[attr="class","aurelie_lyrics"]With fantastic terrors never felt before
[attr="class","aurelie_body"]Despite there being far superior equipment available in the Rocket headquarters' laboratories, Aurelie found herself wishing she'd stayed at home in her own cozy workshop at home this evening. Her cozy, familiar, and above all, warm workshop. While the redhead remembered the Rocket sub feeling cramped and clammy inside, she hadn't expected the laboratory to feel so cold, to the point where she sometimes saw her own breath steaming in the air.

But Aurelie had been determined to study and analyze the fragments of black metal she'd recovered from the battle before the Ancient Tomb. When some fragments had fallen off the Zamazenta's shield, she'd grabbed some and given them to , but also quietly pocketed the rest. After seeing how those fragments resembled the indestructible carapace that armored the Rocket Beast, she just had to learn more.

She clasped her hands together to still their shivering and blew on her fingers to warm them up, before approaching the mass spectrometer. This baby must have cost Rocket a pretty PD or two, Aurelie marveled, regarding the large, complex apparatus admiringly. Hopefully, the mass spectrometer would let her better identify the unknown substance of the black fragments, or at least study their molecular structure and chemical properties in more detail.

Though it would help if the lab didn't feel so unbelievably cold right now! Aurelie could see her breath again, and a chill that had nothing to do with the ambient temperature ran down her spine when she thought she saw the steam swirling in eerie, peculiar shapes before puffing away.

And what was that continual knocking noise outside the door? Was someone banging on the walls of the hallway? Could there be someone else running an experiment at 11:30 PM at night?

Or—Aurelie shuddered to think about it—was the submarine finally about to implode, overwhelmed by the pressures of the sea?

The tapping noise came again, louder and more insistent this time. I can't think like this! Aurelie thought furiously, clutching her head in her hands. Whirling around, she stalked toward the door to the laboratory, deciding to find out once and for all what was causing that frustrating noise.

Hugging her arms around herself, she reached out to jerk the door open. "Hello? Who the hell is..." Her voice petered out as she peered past the door into the hallway outside.

Darkness there, and nothing more.

"...out there?" Aurelie finished, her sharp tone sinking into a hesitant whisper.

Dwayne had been thankful for everything Team Rocket had done for him so far, but how he had to pay back that thanks was not always to his liking. Dealing and making narcotics was an expected duty that was often placed upon him, but being a night guard on the sub? It just did not vibe with Dwayne at all. Night time was for sleeping, the last thing he wanted to do was patrol this dreary sub all night long. Every hall seemed colder than the last, made him miss the warm embrace of his blankets at home.

The chill seemed to reach its peak when he came upon the Laboratory wing of the sub. It was so cold that his breath was starting to manifest through his mask. Could they not afford to install a heater? He was about ready to skip this section entirely, no one can even access the labs besides Rocket personnel.

Dwayne turned to leave, but only got one step in when he heard a loud banging from deep within the hallway. He turned back, his flashlight barely piercing through the dark corridor before him. He turned away again, it was probably just someone working late. However he would not get far before the banging occurred again, this time twice as loud and clearly malicious. Dwayne arched his brows, what could be causing such a racket. He sighed heavily, as finding out was unfortunately his job tonight.

He reluctantly started down the hallway, just as a third bang echoed through the hall...

[attr="class","aurelie_lyrics"]With fantastic terrors never felt before
[attr="class","aurelie_body"]Frowning in puzzlement at the empty hallway, Aurelie grunted in annoyance and turned around on her heel, retreating a few steps back into the lab. A big part of her felt thwarted by not finding anything or anyone at fault for her discomfort and distraction—certainly nothing she could take out her frustration on with some satisfying glaring and yelling. Even Aurelie had enough dignity to not start shouting at vacant darkness.

But then she stood up straight and her brows drew together when she heard the banging start up again. Boom! Boom! Bang! But this time, to her surprise, the too-familiar noise was accompanied by a softer, more rhythmic tapping sound.

Spooked, Aurelie strained her ears to hear. Under the banging, the tapping became gradually louder and clearer, sounding more like...footsteps? Light ones, but crisp. Not someone trying to hide, but definitely not in a rush either. Just walking along.

Aurelie gritted her teeth. Was there somewhere else in the laboratory or the hallway outside after all, playing games? This time, she made sure to grab a flashlight lying on a nearby worktable before turning around and marching back toward the doors.

"Who's there?" the red-haired smith snapped as she pushed out the doors and back into the hallway, still as dark and forbidding as ever. She clicked on her flashlight and pointed it toward the far end of the hallway, shining it directly at the source of the footsteps.

The light trembled in her hands as she shivered in another blast of chill air and then suddenly flickered out, casting a brief shadow on the wall before restoring the darkness. Aurelie gasped and then swore. "What the hell? Come on!" She stared at the flashlight and smacked at it with the heel of her hand, before looking back down the hallway.

Another beam of light was approaching along with the footsteps. She squinted curiously at what looked like a humanoid figure carrying the light and quickly tried her own flashlight again. This time, though the glow flicked and wavered erratically like a guttering candle, Aurelie could see what looked like a young man—it really is a human, thank Arceus, she thought relief—wearing a mask over the lower half of his face.

Aurelie's single eye widened and then narrowed as she stared at the approaching man. Drawing a sharp breath, she suddenly found her voice and snapped at him, "Are you the one making that infernal racket? What the hell are you doing here? Don't tell me you're just sneaking around the labs at night thumping all the walls for fun or something!"
