Again and again, he finds his way back here. Uncertainty crawls under his skin, all the way from the rift’s entrance up to when they find themselves standing before the pulsating organ—washed in a magenta glow that makes his skin look washed out under the bright shade.[break][break]

Some of his typical laidback airs fade, but he does his best to not lose too much face around MATIAS SILPH.[break][break]

Even if, of the people he usually works with, he’s probably one of the few who has better insights to his vulnerabilities.[break][break]

repeated visits to ultra sea remind him of his time spent underneath rustboro defending hoenn from wave after wave of assaults from sea!hoenn. back then, he was restless, unable to sleep for a multitude of reasons. now, he appears rested.[break][break]

Lam’s brows furrow together as Matias offers to take on the burden himself. His mouth opens to protest, but there’s a sureness there that keeps him quiet.[break][break]

Mining is tedious, unfavorable work but he keeps at it–harvesting what they need to bring back to the surface, so to speak. He remembers how it felt the last time he was there, though. Even with the side effects weakened from being split between two people, the anxiety and paranoia linger in his memory.[break][break]

So he tosses a look back over his shoulder as he continues mining, hands moving with route memory. “How you holding up?”

“The hell is that?” he points at the bubblegum pink amalgamation that is hurtling toward the thin barrier. Right at them.[break][break]

It kind of looks like a pidove. But way, way. The blobby fingers that replace bird talons and the unnerving smile that somehow extends past its beak gives it away. “That’s real, right? I’m not imagining that?”[break][break]

A pokeball rolls into hand, a tap of the release sets a jolteon loose. Bowie waits for the monstrosity to clear the barrier before ruffling her fur and launching a series of PIN MISSILES at it. But more follow the first— a whole ass flock.

the PIN MISSILES slow it down but it's small enough to maneuver through the thick of it. it bobs, weaves, and swoops down only to meet a strong EARTH EDGE that explodes shortly after.[break][break]

It’s the only directive he really needs, allowing concentration to momentarily sweep over any duress he feels. His jolteon waits until the EARTH EDGE erupts to pull down a pulse of THUNDER overhead.[break][break]
“Yeah,” he exhales, nodding as he puffs out a heavy breath. “All good. You?”[break][break]
Bowie circles back to him, sparks still flying off of her coarse fur.[break][break]
“I think we’ve got everything. Maybe we shouldn’t stick around before we can’t get back with all of this.” And he definitely didn’t want to drop anything along the way. Nerves begin to creep under his skin again.[break][break]
Even if the weird little mime birds were sort of cute in an ugly way, they’re persistent. The flap of wings signals the risk of more.[break][break]
Or is that just his mind working against him?
