job herself. “I agree. I am right behind you,” she thus noted with a smile, one hand absent-mindedly checking the bag of gear she was carrying over the shoulder. Her disposition was politely cheery, as always. And she did not mind playing second fiddle and observing matters for now as she would follow the other without much question.

Kaname stared out towards the dark horizon, the specter of that massive Xurkitree they had seen lurking out there both intrigued and unnerved him. He turned his attention on the abandoned building that loomed over them, a dilapidated power station with a dimly flashing neon sign that seemed to beckon them inside. He glanced up at the dark sky, watching a streak of lightning pierce through the sky. “Feels like it’s about to rain…,” he murmured to himself, turning his attention to Naomi Sato .[break][break]

“Agreed, let’s head inside.” He said curtly, motioning to Ikkyu, his Medicham, to take point near the door. “Is bringing this station back online a good idea though? What if the surge of electricity attracts something we don’t want to deal with?” His voice wavered as he looked toward his superior, hoping for a reassuring reply from Nomi.[break][break]

His experiences in the Ultra Deep Sea during the Seal Stone operation had left him unnerved. The very environment there seemed to reject him, would the Ultra Power Plant do the same? What sort of strange phenomena waited for them here, would there be more of these “paradox” pokemon he’d been hearing about? There were too many variables for Kaname to not be worried sick about it all.[break][break]

Nomi nodded appreciatively to Violet as the other woman voiced her support. To Kaname, Nomi replied, "That's always a risk, but it's one I'm willing to take...the data collection opportunity here is too good to pass up, I think."[break][break]
Perhaps he would not agree, but she intended to proceed one way or another.[break][break]
The Head Scientist pushed open the door leading into the power station; despite the confidence she'd displayed to Kaname, she entered cautiously - his general point about safety had merit, even if it would not stop her from investigating. Ginger followed after Nomi, sniffing the air expectantly. The inside of the building was dark; Nomi could barely make out the structures within - desks? Shelving? Computer towers? The lack of light was a detriment.[break][break]
"We need power," Nomi murmured. She looked down at the Alolan Raichu next to her. "Can you give this place a boost?"[break][break]
Ginger nodded, then pressed her front paws to the ground. With a crackling surge of electricity, she transformed the ground into an ELECTRIC TERRAIN. Electricity traveled up the walls, causing the ceiling lights to spark, then fill with light. The room illuminated, and Nomi was able to see what was inside: a chaotic mess of ripped cords, broken powerbanks, and defunct machinery, in addition to toppled shelves, frayed wires, showers of glass from the broken windows, and overturned desks.[break][break]
Something had been here first - either recently or long ago. And it had destroyed everything.

Violet nodded to Nomi’s response to Kaname’s question. It was why they were here, after all. Might be risky, but not even trying would mean having wasted their time. Which was almost always the worst possible outcome. As long as they moved towards the objective in any way, they could reach it. But if they stopped, it was simply out of the question. Plus, if nothing else, she was certain that they could escape if necessary.

Hence, she followed along without hesitation. The darkness was not too bad, though just as her eyes were about to adjust to it, lights came to life rendering her efforts pointless, briefly even blinding her. Fortunately, she had been privy to the plans of causing this, so that all did not deter her much at all. She had to blink a few times, but soon enough she could see the destruction apparent in this place. “Well, that doesn’t look too good,” she started, crouching down to try and pick up some disheveled papers. “But not too bad, either. Anyone who has to resort to vandalism to find or get rid of something is probably going to overlook something. And they did not have reason or means to destroy the place, so that is something as well. Lower chances, but not nil. After all, the lights work with just electric terrain, after all.”

Maybe she was putting too positive a spin on all this, but to her, this did not feel like a bust at all. But maybe she was just someone who was difficult to dissuade once she did set her mind to doing something.
