It was Nigma's doing, she realized - the Unown-? that had taken a liking to the Slateport University student during their expedition into Lesser Megalopolis, an event that now seemed like a century ago given all that had happened since.[break][break]
Nomi hesitated, weighing whether or not she ought to simply pretend she wasn't at home...but because she trusted the Unown, she eventually cracked open her front door. Familiar crimson eyes peered out at Yuina, a mix of curious and guarded.[break][break]
"Hello," she greeted warily, though a small smile touched her lips as she noticed Nigma floating dutifully beside the brown-haired young woman. "I suppose you have some questions for me, don't you."[break][break]
She waved for Yuina to enter the quaint Sootopolis townhome, perhaps an unexpectedly domestic venue to be meeting with a known criminal.[break][break]

BARNABY FINCH might not be a scientist, but he had a quick and clever mind. That was invaluable - especially within Rocket - and had endeared him to Nomi despite his lack of academic expertise.[break][break]
"Yes," she answered eagerly. "I do think it is worth pursuing."[break][break]
The issue would be the power source, of course. They could recruit Zev Harcourt to do their bidding, but mass destruction like the laser unleashed during the battle with Kyurem would likely draw unwanted attention their way. And the goal wasn't to destroy the Rocket sub, or part of Sootopolis, after all. Admin Bee had used the words "controlled environment", and he was right: they needed the experiment to have the same effect, but on a smaller scale.[break][break]
"Tera crystals are easy enough to procure these days," she mused. "And I am confident Lulu Flint can provide dream mist for experimental purposes." Her mentor had been building a dream machine for some time, she knew. "But where do we get the power? Not so much as to cause another calamity, but enough to recreate the effect..."[break][break]
She glanced at Kallistatus, who hovered by Admin Bee's shoulder.[break][break]
"Perhaps the Unown can assist us."

Nomi had never, in fact, been within ten feet of "Sloppy Sam's". Not because she was too good for the grease-ridden establishment, but because she hadn't even known about its existence until the Jones sisters had pointed it out to her. Too many nights spent cooped up in her dorm room, studying frantically for exams. Too few friends to invite her out to eat in the first place.[break][break]
Isaac would love this, she realized, surveying the rag-tag crowd huddled around Sam's smudged take-out window. It had "for the people" vibes, the sort of place that could just as easily devolve into drunken late-night revelry as it could rally the heart of a revolution.[break][break]
But Isaac Merlo was off being the League's newest Avatar, and she wasn't supposed to talk to him anymore.[break][break]
"Trashcan fries sound good." The menu was overwhelming. A thousand different ways to melt cheese on meat. "And maybe one of those burger dogs?"[break][break]
Her brain circled back to an earlier question, now that her food order had been decided.[break][break]
"My grandfather's land, yeah. He came from a long line of shrine-keepers. He died when I was a baby, though. I never really knew him."[break][break]

It wasn't the DRK Triad after all. It was just a regular woman, though she had a somewhat...regal air about her. Sleek purple hair, attire that was more sophisticated than it was practical, and the sort of mannerisms that hinted at an expertise in etiquette.[break][break]
Nomi couldn't decide if she was relived or disappointed. Either way, she was curious.[break][break]
"You aren't in my way," Nomi assured the woman, approaching from behind the Unown-F. The symbol Pokemon continued drifting ahead, orbiting the woman like a miniature moon. Nomi smiled, amused.[break][break]
"It likes you," she noted.[break][break]
Nomi surveyed the area, noticing the especially large cluster of Tera crystals the woman had clearly been studying.[break][break]
"Are you here to research the cave system too?" She asked.

