Every match at this late hour was potentially Shalin's last, registration having been closed after she had finished her match with priam conrad . If she wanted to pad her score, she had to keep winning until she won her flight. A loss meant her score would freeze where it was at.

"Oh, Seb! Great to run into you again!" Shalin waved to her next opponent, her saddled Beedrill likewise greeting him. "I'm gonna need a day off or two to recover, but we should do something together after the tournament. You've been great to talk to and bounce ideas off all weekend."

Seb grumbled a little at the warm greet, shoulders hunching as he kept his hands placed firmly in his pockets. A dust of red was on his cheeks, but he very adamantly looked away from Shalin. Seb didn't take positivity very well.[break][break]

"You, too." He finally muttered out, forcing himself to relax before he whistled out for Alpha.[break][break]

The massive Talonflame, free from his saddle for the time being, landed between the two of them.[break][break]

Phew, tough crowd. All business and no fun. If that's how Seb wanted to play it, that's how Shalin would play it, too. Plus, she needed to focus really hard. She could pad her score as long as she kept winning. One loss, though, and she was done.

Playing into the aerial racer's nature. Queen Zing's wings would start out fast and deafening, building up the wasp's speed by blowing an intense TAILWIND behind her. Alpha would need to stay out of her take, or the air currents from her wings might make conditions too turbulent for the Talonflame to fly in!

It looked like Shalin and him had the same idea on how to start this. As the Beedrill started up her Tailwind, so did Alpha. The Tailwind of his own kicked up behind him, lifting under his wings and making it easier for him to charge forward at the other pokemon.[break][break]

Seb glanced between Alpha and Shalin, chewing on his lower lip in some type of deep thought.[break][break]

"Do you want to get a drink after this?"[break][break]

He winces. It sounds awkward and stilted to his own ears, so god knows what it sounded like to Shalin. She probably thought he was trying to ask her out or some shit.

The two moves, while the same, were executed in vastly different ways. Ultimately, the strength of Alpha's wingbeats would overcome the frequency of the wasp's, throwing Shalin's Pokémon almost all the way to the ground and leaving her quite vulnerable to the Talonflame's follow-up attack.

Seb's comment would go unheard amidst the loud buzzing noise that may have prompted him to put earbuds in. The noise made Shalin wear hers.

The Beedrill was in a vulnerable position, but had to get on the offensive. Soaring upward, the green insect would raise her foreleg stings, looking to POISON JAB the firebird from beneath.

There was some relief when Shalin didn't reply but also some disappointment. It was for the best, in the end, though; didn't want to make too much of a fool of himself.[break][break]

The beating of the wings was driving him insane, though, so he could understand it. It made him pull out his flying aids to pop in his ears. It wasn't meant for this kind of noise but it would certainly help.[break][break]

The Poison Jab came right at Alpha, but instead of bowing out the Talonflame charged right for it. Actually, he Flame Charged right for it, body erupting into fire to meet the strike.

The exchange of blows was brutal, Queen Zing's body alight. With how fast she was flying and Alpha's trajectory, Shalin could only assume her Pokémon's Poison Jab was just as effective. With the blaze spreading to her wings, though, the Captain had to make her move now. She raised her right hand to point the light of her circlet's MEGA EVOLUTION toward Queen Zing, putting out the blaze and rejuvenating her.

If the noise from her wings vibrating wasn't loud before, it was downright deafening now. Though she sported four foreleg stings instead of two now, she wouldn't put them to use yet; instead, she raised her frightening rear end toward the Talonflame, extending her FELL STINGER and attempting to stab the bird anywhere she could.

Pursing his lips, Seb watched as the Beedrill Mega Evolved. It was a rarely seen technique in his line of work. Only a select few pokemon with the capability were viable for fast flying or Pokemon races in general. The ones he saw were far and few between; all that to say that Beedrill was a new one for him.[break][break]

"Don't back down." Was ordered to Alpha, though he didn't know if his pokemon could hear it over the wing beats.[break][break]

Regardless, Alpha wasn't going to lay down and lose. He dipped and darted with an Acrobatics, trying to keep the other pokemon from hitting him.

The saddled Mega Beedrill may have been a fascinating sight for Seb to see. Extreme agility meant they could zip around curves, the bottleneck shifting to the rider's strength. Between gut-wrenching turns and the constant vibration, one had to be brave to sit between the wings of a Beedrill.

The display of ACROBATICS left a hole in Queen Zing's hard carapace from a nasty talon blow. The wasp's compound eyes flickered rapidly. Not holding anything back anymore, all four of her stings glowed purple with energy from the somewhat nearby Dragon's Den. She thrust them toward Alpha, trying to pound him into the ground with four DRAGON HAMMERS.

Alpha was strong and fast but rather fragile. He would need to do everything in his power to keep from getting hit with such a strong move or he would drop like a sack of bricks.[break][break]

He picked up a Quick Attack, trying to dart just out of reach and slap the Beedrill back- even if it was just chip damage, it would add up over time.

A QUICK ATTACK too fast for Queen Zing to follow ended Shalin's tournament run. With registration closed, she checked the standings. ollie morales had bumped her off the podium and into fourth place. Still quite the performance for a Ranger and not a Gym grinder. She was happy with her result, and would take home quite the paycheck.

"Good match!" she chirped, recalling the Beedrill. "I couldn't help but notice you had your eyes on Queen Zing's saddle. Are you a Pokémon rider, too? We might have to get to know each other better!" With her being out of the tournament now, she would sit down next to Seb if he wanted and spend some time with him.
