theo had been one of a handful of rocket’s upper brass to seek out the effects of darkrai’s mist – something that had surprised her then, but not now. this was more than a device for training, and more than a fucked up invention for intel.[break][break]

when they awake, they're met with an ashen scent mixed with the saltiness of the ocean, the volcano that looms behind them is not mount chimney, but cinnabar, his home.

more so recently as the call for arms grow louder.

behind them, thralls of rocket forces swarm the island, flooding in from the seas and the skies.

here in this dream, they are not observers, but participants of the invasion he was never a part of. his hand is forced, and he knows the only way forward is to comply.

so, he joins in, charging with faceless comrades to storm the small town of cinnabar, and for the most part, that's all the dream is: fighting, violence, and bloodshed; the perils of war.

but when they get to one house in particular, the scene around them begins to fade.

"this is it."

his breaths are heavy. tired.

"the house i grew up in."

she went through the motions, and part of her wondered if there was some kind of truth in her presence there. if somewhere, in another universe beyond 820, it was all really happening, be it in a pocket universe as suggested by ameena abadi , or its own freely existing realm, somewhere beyond that liminal space between all moments of reality.[break][break]

wiping the blood of a dream on her pantleg, she paused and caught her breath too in front of the house – the one he’d grown up in, apparently.[break][break]