Wherever her teleportation took them, it wasn't the Unown Dimension. Eerily empty, lifelessly devoid of the familiar rhythm of dancing Unown, it was a hopeless place: an infinite expanse of endless darkness. Toxic chains wriggled forth from the void like bulbous worms, attempting to seize her. To Isaac Merlo she hissed, "This isn't right."[break][break]
Waking from the dream within a dream - after she had been forced to return them both to the prison - she stared across her cell at Greyson Connors's stoic form and felt, for the first time since they'd been captured, an entirely new emotion. It surged forth like a whirlwind, taking her breath away.[break][break]
Anger.[break][break]
She was so incredibly angry.[break][break][break][break]
A spark ignites a flame that burns a single blade of grass that starts a forest fire.[break][break]

Nomi watched Shred Zeppelin pummel the orichalcum boulder over and over and over. He'd been trying for so long, each desperate attempt more futile than the last. This time, however, there seemed to be a soft glow emanating from within it...a tiny crack in the metallic sheen, tendrils of light peaking out. Nomi blinked, wondering if she was hallucinating. No, there was definitely a spot on the boulder that was brighter than the rest.[break][break]
"He should hit it there," she pointed, voice a murmur. "Right there."[break][break]
And when he did, sunlight burst forth like the dawn.[break][break][break][break]
Down below, in the feeding pit, the energy of revolution surged. The Visionary's TOXIC CHAIN didn't feel quite so heavy and oppressive anymore, now that she could see again. It wasn't the same as looking through Kallistatus's eye, it was a different sort of sight - something she'd DESIRED. It was the knowledge she'd needed all this time: an inherent understanding of how to escape. How to win.[break][break]
They'd labelled her WEAK, but it was their weakness that would be exploited now.[break][break]
"His left knee is his weakness, an old injury that never healed right," she directed Greyson Connors, as a Megalopolian guard attempted to intercept their path. The Elite Four's sphere of siphoning made quick work of the alien, thanks to her guidance, and the two sprinted towards the platform.[break][break]
She had never been a fighter, but there was more than one way to be strong.[break][break]

Calloused fingers test out her new hair, twine their way to the back of her head. Nomi clears her throat, trying to rally around Parker's continued survival, grasping at gratitude with every breath.[break][break]
"Let?" She blinks, trying to remember the details. It's all one bright beam of blue.[break][break]
She glances at Kallistatus, who shimmers into view, hovering by Parker's shoulder. Its singular eye is unreadable, save for the tiniest hint of...something? Nomi focuses, reaching out with her mind, and finds that the shiny Unown-K is twinged with remorse.[break][break]
"I don't know how it happened," she admits. "I didn't try to change it."[break][break]
Strong emotions had triggered her powers in the past, but nothing quite like this. Nothing physical: a more permanent change. She reaches up to briefly cover Parker's hand with her own, as if to acknowledge the transformation as real.[break][break]
"It's shorter now, too."[break][break]
She pauses, a faint blush spreading across her cheeks. An echo of the past Butterfree that used to flutter around in her stomach at the mere sight of Parker.[break][break]"Do you...do you like it?"

Each day was more insufferable than the last, but Nomi lived for the moment her head touched down upon the mildew-ridden prison cot, gifted to her by Greyson Connors's chivalry. For as soon as she closed her eyes - the toils of hard work and constant humiliation putting her instantly to sleep - she was transported back into the vibrant cityscape of Ultra Megalopolis, where she actually felt alive.[break][break]
Her mind was clearer in the dream, and it allowed her time to do what she normally did best: think.[break][break]
On the first night - the night after she'd found Lulu Flint, who'd helped her better understand the nature of the dream - she sat outside a quiet little cafe and contemplated every detail of the prison, from the Tera crystals embedded in the ceiling to the masks hanging in the hallway outside of the Chamber of Desires. Slowly but surely, she began to piece together the puzzle of their predicament.[break][break]
On the second night, she looked for Lulu again, but could not find her. What she did find, however, was Kallistatus. She'd started to feel her beloved Unown, sense it within the dream...following that thread of connection eventually lead her to a Pokemon daycare on the outskirts of the city. It was there that Kallistatus floated, suspended within a strange clear fluid, behind a thick pane of glass. The entire thing was akin to a test tube, especially to her scientific mind. She tried everything she could to break it, but it would not budge, not even a single hairline fracture.[break][break]
She wept in frustration. Are they right about me? Am I really so weak?[break][break]
On the third night, she tried asking questions of the Megalopolian guards - free of their chains and seemingly happier within the dream. How did you arrive at the prison? She asked them. What is the Never-Rot? And who is that Pokemon trapped in the prison with us? Their answers were vague and wholly insufficient. She did learn that they had been captured for far longer than she and the other Hoenn citizens had, which did not bode well...[break][break]
This won't be our fate, she vowed, her defiance a flickering candle flame.[break][break]
On the fourth night, she tested her powers. She practiced teleporting from one end of the city to the other in an instant. She altered the cityscape in subtle ways, bending reality and willing it to change. Excited, she returned to Kallistatus, tried to see through its singular eye. Looking out from inside of the glass test tube where they were keeping the shiny Unown-K, she was startled to see her own haggard face staring back. Is that really me?[break][break]
Though she could feel the resonance of her power, its presence within the dream as real as she could hope for, nothing she did could free Kallistatus.[break][break]
Anti-Avatar material? She wondered, of the glass prison within the larger prison.[break][break]
On the fifth night, she wandered the streets of Ultra Megalopolis, until her feet carried her to the central tower in the middle of the great city. Here, a small Pokemon - encased in the same thick glass as Kallistatus - floated within the liquid, seemingly asleep. Nomi recognized the Pokemon from the RKS Machine.[break][break]
"Azelf?" she invoked, as if the name were a softly spoken magic spell. The incantation did nothing, for Azelf did not stir. "How did you get here?" she found herself asking the same question over and over until it grew meaningless in her futility.[break][break]
On the sixth night, Nomi almost gave up completely. She forced herself to continue traversing the city, searching every nook and cranny for anything that could help her escape the prison. The despair threatened to overcome her, until she finally cracked.[break][break]
"Holo!" She screamed up at the skyscrapers in desperation. "How CONVENIENT for a sizable chunk of Hoenn's Avatars to be indisposed! Was that your plan all along?"[break][break]
No answer came.[break][break]
And then, on the seventh night, to her utter astonishment, hope returned. Immediately upon entering the dream, Nomi spotted someone familiar, someone she would recognize just about anywhere.[break][break]
"Isaac?"[break][break]
There was no doubt about it, it was Isaac Merlo - standing right in front of her. Without thinking twice, she threw herself at him in a tight embrace.[break][break]
"Oh Isaac," she realized with genuine sorrow. "They got you too?"[break][break]
But...if there was anyone capable of breaking out of a prison, it was the Liberator. If there was anyone capable of breaking out all those captured within a prison, it was Isaac Merlo.[break][break]
Which gave Nomi an idea. An idea she couldn't believe she hadn't considered yet.[break][break]
"Isaac," she held on tight to him. "I'm going to try something. This is a dream, right? But so was Galar. And that was real - it changed us, even if all of the details are still hazy. Which means this could be an alternate dimension, just like that was. So - "[break][break]
She shut her eyes tight, and focused on the transfer.[break][break]
"Please," the Visionary whispered.[break][break]
And then she attempted to take them both into the Unown Dimension, and away from hell.[break][break][break][break]

The word had grown far heavier as of late.[break][break]
"Yes," she answered, that simple admission carrying with it the storied history of all creation: as if it were an incantation - or perhaps a softly spoken magic spell. "The Unown call me The Visionary."[break][break]
As they pulsed with white-hot cosmic power, ethereal and lovely, the Unown spelled out various words - innovator, seer, prophet, dreamer, kin - and as they did, shimmering blue crystal sprouted from the ground and morphed into a wide, flat slab: the Unown Dimension's version of a projector screen.[break][break]
Within the crystal, a scene began to play out: Nomi and Isaac Merlo, venturing into the RKS Machine. Things go well, until Nisa Holo of the DRK Triad traps them inside the simulated universe, hoping to kill them. When all seems lost, Nomi is able to summon the full set of Rocket Unown, and together, they help her and Isaac escape to their dimension - the one Jayden and Nomi are standing within at that very moment.[break][break]
As the scenes from Nomi's ascension played out over and over, on a continuous loop, she let her gaze drift back to Jayden. Hesitantly, she reached for him, taking his hand. It was so very cold.[break][break]
"Does...does Chien-Pao call you anything? Did it...give you a title too?"
